Story submissions

Hello to all.

I have recently (about a week ago) uploaded my first story submission to the site, a sort of first chapter to an ongoing tale I will be writing.

I just wanted to ask if there was an average timescale for a story to go from being submitted, to going live on the site? And no, I'm not complaining about the fact mine isn't live yet, I'm just curious as to how long it normally takes.

It's currently pretty long. I've been seeing reports of 7-8 days even for established authors.

Over the years, it's varied anywhere from what we have now, all the way down to 2 days.

Since it's your first submission, I wouldn't worry until at least 9 days have passed since you submitted. Don't click the "pending" link, because if you do and save anything afterward, it will send your story to the back of the queue and you'll have to start your wait all over again.

The site is overwhelmed with new submissions right now, and there's only one person approving them all.

Thanks, I assumed it'd be a little while. I didn't realise that only one person has the job of approving them. I'll just wait and see I guess.

I'm on day six and debating what to do.

When I started lit was really solid with the 3 day time to the point I submitted everything on Tuesday knowing it would go up Friday or occasionally a Saturday.

Since the time started drifting to a longer period-and it has steadily risen over the last year- I have started doing Sunday night figuring even 6 days gets me a Saturday.

I also never submit a story during a contest unless its an entry figuring I am avoiding the extra long time, but that seems to no longer be a valid idea.

My thing is I have only had 2 stories post on a Sunday and both were badly lacking in votes views etc... compared to any other day

I am now wondering if I should click pending and deliberately put my story to the back of the list or cross my fingers it goes up Monday and not tomorrow.

It is what it is, but I'm sorry if I am under the feeling that 8+ days is getting to the point of being unacceptable.

My latest was 9 days.

That was my latest as well. The longest so far.

Contest stories go up overnight. I've had stories up in from 3 day to 6 days commonly. Three is the shortest, other than a contest story. 4-6 was the average for years. This 9 day thing is very recent.

Within the last few months, I had a 7 day, a 6 day, a 3 day and a 4 day. Inconsistent as of late. It looks like the number of submissions has gone up a lot. It sounds like many are getting rejected.

The last few months its been taking mine about 6 to 10 days.

That said I have no complaints about it, is what it is.

The first chapter of my first story on Lit was just posted a couple days ago. It took 8 days from the time I submitted to the time it was published.

I posted two stories last Friday and they were posted this morning (5 days).
