That more like reviews that you'd use for PR/press releases. For those who bemoan over the lack of reader feedback, Kirkus Reviews is currently offering $50 off the price of their reviews for independent writers.
Kirkus Reviews aren't meant for personal feedback. They review books for book buyers, libraries, media, etc.I appreciate the link, but I've never heard of this Kirkus and I can't see any reason why I would put much trust in their credentials, 400$ price aside.
I like this idea and have often thought about something similar, when loading my control panel and dismaying at the lack of comments on my writing. But then I remember that I barely have time to read other people’s pieces myself.I appreciate the link, but I've never heard of this Kirkus and I can't see any reason why I would put much trust in their credentials, 400$ price aside.
There are more than a few authors here who are willing to review stories on request, for free, and I think their collective wisdom is more than good enough to help an author improve.
There were also ideas in the past to organize a circle of people who could offer their opinions and reviews on stories, a book club of a sort. I still think that's a great idea in general and an opportunity for an author to get some precious and extensive feedback that could help them improve their writing. It's a shame there is such passivity in AH when it comes to more interesting and beneficial topics. These days it seems to me that only boasting threads and casual MEME-trivia threads flourish.
I see. So no real use to an anonymous smut writer then.Kirkus Reviews aren't meant for personal feedback. They review books for book buyers, libraries, media, etc.

The post was a tongue-in-cheek poke at those who over-obsess about story feedback. And if you're an Amazon writer, you can lose your access to selling there if you pay for reviews. It's considered highly unethical.

Kirkus reviews would not violate Amazon's policies since the reviews would not be posted on their site. The best-selling books on Amazon likely have Kirkus reviews. Mainstream publishers seek then out for most books that they release.
