Story for Charlotte

I hope Charlotte likes men who don't know how to paragraph.

She's prob'ly more into guys who like to point out everyones faults.

I'm not too certain of the purpose -

of you posting most of the story here, ERMan.

Are you looking for editing help? Are you wishing to discuss writing techniques? Is this a political thread??? ;)

There is a Story Feedback Forum.

Here is a link to writer's resources and submission information.

Good luck.

No I think the Dr is right. I do get going and tend to forget to paragraph. Good point.

He could have had a little tact about pointing it out. His biggest shortcoming. He has all the tact of an elephant stampede.

Your structure does need some help, but I see the story as being worth the effort to take your time and do a good job. Think everything through, write it down, then read over what you just wrote looking for things like senance and paragraph structure. You might even want to have someone else edit it for you. Often someone else can see things that you don't.

Hi My I and Sarah, Actually I am making an attempt to write a story on this thread out of my head kind of like a daily journal. I am not worrying too much about spelling and grammar. I hope that is alright with everyone. Thanks. ERM

In the Story Feedback Forum people will help you with a story in progress, editing, ideas, whatever. The Author's Hangout is more for discussion of posted stories, writing suggestions, flirting and politics, etc.

But ER Man, no offense, Literotica isn't really the place for an ongoing journal.

You're cute and you smell good.

Okay seriously. Sorry, ERM, but this really isn't the place for an ongoing work in progress. Try the Story Feedback board.

See, all we authors go through the same thing: we write our stories, edit them, get them as good as we possibly can, then we submit them and wait a week to ten days to see if they post. Then we beg people to read them and give us feedback. Publishing your story on a board is like jumping to the head of the line and taking unfair advantage, and if everyone did it, then we wouldn't have any boards at all, just works in progress.

Plus, a lot of us--oh hell, maybe just me--think that publishing first draft stuff is downright disrespectful to the reader. It's like saying, "Here, this is good enough for you. I don't really care how good it is anyhow."

But you didn't know. Sorry if I offended you.

As I said, the Story Feedback board is ideal for posting works-in-progress and getting feedback as you go. If you want real in-depth analysis, the kind of thing you'll find in a college writing class, then try the Story Discussion Circle, but you'll be asked to analaysie 2-3 other stories yourself in return.

If you want up-cose editing help and help with mechaincs, go to the Editor's Forum where there are people waiting to help. Or if nothing else, PM some writers here you admire and ask them for their personal comments on your work. Or PM me. I can almost always make time for a critique.

If you want to want collaborate with some other writers or even if you just want to write a blog-type installment story, try the Sexual Role Playing Board. Start a closed thread there. Or go to Chyoo, where other people can join in writing alternate versions of your story or you can create it in installments.

There must be half a dozen ways to do what you want to do on Literotica, but there's only one place where authors can post our "What's Your Favorite Movie Star's Middle Name Spelled Backwards?" threads.

When you started out way up in square one, you said that you hoped it would be okay if you wrote a story here in the hangout. Well, it's not okay with me. But if you don't care whether it's okay or not, then fire away. I'll just bugger off.

I'm sorry about your experience at Lit, and for what it's worth, yes, they are jerks over in the General Board. That's what makes the Author's Hangout so special and precious to us.

ERM, welcome to Lit and the AH. I had a rough time over at the GB, but so did everyone else, so nothing personal :D

I guess the beauty of the AH is that people with a common goal - writing, and writing good - hang out and talk (whether it be crap or not ;) ). I think some arthers may be offended by your post because it is not an interaction as such.

But I have to hand it to you, you've got balls to jump into a new forum of writers and let your unfinished story hang for everyone to see. I'm sorry you didn't get the reaction you wanted.

Good luck with your writing, and hope to see your work posted on the literotica site soon.

Well I guess you are right Dr. Downer! Probably the best thing for me is to forget these boards all together. I mistakenly thought Literotica was a lot more open and inviting than it really is. I accidentally posted the first part of this thread on the General board and was called a fucker. Seems that this place is just as uptight and grouchy as the rest of the world maybe more. People sure post some mean, misspelled, gramatically incorrect and down right unedited comments on the boards so why should I not be able to write something nice here? I guess I just don't understand. I thought it would be fun and in truth the first two posts were fun to write. The comments made it unfun really quick. Maybe you should try it you might like it. ERM

Sorry to offend, but I agree with Zoot. Er, Dr. Downer.

And "You're welcome," by the way, for ignoring my offer to help you.

Personally, unless asked, I am not interested in reading first drafts. I have enough of my own to worry about, so this type of thread is unfair to the reader.

(I have actually spent time editing stories for two new Author's Hangout members in the past week - because they asked - but it was done via PM and without a lot of fanfare.)

Of the people who responded to you on this thread, you have taken issue with one, but if you read carefully, the rest of us said the same thing.

We'd love to read your posted stories.
Do you need help to get your story submitted?
Do you need help with editing first?
Perhaps the Story Feedback Forum is better suited for what you are attempting?

The Author's Hangout is a unique place and is more accepting than the General Board. They only called you a fucker on the GB? I'm surprised. Many of us have been royally flamed when posting there.

If you wish to keep a journal, why don't you do that in your personal files? Send emails to yourself, keep a daily log, whatever. I write a great deal of material that nobody reads but me.

If you want to stomp home, that's your choice, of course. But people have been attempting to help and to befriend you here. Why aren't you listening?

Don't shoot me, y'all, but I kinda had a stupid question. What was wrong with him posting a work in progress here? I don't mean to irritate anyone, I just don't quite understand. Forgive me please, but I had to ask.

You know I love y'all.

LOL - Ask away, please!

Have you been to the Story Feedback Forum? Hundreds of threads (with few or zero replies) that say:
Read my first story, please!
Feedback wanted, please!
Help on first story, please!
Gimme feedback now!
Read my first story!
Feedback now!
Read my stuff!
Feedback!
Read Me! Read Me! Read Me!

And so on - until the end of time.

And there is a true purpose for that, and a terrific place on Lit for it. I would just sincerely hate for the Author's Hangout to become that.

Does that make sense? :rose:

I guess I didn't take this thread as one of those "read me and tell me how wonderful I am" threads. I got the impression it was just something kind of silly to do. I'm in agreement with you about not wanting the AH to turn into one of "those" kinds of boards, but I didn't mind this one because he didn't ask for feedback or impressions; he just said "this is what I'm doing, you can read it if you want to". Oh well, just my thoughts on the matter.
