Greetings,

I was about to post another story in my ongoing exercise in Lit literary futility. This one "Prejudicial Act" is in Non-Erotic so FUTILITY should be in all caps. To my surprise, not to mention befuddlement, the submission screen was changed. Ten blank spaces for "Story Tags" have appeared.

I'm probably the last person at Lit to notice this. But I'm passing it on FYI. IMHO, this is a goodness.

Checking a handy FAQ, revealed the following info:

[q]What do I put in the "Story Tags" field?

The "Story Tags" field on the submission page is the place where you enter keywords or keyphrases that will help readers find your submission. It is a very important part of your submission, please don't ignore it.

Literotica has published over 50,000 stories to date, so making sure that you have the right Story Tags will help ensure that interested readers are able to find your story. The more specific you can be with your Story Tags, the better - "short blonde lesbian" is a better Story Tag than "lesbian". "Black girls kissing" is better than "girls kissing". If your Story Tags are too generic, your story will stand out less from the crowd and may get less readers than it would with good specific Story Tags.

You do not have to enter all 10 Story Tags for every submission, but the more you add, the better chance your story will find interested readers.[/q]

Wow, that's really new. I just submitted one Tuesday, and that wasn't there then.

Neato.

I have always pretty much ignored the whole "keyword" thing. I am wondering if perhaps I should go back and revisit the idea.

I could submit an "edited" version of my existing stories by using the Notes section to tell Laurel what I was about, yes? I already want to tighten up and make some changes in my story "The Interrogation" and perhaps I can use this at the same time...

Belegon..you might as well do :)

Rumple..hmm I'm sure there was a question about the term "phrases" specified a few days ago, someone wondering how long a phrase could be. I noticed the new boxy things earlier in the week but though it was probably old news so didn't mention it. *L*

They're kinda funky though those little boxes :)

EL,

I've got no idea how the search end of the deal will work and I wish Manu and Laurel would include a list of possible tags to help with consistency. But as I said, IMHO, this is a goodness.

ps: Like the new AV. It's down-right modernistical looking. :)

Belegon,

If you do check with Laurel, let me/us know if we can "retro-fit" tags onto existing stories. If so, that might get old ones a few extra looks.

I just finished posting my story. Neither the description field nor the new Story Tags show up on the preview page.

Rumple..thanks love..Dar created it for me :)

Well I think you want specifics. Think about your story and what it contains then put phrasews in that match it but keep in mind popular search words. So if you're writing a schoolgirl dress up fantasy include "school girl uniform" both words work well individually and together. Well I guess thats kinda what you should do, think about what a reader would remember about a story to aid them looking it up again or words that will attract readers to your story in the firstplace.

I'm running with that, EL.

But what I was thinking about tended to be more prosaic. For instance, would it be worthwhile to include symbols such as: M/F, F/F, MM/F or, if it's the story of Belegon back in his single days, M/FFFFFFFFFFFF. If there's a suggested list at the search site similar to one at the posting site, it might increase usage.

That's just a "wouldn't it be nice" type idea.

Personally I'd say if you think it's something someone might search for then go for it. A list of commonly searched for words could help BUT you might end up like a commercial search enging then with people just puting in common words to get hits....might not improve a persons score, but it could get'em noticed :)
