Story Still in Pending — Was Re-submitting a Mistake? Need Guidance from Fellow Authors

Hi everyone,

I’m a new author on LIT and could use some guidance.

I submitted a story on 23-06-2025, and as of today (06-07-2025), it’s still showing as "pending." Since I wasn’t sure if it was stuck or missed, I submitted the same story again—just with a slightly altered title spelling.

Now I see that both versions are in pending, and I’m wondering if re-submitting like that was a mistake.

Should I have just waited? Is it normal for stories to take this long for approval? I really don’t want to break any rules—I’m still figuring things out.

Any advice would be appreciated 🙏

I have a story I submitted on 6/19/25, and still waiting. I assume it has to do with the Nude Day contest submissions.

You probably don't want two pending stories with the same body text. I'd delete the older submission at this point.

As for the wait you've experienced, it does seem long, but there is a contest happening that's probably being prioritized over new author entries. And as you've maybe read elsewhere on the forum, once you submit, don't edit the entry any further. It will reset the review of your story and drop it to the bottom of the queue.

Best of luck. I know patience can be hard to stomach.

If both stories are still in pending, what you have is two stories in pending, not one resubmitted story. You would probably do better to move the second version to "drafts".

Some things that are unfortunate but still fact.

When you submit a story for publication, it goes to the bottom of the queue of stories. If there are 200 stories in the queue, your story becomes number 201.

When you resubmit a story it automatically goes to the bottom of the queue of stories.

Stories for contests are usually time limited and therefore have priority over normal submissions. Right now, the Nude Day contest has just wrapped up so some might have experienced a delay.

Laurel gets to take a holiday once in a while, just like you do. We've just celebrated the 4th of July.

I don't know how many stories you've submitted, but I think new authors get an extra look to make sure they're following the submission rules.

Which version did you delete?

If the newer one, then it means you still have the old one which sat for a few weeks in the queue. If you don’t see it move by like, Tuesday, drop Laurel a DM (through the messaging feature of this forum) with a polite question about it.

But if you deleted the older one, then you effectively made a brand new submission that’s now at the bottom of the queue. All you can do at that point is wait.

Yes, it was. You now have two versions of the same story, with different titles. Until the status changes to New, no-one has looked at either one yet. I'd pull back the first one to Draft, then delete it.

Don't touch the other one. You've reset your clock and started all over again, you're at the end of the queue.

For a newbie, yes, that timeframe is typical. New writer get more scrutiny for content compliance, and depending on category, you can expect to wait at least a week or so. Also, there's been a Contest running - those stories get priority.

Once you get a few stories under your belt, and don't push the line on the content rules, it does get quicker. My last story went live in 48 hours, the one before that, a day. But then I've been around for a long time, so my track record is good
Any advice would be appreciated 🙏
Patience, grasshopper :).

I moved my new submission to draft

I’d delete the newer one.

The older one has a better position in the queue.
That's fair, but my logic was that perhaps the first one got "glitched" somehow, which could explain why it lingered so long in the queue. But the new one, on the other hand, might pass review in the typical amount of time.
