I've always loved the idea of the middle ages. The real men. The power of the monarchy. The maidens in distress. It's just all pretty sexy.

I have never written pure fiction before (most of my work is semi-autobiographical or about people I've known.) I'm trying to think of what a new twist might be on it all.

Any thoughts?

A knight in shining armour encounters a beautiful princess tied to a tree next to a cave where a dragon lives. The knight slays the dragon, and the princess, enraged, ties the knight to the tree and uses him against his will (sort-of). Then she takes his sword and his horse, and rides away leaving him to the mercy of the dragon's children.

Honestly the easiest thing to do is to write about a woman sent off to a nunnery. Middle ages there was this odd idea that a daughter sent off to be with nuns would remain a virgin. Only for those who are of royalty, everyone else has to keep all hands at the farm. Though this is the same age as rich peasants started happening so you would see their daughters getting the same thing.

Which means there are a lot of women who are of age and are waiting for their dad to find them a husband. Not all of them waited, and a number didn't want a husband anyway, but that was the idea. So you can do a story about a woman waiting for the husband, with the other nuns and cloistered women getting busy around her and wanting that husband something fierce. Can change it around and she ends up deciding a husband is a bad idea so becomes a nun instead.

A woman who becomes a nun then answers only to god, so dad can't marry her off, can't get her out of the nunnery. Also would see women becoming nuns to avoid their abusive husband. Likely a number of the nuns of the time took their vows to get away from what there is of a law of the time.

There is one other option, nuns did travel. The church says they did to voice their opinions on religious matters. Most likely said nuns traveled to make sure the priests were getting enough sex. Children were to be found in a nunnery, officially they are orphans. :D

As Emap points out, nunneries were basically whorehouses for priests! Though I can imagine they were places of escape and no doubt discovery of lesbian desires too...

what about a gallant knight wandering for years in search of the Holy Grail who comes upon a nunnery where the nuns offer their behinds for spankings???

Loving that Nunnery Idea

Thanks for the thoughts and ideas. I'm going to do some research on the Nunneries and start a story based on that!
