I have only taken to posting this problem here as a PM to Laurel and my persual of the FAQ has failed to provide an answer. I have twice now submitted a story to Literotica and twice it has been rejected with the tag line "is everything spelled correctly?"

Yes, everything is spelled correctly, the story is more than the minimum required length and it also meets all the other criteria specified on the site.

Why then, has my story been rejected twice? I went about submitting it in the exact same way as my others, which is the "copy and paste" format, so there cannot be any upload issues....

If you would like to PM me, or email it to me, I would be willing to look it over and see if I can spot the problem.

There are two vital considerations here. One is that it is probably a program that has looked at your story and thinks words like s'pose or pothering aren't real words even in dialect and then there's the whole question of Yanqui spelling altogether. They think colour is a misspelling and metre and centre.

although I've never had a rejection for spelling using only proper English spelling.

One other thing (which is so easy to miss) is misplacing letters when typing. tbu for but or adn for and.

Do you have spellcheck turned on when typing?

If you have spellcheck turned on, don't count on it to catch errors. It won't catch homonyms used incorrectly. (their/there, its/it's, but/butt, etc.)

I apologise for interrupting the flow and focus of this thread, but I was wondering about how long does it usually take for a story to get reviewed and posted/rejected after it's submission by the author?

Hi, Beastie, and welcome to Lit., and to AH in particular. This is a nice place to hang out when you don't feel like writing, even though you know you should be. :D

If it is an entry in a contest, such as the Winter Holiday contest going on now, it takes usually less than a day. If it is not an entry, and there is a contest going on, maybe a week but sometimes longer. Otherwise, about a week or a little less.

TB,

There's no hard-and-fast rule. Contest entries are now getting first priority. Most are being posted in a day or two. Non-entries might take a few days to a week or even longer. A lot depends on the number of stories being submitted. Laurel tries to even out the numbers so everyone gets at least one day on the first page of the NEW list.

In other words, what Box just said. :)

Hello, TB,

Welcome to the AH. :rose: Rumple and Box have already answered your question, but I just wanted to add; remember not to keep re-submitting your story when/if you view it, because that puts you right back at the end of the queue. ;)

Luck,

Yui

Oh, thanks for the advice, Yui. I'll definitely keep that in mind. Thanks you guys for welcoming me. I hope to enjoy myself around here as much as on the LitE site!

BadAlice, so sorry for interrupting your thread. I truly hope your situation gets resolved, and I wish I could help somehow. :(

That's absolutely true. I still swear by spellcheck for catching some of the silly typos and errors. The number one advice that writers around here need -- present company accepted ;) -- is to do a spellcheck, or have someone else do a read-through.

It's a rare story on here that isn't filled with distracting errors.

Spellcheck won't catch typos when they result in a normal word. Sometimes I mean to type "here" but omit the last letter. The result is a normal word so it won't be caught. It also won't catch putting in one word when you mean a similar one - like sayng "accepted" when you mean excepted. :rose:

Right, and that's why I typed that's absolutely true.

Your write that sometimes spellcheck mrs this things and ewe half to reed threw. ;) :D

But there are many writers who'd still be better off trusting spellcheck -- even if it might substitute new mistakes when it's perplexed by the work of a hardcore illiterate.

Spellcheck IS useful. I keep it on and sometimes when I am unsure about a spelling, I type in what I think is right, and see if it is accepted.

I edit every paragraph for wording several times and I do proofreading at the same time. That's when I catch typos and misspellings that have gotten by spellcheck.

Checked, checked, a 1000 times checked!

Thanx for your replies everyone - all I can say on that score is that I never rely on a spell checker, and nor do i use "text message" abbreviations/shortened words, and the grammar is spot on (if I do say so myself). It's been written and submitted in exactly the same style as my other 5 or 6 stories on Literotica, which is why I am so puzzled!

I kind of expected you to say that.
I would say, re-submit with a note saying "YES, EVERYTHING IS SPELLED CORRECTLY!"
It might be the English/American dichotomy between "S" and "Z" in words like "Idealise"/"Idealize"
but- I spell them in the English way, and I've never gotten a complaint about it...
