Well it has happened again. I have had a story rejected for no good reason.
below is what they told me.

Dear Writer,

Thank you for your submission to Literotica. We appreciate the time and effort you've taken to write a story and submit it to our site. However, we've found that we cannot post your submission in its current form. The checklist below may help you in re-examining your manuscript.

Did I check to make sure everything was spelled correctly?
Was there an underage (under 18 years old) sexual relationship in my story?
Please feel free to re-submit the story after a Volunteer Editor has examined it, or after you've made revisions. You can find a list of Volunteer Editors here.

Please consult our Writer's Resources section and make sure you read our submission guidelines:

If you have any questions on these, please let us know.

Thanks for your time, and look forward to reading you again!

I would be pleased if somebody might look at the story and let me know if they think it violates any of the site rules. Post here or send a pm and I will forward the story.

You have all the stuff about puberty, before and after, but in a quick skim I saw nothing about the actual age of the character. puberty is around 13 and that is a no-no. The characters have to be 18 and stated as such.

First, when the site owners indicate they don't want your story in the story file--in this case for under-eighteen sex, they don't want it in full text on their forum, either. It's no less published here than it is in the story file. They have this rule to keep the cops from nosing around and following up on where all these accounts lead and making watch lists (duh).

Second, agree with TxRad, that this is being interpreted as underage (puberty normally sets in a long time before age eighteen does), and the story would have to be written to pass--this isn't just a case of resubmitting it as is and putting "checked and none of the above apply" in the notes box (which is what you'd do if you didn't think you had done anything of the things the story was rejected for).

Third, the story wouldn't have been rejected for the writing, I don't think--it's quite well written. I didn't finish it, but it's a good story, well written.

I tried

This is from the story. ". Loving his father, and yet well aware that if his father knew who he really was, it would break his heart. Now his father was gone... and with him, the biggest source of his shame! Twenty four years into his life, he was free of the burden of trying to live up to his father’s expectations."

I would think that since there is only one guy in the car and we know that he is over 24, and later all the sex happens inside a bar. A place which would not allow underage people.

I honestly never thought about it being rejected because of that reason. I thought that it was more over the religious overtones.

You are too far into the story before you note this and quite clearly masturbation happens in the story before age eighteen. You can get away with this in a mainstream novel, but places like this are watched like a hawk for it. The site owners have a zero "possibility" rule--for a good reason--and it's their site.

(I suggest you erase that story text, by the way.)

PM, not email, Laurel and ask her, she will be able to give you the precise reason for its rejection.

Also, if they've rejected it, why did you post it in the forums?

Wtf

I guess that I posted to the forum to see if the other authors agreed with the rejection. Do you think everyone should just roll over when told to?
That would come as a surprise to me. This forum is not the same as the story index. I wanted to make sure it was not one guy making the judgement. i don't think the story in is the wrong.

Well, for the protection of us all, I'd be happy to see someone tossed off the Web site who didn't roll over.

There's no difference in "published" between having the story in the story file and having it slapped on the forum. In that sense--the only sense that matters in this circumstance--they are exactly the same thing.

The Web site hasn't accepted the story. You're a good writer. Please don't be a jackass. Just delete the story from the forum, rewrite it to make him over eighteen before he does so much as masturbate, and submit it again.

It doesn't matter whether we agree or not. This isn't a democracy. It's a business. Laurel and Manu run it, they get to set the rules. They're the ones whose ass is on the line. If they want to reject your story for whatever reason, that's their right. You have no recourse. Luckily, they are very easy to work with.

I told you what to do, PM Laurel and ask her what the problem was. Edit your other post and remove your story. It's the polite thing to do.

Who cares if the authors agreed? What good will that do? As the guys already said, Laurel and Manu own and run the site and make the rules.

Seems quite simple to me. We are posting on their site -- for free. Change the story to fit their guidelines. Or go elsewhere.

The policy is simple. No sex between people under 18 published on the website, either by the editor on the main story index or by individuals in the forums. Sometimes they slip through cause no one's perfect, but they're yanked when caught.

If you have an under-18 character doing sexual things, or thinking sexual things, or recalling sexual things with any sort of graphic detail, it won't be published on the site. A graphic sexual thing that you might think should get a pass would be something like a description of pubic hair and how much fun it is to play with it. What you can do is refer to it in passing. Such as, the character lost his virginity at 14. Sexual things aren't just sex, they're also sensual things, like descriptions of the body, things the character might explore in an erotic manner.

Under-18 is verboten here. Why? Because that's the way they want it. It's their perogative. There are huge discussions on this in the Editor's forum if you'd like to get into it. Some think that Literotica should publish (and don't think it's anything but publication) any content the author wants published. After all, people under 18 have sex all the time and it's unrealistic to pretend they don't. Some think that Literotica is a private enterprise that should publish as the owners see fit.

The policy was put into effect during the reign of COPPA and John Ashcroft. Maybe all that's died down a bit, but less than a year ago, LiveJournal purged a ton of user content based on underaged sexuality because of government issues. Literotica is an international site. Some nationalities are not okay with it having any underage sex, though rape fantasy and violence are okay as long as adults are fine with it. Of course, some won't have it at all. Most likely, I would totally guess, Literotica just wants to avoid the hassle of the entire child-porn issue. If it's just not here, it's not a problem. I can't blame them. Most people would rather have a serial killer over for Christmas than a grown person who has sex with minors.

If you want to see what the hassle looks like, drop by the Loving Wives category and open up any story that seems to be about a cheating wife and a wimp husband. Read the public comments and notice the sheer amount of hate levied at the writer. It's bad enough, and there's not political hassles involved. Well, not unless the marriage folks send them email about it. Image what kind of vitriol would be spewed if minors started popping up. Not pedophilia even, but teenagers.

I can understand your point of view, you have a good story that probably has a few sentences that don't meet guidelines, so what the hell are you being persecuted for. But, I understand theirs as well.

Some think that Literotica is a private enterprise that should publish as the owners see fit.

That's rather strange wording. There's no question that it's a private Web site and the owners can do with it what they please.

QUOTE mikey2 There seems to be a posse of guys who always come rushing in to tell the writer how wrong he is and to not challenge the rules. I don’t know if the site pays them or not.

HAH! That’s a good question. Yes sir of course they do!

In fact a perfect example was the last LITEROTICA contest – the EARTH DAY one. Check out the winners and see if you spot any posse members.

Or you might check out the ongoing NUDE DAY contest. One of said posse, the infamous D.K.MOON, who’s been jumping all over your posts, asking you to follow the rules, has been allowed to openly flout one of the most basic rules on the site. Wonder why? How do we spell "REPAYMENT for TOADYISM!"

And look at the other members of this posse who've posted here (km, bb, ace, etc) and check out how they've been rewarded...

jrs

Yeah, check out how I've been rewarded. I'd like to know. My check must be hung up in the mail. :D

(And explain how it is that I agree with you on the no voting/no inclusion in contest point.)

He has mistaken you for one to the many voices in his head.

Mikey2much too much

When I have ' the Grand Pooh Paw' coming to my defense and so many of the guys I like on the other side I have to stop myself and reconsider.

You are right in that there are other sites. The story has posted. I just wanted to post it here.

I like this place better and unlike you I would not be afraid to fight to change some of the things that are wrong with it. But you people are part of the reason I like the site in the first place.

So the story is gone. I hope all hard feelings are also gone. Mine are.

There were never any hard feelings. Take my original advice, and PM Laurel and see what you need to do to get your story posted.

Like DKMoon said, there were never any hard feelings. And yes, we are very protective of this site. Laurel and Manu give us a very good place to post our work and they don't need to be hassled by the government or anyone else.

PS: Be very careful of Scouries. He has an ego the size of Alaska and he hates anyone in and of the AH. His stated objective when he came to post his feedback thread was to bring the AH and Lit down. Just a word of warning.

Just to clarify a few things for any newbies around:

The winner of the Earth day Contest, made reference to some characters in another story, so scouries reads this as making it a chaptered story. In actuality it is a complete standalone story with a beginning , a plot, a middle, and an end.

In the Nude Day Contest, DKMoon entered a story with voting turned off. A PM from Laurel, the site owner, says that, yes, it is ineligible to win but she see no reason it can't be entered. Of course, scouries sees this as cheating and has posted endlessly to that fact.

By the way, I'm bb or banana boy. As you can see, I'm one of the ones who call him on his bullshit and lies. Ace, SR71Plt, is another who calls him on his crap. KM, KillerMuffin is a great writer and has been around for a very long time, has know the site owners forever, so she's suspect to scouries anyway.

In the end it all boils down too scouries not being a good enough writer to win contests so everyone who does has to be cheating.

Man, I thought I won because I wrote a good story. ;)
