So there are two people who kind of hate each other (maybe they are climbing up the ladder at the same company or are political rivals). They are both strong willed, stubborn, and ambitious, which ups the stakes. On the way to an important foreign conference, their plane chrashes on an isolated island and they are the only survivors. In order to live and stay sane until rescuered, they have to communicate and cooperate with each other...which ends up leading to sex.

I don’t know what to put in the gap, and I’m also uncertain about what they do when rescued. Do they return to old ways, are things subtly different, or has everything changed? Tell me what you think!

Well you have plenty of options. I reccomend reading the book "hatchet" for ideas or even watching the movie "castaway" with tom hanks. There's also a movie with harrison ford and a blonde haired woman i forget the name of as well. In short write about the two of them getting established on the island.

You also may want to check out any books you can find in your library on survival related things. I haven't read many things recently on the subject but i can reccomend "100 deadly survival skills"

And a little advice you probably will want to give the male character some level of survival iq just so no one will question much how he knows. But what would be cool to do is have him hurt in some way physically as a result of the crash and while he's resting have the female character do the heavy lifting in the beginning

sounds roughly like the plot to "swept away" the lina wertmuller movie. only in that scenario, it was a servant and mistress who basically hated each other.

Anne Heche is the blonde girl's name. Not very forgettable though!! LOL! 6 Days and 7 Nights is the name of the Movie I think. Most notable quote from the picture was (paraphrasing here), "If you didn't bring it with you, you ain't gonna find it here... it's an island." Made with Harrison Ford's typical aplomb and stoic line delivery. Pretty funny movie. Anne Heche was hot to trot with Ellen DeGeneres at the time the movie was being made.

Your story idea has many possible spin offs too, as powerful people have associates that wield that power. Assistants and such that can provide background action as well as the main characters, both before and after the seclusion on the island.

Yea that's the name of the movie but still if you want to write a survival story write about getting established on the island. A good writer can write in the sexual tenion while they're surviving on the island. After that i think most likely write it in any direction you want.

There are also bounds of books (usually bdsm themed, mind you, but I'm sure there are vanilla ones) that can be bought/found on Goodreads, for example, that are pretty short and involve the "we're trapped here, let's fuck" type of plot. The ones that are bdsm-centric usually involve a sub letting go of their normal life to live on an island/ranch/etc to live a kink life 24/7. When I remember my log in for goodreads I will dig up the list of those books I made and send it to you.

I'm sorry if that's not what you're looking for and it isn't advice or anything, but maybe you will be able to find inspiration in similar erotic works.

Best of luck. :)

As has been suggested, the filler/character development space that I think you're looking for can be easily filled by looking at the initial struggle on the part if your leads simple to survive. I get that this can be a poor answer if you have no idea what survival will entail.

In the service,we taught survival as an extension of Maslow's hierarchy of human needs in that these are constants to any situation, even being stuck on a desert island.

The link below is a pretty spiffy look at how this approach is applied to survival.

You don't have to look at all of them, you can pick two to four, depending on the needs if the story and buy yourself some development time pretty easily.

For example, while Financial Security is not a priority for castaways, communication with passing ships or aircraft is. Show them stacking wood for a beach fire or positioning fallen trees to mark and SOS on the beach or in a clearing. Acute Medical Care is an issue that can only really be addressed by the right people WITH the right equipment and supplies. They don't even want to dwell on this to much, as doing do will negatively impact morale and can lead to paralyzing fear. "I can't do X, what if I am injured?" This could in itself give you a good scene in which to develop one or both characters by exploring that fear.

Well i have to disagree a little with this, there is a limited amount of medical things you can do with just a few items. In a survival situation you have to think a little more first aid than full on medical care. For example did anyone know dental floss makes good sutchering material?

Note the word, "Acute".

Yes, I can keep myself and others alive with a bit of MacGuiver medicine. But the referenced material talks to acute medical care. There is a point where all the creative repurposing in the world just isn't enough.
