Hi Guys,
I recently submitted a story, only to have it sent back because of suspicion of AI-generated content. The story is my own work, and whoever made that decision is wrong. Who should I contact about this?

Little envelope up in the top right of the screen by your user name.
Address your concerns to Laurel. She's the site moderator. Being polite goes a long way. :)

If you have copies of drafts that can show the progression of the work and potentially any verions that contain worl from someone in the volunteer editor program those can be helpful when reaching out to Laurel.

If you used something like Grammarly to rewrite your sentences you can get popped for using AI. Many grammar tools are using AI these days.

Resubmit the story and put your statement about it not being AI into the "comments" field for the editor.

This is a second step you can take in addition to PMing Laurel, and maybe even the more important one.

"Rewrite your sentences" is the key phrase here. tools like Grammarly a are fine for GRAMMAR, commas, spelling and stuff like that.

Thanks for all the replies. I do use Grammarly but thought it was an author's software for better editing.

You can use Grammerly, but it is for business despite having a fiction setting. So you can't wholesale accept it, especially not if it changes the order of your words.

The thing about business writing versus fiction writing: Business is all about sharing information in the clearest possible way. Fiction is about using words to give your reader an experience.

Asking software to choose the words for you means less of an experience and more information sharing.

Wasn't that implied in what I said, or did I need to be more businesslike in my explanation? :nana: :p

I've had managers use the fiction setting when revising my estimates to send up the chain. That's why I always keep a copy of the original so when it blows up in their face, I have deniability. :)

People keep version controlled copies of drafts? Really?
I sort of do.

I will send unfinished versions of my stories to select beta readers who will send me thoughts. Additionally I use two editors, one for grammer one for content, so I have their redlines as well. So sitting in my chapter arvhive I may have between 1-3 drafts.

Additionally I think (but am not sure) that Google Docs keeps records of drafts that you can revert too. Maybe it ia just keeping a record of saves. Not sure aince I don't use that program.

I'm impressed! I write on my PC using an open source version of office. I don't have any previous versions saved, but I've never been flagged as AI. I'm not even sure how those programs work that detect AI, but I am glad they exist. I'm not a good writer, but I devote a lot of time to my work, and I'm proud of that.

If you don't mind, could you post the first 2 paragraphs of your writing?

Maybe I (or anyone else here) could give some thoughts.

I am so glad that my rancid writing is so bad, that its not Ai like!

Sure. Here it is.

I woke up surprisingly early that morning, anxious about my plans for the future. Today was the day I’d start my new career. My dad was an importer and wholesaler of specialty products with branch offices throughout several states, and I planned to follow in his footsteps. While most of my friends had spent years preparing for college, I’d spent years studying Dad’s business model and even making suggestions on increasing revenue and lowering operating costs. It had been a week since high school graduation, and while most of my friends were thinking about college, I was thinking about starting my career as assistant vice president of Davenport Importers, Inc.

I stared at my reflection in my bathroom mirror as I brushed my long brown hair, realizing again how it was lightening with each passing day. I wondered how I would look with it cut short to reflect my new image of a businesswoman, but then I thought, nah, I’d probably hate it.

I made my way down the stairs, craving my morning cup of coffee and anxious about my first day of work. But as I approached the kitchen, I heard something that had become all too familiar recently—my parents were arguing.
