When I did my Statistical Analysis of Stand-Alone LitE Stories, there was one data slice I didn't do - by day of week. Using 7-8 weeks worth of data, here is the stats for stand-alone stories for day of the week it was published on:

8Letters, are the story count numbers averages or totals over the 7-8 weeks that you tallied the data? That would make a big difference for the analysis unless all day of the week numbers are for exactly the same number of weeks.

The inverse relationship between 1) number of stories published (per day) and 2) views/favorites/comments makes sense.

The F-K grade stats are weird.

Thanks for doing this!

Totals. The number of each day:
Sunday - 8 (9/9/18 to 10/28/18)
Monday - 8 (9/10/18 to 10/29/18)
Tuesday - 7 (Missed 10/2/18)
Wednesday - 8
Thursday - 7 (Missed 10/4/18)
Friday - 8
Saturday - 8

The F-K grade stats are weird.
The problem with the F-K stats is I think they are artificially pulled down by dialogue, so a lower F-K score is probably a sign of more dialogue.

Thanks for doing this!
You're welcome.

I submitted a story yesterday, and that made me wonder what day of the week is best to have a story published on.

So based on this, you get a story published on Monday, you get a slightly different response pattern. Only problem is, you have no real control over the posting day, because Laurel runs the queue. If, based on this, everyone decides to submit on Friday, punting on a three day post cycle, Laurel's only going to spread them out. Fun data, but of little practical use, really - and for me, it's all yesterday anyway :).

I've been putting in my requested publication date in the Notes box from quite a while now. Laurel has honored every request.

Ah, that's a cunning ploy, but it won't work if everyone does it, now that you've said it works. Laurel still runs the queue. If she gets a surge on one day, isn't she just going to spread it out?

Mind you, not needing to jockey for position in the highest turn-over category, it means nothing to me. I still have two of the 750 Word event stories on my category front page, and the first one is still eighth from the bottom, after a week.

Curiosity question - what are your stats on how long your stories stay on the I&T hub? A couple of days?

Looking at the responses to this thread, only you, SimonDoom and me may know about this. And I publish so rarely that I'm not going to cause any problems.

My breakthrough story Cycling Weekends with Sis stayed as the first story on the I/T hub for I think three days over Labor Day weekend. The number of views and comments blew my mind.

For the rest of my stories, I only pay attention to where the story is on the day it's published. I have no idea how long they stay on the I&T hub. Probably two to four days.

I submitted a story yesterday, and that made me wonder what day of the week is best to have a story published on.

I had the same thought/question when I submitted my most resent story. Based on this, I don't think I'll worry (wonder) about it in the future. Thanks for doing the math and posting this ;)

Thanks for the stats.

If I haven't posted a story in a while, I've always noticed a small uptick on Sunday's.

My experience is that roughly 10 to 20 incest stories are published a day, so since the incest hub page lists only 25 stories they typically fall off no later than the third day, and sometimes they drop off on the second. It makes a big difference to the number of views. Being on the hub is no guarantee of views, however. I'm struck by how huge the discrepancy in views can be for one I/T story versus another. I submitted 2 I/T stories to the 750 word event. Both were near the top of the hub list and published on the same day, but one has over 48,000 views and the other (lower rated, admittedly, but neither has a red "H") has 15,000. That seems weird to me.

Totals. The number of each day:
Sunday - 8 (9/9/18 to 10/28/18)
Monday - 8 (9/10/18 to 10/29/18)
Tuesday - 7 (Missed 10/2/18)
Wednesday - 8
Thursday - 7 (Missed 10/4/18)
Friday - 8
Saturday - 8

.

OK. So if I understand this correctly, since the Tuesday and Thursday totals cover only 7 days, this means that from Tuesday through Friday roughly 40-46 standalone stories are published each day, while on Monday it's only 14 stories per day. So there's a big advantage to having your story published on Monday since it will have less competition, although there may be an advantage having it published on Saturday IF it will make a difference to it being on the Hub longer. But my experience is that the first day is the all important one. Once a story establishes a pattern of views that pattern tends to persist. I have a pretty good idea now how my story will do in terms of reads based on the first day.

I suspect you are correct that even if we broadcast and discuss this data very few people will act on it. But I'm glad to know this.

That's correct. In terms of average number of stories (both stand alone and chapter) published a day, it's:
Sunday - 56
Monday - 39
Tuesday - 100
Wednesday - 100
Thursday - 99
Friday - 101
Saturday - 86

That's what I figured, without looking closely.

Is the 48k views higher up the page? That is, folk devoured the first one like penguins eat fish, but by the time they got to the second one, their little squinty eyes are narrowing and their brains are ticking over, thinking, "Wait, another fish from SimonDoom... the last one stuck in my throat, I won't read this one."

No buzz defining the relationship in the title or description line. The one with the higher views says it's bro-sis. If the other had mentioned that her biggest fan was dad, it would have attracted more attention.

Of course, doing that would have nixed the whole crux of the narrative, but that is a big part of why, IMO.

I think you hit the nail on the head.

And that underscores something I've argued before, which is that one's choice of tagline and title makes a big difference.

The lower score probably also made a difference, and a different tagline would not necessarily have remedied that problem.

Agree. Even if I pay no attention to any of that, my titles being what I want them to be, and not a movie poster for The Penguin Hunters.

The thing is, don't write incest, and you don't have these attention getting problems :).
