I've submitted stories here on Lit for several years now and when the database/server was upgraded a couple of years ago, stories were often posted in 24 hours, as opposed to a week. However, I submitted a story a few days ago and so far, it MIA.

How long does it take for posting now? And why the change?

Good question, huh?
Looks like nobody knows the answer though.

Gary,

Nothing's changed. The answer to your question is the same; it varies. Within the last two months I've had a story get posted in about a day and currently have one that, like yours, has been pending for several days.

Just a quick update and a little shameless self-promotion. My latest submission, a romance category story called, "Love on the Levee" www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=104055 was finally posted yesterday. It was possibly the longest wait I've ever experience at Lit, although many will no doubt argue that considering the quality of mw writing, the wait wasn't nearly long enough.

I've noticed that Laurel seems to try and limit new stories to about sixty a day. So maybe there was a recent flood of new submission. Limiting the number of new stories per day might mean some frustrating waits for writers but probably gives their stories a better chance of getting read.

Thanks RF,

I've since checked on it and had to edit out some errors on my part and my damn computer (have StarOffice instead of Word). It's going on 2 weeks now. But I'm kind of glad in a sense because I realized that I had screwed something up in my story and by having to edit it, I was able to correct the errors and proofread it a little better before re-submitting it to Lit.

Well, we'll see what happens this week a.k.a Week #2.

And btw :D , it's Guy not Gary.....LOL

I think Laurel should install an automatic reply, somewhat like a Holiday Message on an email program.

She could have a number of different messages, basically stating:

"Thanks for your submission.

Unless you hear differently, look for your story to appear online at Literotica.com in X days/weeks."

Laurel could change to a longer delay message when backed up, or to a shorter delay message, whenever she decides to give up trying to have a life.

That would cut out about one or two dozen repetitive threads a month.

So you're saying that this is a repetitive problem? That's weird, most of my other stories only took one to two days to post. I thought Laurel had a tribe of editors on the website who proofread the submitted stories prior to their posting? You know, some fellow members who were giving Laurel a hand with this.

Where have I heard that before?

Dear GJD,
Yes, we've heard that question before. Believe me, the replies you've received have been very polite and helpful. Others who asked that question have been treated somewhat rudely. I guess we have run out of smart ass replies to the "How long does it take.......?" question.

Pps. I notice your AV states that you're "Simply the best." I've often wondered about that, and now I know. Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge, Laurel has not allowed herself to be cloned, and is still reading  all the submissions personally. She reads them to check that they comply with the site's regulations.

If that were me, you could expect to see your story online, some time in Novenber, 2006.

FYI: YOU are the proofreader, or else the big dumby with a badly spelled story online.

Guy,

It's not a repetitive problem so much as a repetititive question. However, it's usually asked by newbies who are anxious to see their first story. That's understandable, but it gets old. Probably the reason your initial question wasn't answered any sooner was because folks assumed it had been asked by a newbie. I gave you my two cents worth after noticing you were an "old hand".

As I mentioned in that first reply, apparently Laurel got swamped with submissions. Since she checks them all herself and since she seems to try and limit the new posts to a reasonable number (which IMHO benefits the writer), sometimes the wait will be short and sometimes, like last week, it will be longer-kinda like other things in life.

Thank you all for your respectable replies and assistances. I've since checked the list this morning and learned that , after a little over a week, the story is now posted on the site. [WHEEEEW!!!]

According to your reason Quasi, we can't help but respect Laurel for what she does. My stories are on a few other websites (Lit always being the 1st to receive them) and one of the websites have had some totally crappy stories posted and I couldn't understand how the webmaster allowed it to be posted. And you're right about the proofreading. After reviewing the story online, I realized that I somehow overlooked something and screwed up a word..... DAMN IT!!! LOL
