I've been trying to find a story that I've enjoyed, but can't remember the title or the author.

All that I can remember is that the hero is in some sort of a fake jail at a country fair, and it turns out that his wife's lover has been giving a kid money to buy tickets to keep the hero in "jail", so that the lovers can get away.
