Story Category: Oral Only

I was told by another author who requested that a category of "Oral" be established, that she was told oral sex was now so commonplace virtually every story submitted could fit into it.

That may be true, but it fails to differentiate the stories in which the featured (or only) acts are fellatio and/or cunnilingus.

My stories have been more orally oriented than most and, I've gotten (mildly) beaten up by readers who expect a more intercourse-y approach. Oral sex, even to orgasm, is still something that leads to intercourse, not an end in itself. I have two stories in the works that feature cunnilingus that I'd like to submit in an "Oral Only" category because that is what describes them best.

I don't know how the categories are established or how to request a new one but would like to know what others think about whether oral stories deserve a category of their own.

The peoblem with establishing a category in which only oral activity takes place is that you'll wind up with so many different categories mashed in there that it'll piss the readers off.

Think about it logically, l.o.w., oral only could belong in any of the categories Lit has already. For instance, I have a story that's exclusively oral, but I really doubt that you'd want to read it. It's called A Gift, and the tagline for it is "A BJ for JB". What that doesn't tell you is that it's guy on guy oral.

Be honest, do you really want to me merrily reading along, maybe getting a mild chub, and suddenly discover that it's a man giving oral to another man? I really don't think so. I think what would happen is that you would be pissed and disgusted at this revelation, and wind up slamming my story with a one or two vote because it didn't fit into you idea of erotic oral action.

Please, don't think that I'm critisizing your tastes because I'm not. Gay Male isn't for everyone, and I'm well aware of this. I'm just trying to make a point that anything that has nothing but oral action in it, from Celebrities to Transsexuals & Cross Dressers could be put into a category like that one and it would be. Consequently, a lot of people would get pissed at the random nature of the category.

If you really want to set your stories apart, and let oral lovers know they've found what they're looking for then you should look at the rest of the story and determine what category it fits in, then taylor your tag line to reflect it's orally oriented nature. If you do it right with a couple of them then people who are draw to such stories will look you up specifically, to see what else you've written, and somewhere in your main profile you can state that the main focus of most, or all, of your stories are orally bent. You'll gain a following that way, people who beg you to write more like them and anticipate your next tale.

I disagree with nothing you wrote and only note that the same can be said for the "Anal" category.

Most stories can fit into multiple categories. If my tale is about an older wife who offers a blowjob to a young man, it can be submitted under "Mature," "Erotic Couplings" or perhaps, the "Loving Wives" category. If I write the same story except that anal sex replaces oral sex, I can also differentiate it as an "Anal" story.

Although I can, and sometimes do, alert readers that my story is about a blow job, I must depend on them to search it out over several categories in order for them to see that differentiator in the description line. Again, if I write about an older woman giving head, readers seeking BJ tales must sort through all the mature stories that don't feature oral sex to find it.

When you write a story about men engaging in oral sex with other men, you know exactly where to place it. Even if one of the men is older, I doubt you consider submitting it under the Mature category because there is a better one (IMHO).

If I am a reader and want to find stories about just oral sex, where do I go?

Yes, I would've put my story in GM even if there was a category for nothing but oral, but I'm not everyone. A lot of stories would wind up getting slammed for being put into that category because the oral readers didn't like the sort of characters giving and recieving. Like wise, a lot of stories that would get good scores and high readership would get missed because the target audience would be looking in that category for it.

Maybe you're right, and no one writing non-hetero would put their stories in there, after all, I can't imagine that any story of M/M anal sex ever winds up in Anal, but I bet you'll find F/F anal in there. Not that that's a problem since straight and bi men get off on the idea of F/F action of any kind. *snerk*
