Isn't it strange the things that wind some people up? I just submitted my second story and again have had some really pleasing feedback. One email I got though was bizarre. Being a Brit, I say arse. To me, an ass is a donkey - an arse is a backside. Seems one person doesn't agree:

"Hey dim wit for the world readship the term is ass not arse used only
in very few places."

I am really amazed that someone could be so annoyed and so rude over such a minor point! Anyone else have strange feedback along those lines?!

I wouldn't say this is weird. I'd say this guy was just being a chauvanistic arsehole ;)

:D

I did think it was a shame he posted as anonymous I or would have taken great pleasure in calling him an arse!

Hi DiBosco!

I remember your first story and enjoyed it! It's great that you have a new one out.

Do you have a link to the second story?? Of course, I could get off my arse and go find it, but it would be great to have a link and encourage more people to go read...;)

janiexx:)

Ah yes, I forget that sometimes too. We should all bow down before the mighty American customs, as they are obviously so much more superior to ours.

Gotta love dumb-arse feedback, haven't you? What a wanker.

The US does not have the world monopoly of assholes; the UK does not have the monopoly of arseholes.

Unfortunately ass/arseholes are found in every country.

Og

I had someone say they couldn't understand my stories. He asked, "What does the word "crotch" mean?"

Most of my feedback is from women readers and I've never gotten a hostile letter. yet. A few nasty cracks have been posted on the AH, but that's different.

The letters from men are usually creepy. They fall somewhere between, "Boy, I wish I could find a girl like that" and, "How much of that story was real?"

If I can keep men like that at their computers and off the street, I feel like I have done my part.

I have the arsehole/asshole problem a lot. Which is why I prefer to use "poo-tubes" in my stories.

I am so English in my way of writing that I don't believe I've ever been taken to task for one particular English word.

I will sometimes type ass, but nowadays if I edit over, I'll stick my arse in instead *aherm* for continuity :)

I would assume that the majority of readership on Literotica is American, although I may be wrong. And, unfortunately, with American education being what it is, quite a few do not understand the subtle differences between American and British spelling. Pretty sad, really.

The English language, being one of the most convoluted in the world, is subject to all manner of interpretation and miscommunication. Even I don't grasp all the subtleties of slang, and I've got a degree in English. But I do at least understand that there are different spellings, and different phrases, for the same word or idea. Perhaps the commenter on your story does not.

Or, of course, it could simply have been a malicious troll comment. We get those, now and then, you know . . . .

Oh, how boring would that be? I enjoy reading stories that have the flavor of a country other than my own due to word choice, phrases, etc. I like that I can tell someone is writing from another country that way. Personal choice though, I suppose. I do find the word wank rather distracting. I assume others don't.

I read the comment that way at first, that the person didn't understand that arse was the equivalent of ass. However, I think he/she did. I think they were being difficult and saying that we should all use ass because it's more commonly used around the world. I could understand someone being ignorant and thinking the first (though not phrasing it in such a way) but I cannot stand people who want us to conform to one way of writing/thinking.

Agreed. He most definitely understood what it means as he said the world readship (sic) term is ass not arse.

I don't think the majority of Lit's membership IS from the US, I think the Canadians, Brits, and Australians together have us outnumbered. :p It's probably very close if considered solely according to nationality, but I think the arrogant, parochial, chauvinsitc "Ugly Americans" like the anonymous dimwit that prompted this thread are definitely outnumbered; They just make more noise than us reasonable, cosmopolitan types.

FWIW, We're only assuming the dimwit was "American" but I HAVE seen a similar sentiment expressed by an Aussie -- His "logic" being that American is the Lingua Franca of the internet and we are "guests" at an American based site.

This is definitely a U.S. site, otherwise you'd see a lot more 16-year-olds in the stories here. Also all the "Free Speech" hair-trigger threads are very American.

Also you see one or two people here who are evidently escaping a kind of narrow-minded prudishness that's not really prevalent (any longer) in Britain, but is still common in the smaller towns of the U.S. I get the feeling that Laurel and Manu started this site partly as a reaction to the American Moral Right, and that a lot of people here are grateful for a place like this.
