Is there any way to look at your total score vote by vote? Is there a list anywhere that says

4
5
4
1
3
5

etc., so you can look at them overall? I'm just curious because (well, partly because I'm a little compulsive about these things) you could have two votes and total score of 4.0 but it could be the result of two votes of 4 or one 3 and one 5. Blah blah blah, I shouldn't drink vodka at the computer. Anyway, thanks for any info you might have!

Easy for your pain pills to say! :D My vodka really really wants to know! Although, my vodka is also starting to feel like maybe we should just go have a little lay down...

Hi logophile,

Does the "obsession (bordering on psychosis)" carry over to numbers? ;) Just kidding. I don't think there is any way to look at your score vote by vote. But, some of the really bright people here can tell you all the possible combinations of votes that could equal your score. I can't...the Asian Math Gene skipped me. ;)

Luck to you,

Yui

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it does... ;)

logophile,
According to Gregory's Girl 1981 directed by Bill Forsyth that kind of obsession should make you a boy!

Yui,
I never heard about Asian Math Jeans, but I flunked my only chance to fill out a Mermaid Algae Bra. :(

No -- at least not for the authors; Laurel and Manu can (and do) review the individual votes to remove duplicates and other fraudulent votes.

If you are obsessive enough check your scores often enough to track the changes each individual votes make in the score, it's fairly simple to compute what each vote was -- (new score * New Vote total) - (old score * old vote total) = sum of votes cast.

The management might have some way to track votes but I don't know of any. The only thing I could say is, once your story has posted, constantly check on the vote total and the average. You can determine what a new vote is as follows:

Say the first vote is a 4. the next time you look, there are two votes and the average is 4.5. You know the second vote was a 5 because:

4 X 1 = 4
4.5 X 2 = 9, a difference of 5 so you know the second vote was a 5.

After three votes, the average is 4.33. You know the third vote was a 4 because:

4.5 X 2 = 9
4.33 X 3 = 13, a difference of 4 so you know the third vote was was a 4.

After four votes, the average is 4.25. You know the fourth vote was a 4 because:

4.33 X 3 = 13
4.25 X 4 = 17, a difference of 4 so you know the fourth vote was a 4.

After five votes, the average is 3.60. You know some troll on-bombed you because:

4.25 X 4 = 17
3.60 X 5 = 18, a difference of 1 so you know the troll has struck.

After seven votes the average is 3.85
3.60 X 5 = 18
3.85 X 7 = 26.95, which rounds off to 29. You know you have received a 4 and a 5 because that's the only possible combination that can produce that result. If the average after seven votes had been 3.71:

3.71 X 7 = 25.97, a difference of 8 and you can't really tell whether it is a 5 and a 3 or two people each voting a 4. I think it's worth noting how a single one-bomb can screw up your average.

Actually, I don't think anybody can keep track of the voting pattern early like I have been demonstrating because the votes come in so fast, sometimes two or three almost simultaneously, and you can't really track them. After a few days, however, they come in slower and you can do this with the bigger numbers like so:

4.40 X 60 = 264
4.34 X 61 = 264.74 so you know you have been one-bombed again. Personally, I don't think it's worthwhile keeping track this closely and I don't except I have sometimes during a contest.

No, not a boy. But I am a Scorpio. We're often accused of wishing we were men. Hmm... We're also accused of being a little compulsive. I wonder why...

Thanks Boxlicker for the formulas. I was just feeling I'd like to take a look and see if there's an overall voting. There's no way I could do all that though. My head would explode (and not in a good way - wait, is there a good way for your head to explode?).

If you're anything like me, it's already gone forever! I'm serious... if it wasn't for baking I wouldn't even know how to do fractions.

We all need a mini-Lauren implant for our brains. She is a whizz with this stuff. I always lose track after about 20 votes.

Lou

Okay, here's a challenge for Bionic Lauren Brain: My story hit 4.85 last night with 59 votes.... and then the 60th vote sent it down to 4.83. Was I 1-bombed? do I need to PM Laurel again? Somebody help a poor li'l math-challenged farm boy!

Oh you are so in trouble now boy! LOL SHE HAS CHARTS!

My lil brain is hurtin but I think its:

4.85 X 59 =
4.83 X 60 =
Difference =

I tink thats how ya do it.

Hey, check out my Christmas present to you in the "If you were Santa" thread. :p

I thought I was weird in figuring out how many farts it would take to equal the energy of an atomic bomb, but you guys take the cake.

You must think your stories are being evaluated by Lionel fucking Trilling or something.
