So, I'm not even sure if this is legal, but I'm looking for an editor for my Valentine's Day submission. I [edit: usually] give myself two months to edit before uploading to Lit, but in order to make this deadline, I have to rush the story.

So is that legal?

And uh... anybody feel like editing a (Non Consent) Valentine's Day story?

Uh  Correct me if I'm wrong or don't understand what you mean...but the Valentine's Day contest is already in progress. If you take two months to edit and re-edit your story it won't be in the Valentine's Day contest for sure. Unless you mean that you intend to enter it for next year Valentine's Day contest but then you wouldn't need to give yourself a deadline of two months as you'd have a full year.

Am I missing something here?

I gather the author prefers not to rush (don't we all, lol!), usually taking weeks to edit a story, but in this case the contest deadline requires a more urgent approach. At least that's my take on it.

I'm not sure what to make of the "is that legal" portion of the message except perhaps the author doesn't know if it's acceptable to ask for such a quick turnaround? Knowing the story's length in words would help determine how long an edit is likely to take.

What I meant by "Is that legal?" is "Will having a Lit editor edit my story before submission disqualify me from the contest, as having an editor might constitute an unfair advantage over those who wrote and edited the stories themselves?"

Come on already.

If that's illegal, then I've been cheating.

Nahhh it's not cheating to have someone edit your stories :) Quite the contrary. :) It only makes for a story with less errors 99% of the time :)

If having a story edited is illegal... I'm in deep deep doo doo.... I actually sent mine to two editors....

The person I usually have look at mine told me to dump the whole thing.. since it was total crap...I did re write it a touch after that.. but didn't dump it.

The second.... well... since I liked her assessment... did a wonderful job... ty Lady C.

Lady C... do I have to share Og's last place award with ya if I win it?

Nope DP, Og's last place won't be yours so you don't have to share it with anyone. :) But if you DID get last place, you don't need to share it with me, just money will do. :p

You may be right.. there seems to be a conspiracy of those trying to keep me from achieving my rightful place at the bottom.

And for anyone who doesn't understand.. the idea of Ogbasham's last place award is not to write an awful story... but to encourage some of us to write things that we don't uaually try.... since it is a voluntary oportunity... through the support thread in the Author's Hangout..... the last place story is usually a pretty good one... just not a winner... It is an honor, at least to me, to try something different... and if you don't get the scores...... at least there is last....

That's the biggest load of BS if I heard any. Rightful place???? You wouldn't know how to write a last place story even if you had both arms in cast!!! Your stories are much too good for that.

I know it's lame to hound you after you just busted a mental nut with your VC/NC tale--but don't you owe the youth a story about men being sucked off?

Haha, yes, yes I do. I interrupted a story to write it, and then I interrupted that story to write my Valentine's story. Lay off!

(I'll get to it when I get to it, it will probably finish it next or second)

Comming from you.. that is high praise indeed... I just hope that I stay worthy of such compliments.

Mech.. just a couple notes... as for me.... not counting the idea process.. I seldom spend more than two to three hours writing a story... maybe twice that to fix it before anyone sees it.... I don't think I've ever spent more than maybe 4 or 5 days between when my fingers first touched a keyboard and submitting a story.

Welcome to the contest.... and the trolls.... Lady C.... just fer your info.... someone pointed out that my story was in second place last night.... before morning.. it had plummeted from 4.89 to a 4.69.. and it's still falling. Aren't trolls lovely?

Oh, but I love the trolls!!! :nana: They are the consecration and the living proof that your work is good! Why else would anybody waste their time shitting on stories if it isn't because they feel threathened by the quality of ones work huh? :p

I couldn't agree more.. and why wasting yer time trying to check scores is not worth it... neither ballot box stuffing or trolling go un noticed.

Impressive that you can type that fast. I usually spend about an hour a paragraph typing and thinking. If I'm really into a story, I can usually manage half of it in five consecutive hours or so, but I usually take 8-15 hours total for a story, mainly because I write in parts and have to remember my motivation. Long stories take longer. My last story (before this VDay submission) took about 8-9 months of writing, leaving it alone, and coming back to it.

I spend usually 1 to 2 hours editing, but I always see typos or better ways to write things when I re-read and re-read them over the years. That's why I don't upload to Lit until 2 months after I finished and posted my story on my website. Any problem I don't catch by then is minor.
