I have just been looking through my mp3 collection, and realised just how many covers i have, of songs done by people you really would not expect.

For example...

Travis - Oops I did it again (britney spears song)
Shawn Mullins - 1999 (prince song)
Alanis Morrisette - King Of Pain (The police)
R.E.M. - The Pasenger (Iggy Pop)
R.E.M. - Wicked Game (Chris Issack)
Rolf Harris - I Touch Myself (Divynals ... yes it's scarey)

Also yesterday, i obtained the soundtrack to the I Am Sam film, which is alot of Beatles songs, covered by others.

So who do you have?

What is the weirdest combination of music/artist, you have in your collection?

Temple City Kazoo Orchestra

Miss you, Whole lotta love, and Theme from 2001

Tori Amos doing over the rainbow, but more strangely killing me softly and losing my religion

She does a great cover of Purple Rain, and a pretty good one of Strange Fruit. Once made a CD full of her covers for a friend - I remember Tiny Dancer and Enjoy the Silence.

I've got some great Glen Phillips (Toad the Wet Sprocket ex-lead) covers - Sir Duke (Stevie Wonder), Two-Headed Boy and both parts of King of Carrot Flowers (Neutral Milk Hotel), Between the Bars (Elliot Smith), She (Graham Parsons), and Jesse's Girl. And I've witnessed Toad doing Redemption Song (Marley), Back In Black (AC/DC), Over the Rainbow, and a loungy Jeremy (Pearl Jam).

Neil Finn (Crowded House lead singer) doing Billie Jean (Michael Jackson). Neil Finn & Eddie Vedder doing Split Enz covers. Crowded House doing Not Fade Away (Buddy Holly) and Irish Heartbeat (Van Morrison?).

Uncle Tupelo doing Color Me Impressed (Replacements).

Sparklehorse & Radiohead doing Wish You Were Here (Floyd).

A rather obvious one, Smashing Pumpkins covering Landslide remarkably well.

John Mayer doing a really clever interpretation of KidA on an acoustic guitar.

And maybe the best cover song of all, The Sundays doing Wild Horses (Stones).

That was a brilliant version :)

Just remembered another good one.... In Australia, there is a kid's band called The Wiggles (they are trying to break into the US but have not quite gotten there yet.... all you parents, watch for them :)) who did AC/DC's "its a long way, to the top if you wanna rock n'roll"

Of course I had forgotten about Cake's I will Survive (thanks Vasquez), and yes that worked very well :)

In my collection, I have a redition of Jim Croce's "Time in a bottle" by the Muppets.

Not in my collection, but only because I haven't found a copy of it:

A couple of years ago, an album was released that consisted of about twenty covers of "Stairway to Heaven."

The two artists that are tied for the weirdest version of Stairway to Heaven are Rolf Harris -- Of "Tie Me Kangroo Down" fame and <shudder><gasp> William Shatner! <gag><retch>

I've got Snoop Dogg's Gin and Juice done by either Ween or Phish depending on the day you download it, not sure who actually does it but it's an interesting take on Snoop.

Yup.

A tv personality in australia by the name of Andrew Denton used to have a variety show called "the Money Or The Gun"

He would always have a musical segment where the band had to play Stairway to Heaven.

He had Rolf, Elvis impersonators and many many others doing it.... all very funny.

That reminds me of the most senseless tribute album I can ever recall seeing. Bluegrass covers of Zeppelin. I suddenly wish I'd bought it.

Actually, I kind of like Rolf's version -- complete with didgeridoo (sp) accompaniment.

Tht other "artist" I mentioned however, butchered a good song -- like that's any surprise. ;)

The funniest cover I have is Hank William III doing "Gin and Juice". It's actually pretty good.

David Bowie & Marianne Faithful

singing Sonny & Cher's "I Got You Babe"

I am so glad that someone has brought this one up...it's just an awesome fucking song
But I'm a Revolting Cocks fan anyway.

Def Leppard has done a simply awesome version of Ziggy Stardust.

The really cool songs though are the ones people mix together.. like the version of "The Real Slim Shady" done to Spears "Oops I did it again"

I was wondering if someone was going to bring them up...I have their cd's after someone told me about them.

Hearing them do Blow in the wind is incredible.

Others would be Phish's cover of gin and juice, Elvis Costello doing a Maddonna song, and Goldfinger doing 99 luft balloons....

Some awesome stuff.

Silly me

Ducky my special one, I should of asked you!

But anyone....

I had a song, lost it during the usual hard drive problems.

I have searched etc.

It's by 'Utah Saints' I think it was called "Remember You."
I'll have to think, brain dead now!

I can find the info on albums, but no song to d/l.

It was special!
Does anyone know this one?
Does anyone have it?

Oh I would really, really love to have it again!

Please, pretty please anyone!

Rolf Harris? oh, the 3 legged man! I remember that one!
Now it is all Elvis 'cos of the anniversary!
