I recently edited a fine short story that mentioned the author and his companion smoking a joint.

i realized that most of the stories I read on literotica may contain alcohol, but not marijuana. yet i distinctly remember many stories outside literotica, especially in Penthouse forum adn similar venues, having cannabis as a central component.

what are your takes on having illicit drugs in your stories? I mean, how many stories out there feature the characters shooting up, or doing lines, or scoring lids sometime in the storyline. is it because most literotica writers have limited or no experience with the materials? or is it because they clutter up the story and alcohol can do the job just as well?

is it ethical to mix drugs with erotica?

and what if you AND play rock at the same time?

in fact, how many artists are mentioned by name in the stories?

Most of my characters don't do illegal drugs. Some of them do, but none of them have appeared in my erotic fiction. They look like some of my relatives actually, but that's a different story.

I think that a character's personality defines whether or not they do drugs. If that's the character then that's what they should do. Porn is life imitating porn imitating life. Or some such thing.

Some people think that drugs are good. Some people think that the "hard" drugs are bad and the "soft" drugs are good. Some people think that all drugs are bad.

My take is that if the character thinks drugs are good, then the character should do them. However, I don't think that an author who romanticizes drug use is doing anyone, least of all their stories, any favors. Inebriation does bad things to the human body and pretending that it doesn't is plain stupid. That's all kinds of inebriation. The consequences of it aren't always fun and it shouldn't look like one of those beer commercials where everyone is gorgeous and everyone is having a fabulous time. We don't believe those.

I don't have a problem with a joint being smoked in a story if it fits the story and the characters.

I edited a story once where the writer referred to the scotch the main character was drinking every paragraph or so. It got to the point where I wondered if the drink was a character. So if you're going to mention the recreational substance, don't go overboard.

If someone was mainlining heroin or freebasing, I'd probably back-click. I'm a judgemental sort of gal when it comes to certain things like substance abuse. I live vicariously through the stories, and I have no desire whatsoever to experience hard drugs even fictionally.

Druggies

There are characters who do drugs. We may not see them do it in the story, but maybe they are high or acting stoned. They can really expand the realm of what is being presented in the story.

In a weird sort of way, the inclusion of drugs with a character or two takes the story into the whole world instead of a family or isolated group of neighbors.

It can give you great excuses to loosen the character's sense of who they must be according to society. Let their more base desires surface. Or at least give rise to experimentation in their behavior (or contribute to an author's goal of doing so).

There are people who do drugs. I've certainly been one of them in my insideous past. Fortunately my dark mood swings are largely headed off with exercise now rather than a powder. Aaa-choo!

I prefer the occasional joint partaker over the occasional drunk. My preference. And I would take either of them over a coke or heroin user. And a lot of the rave drugs that folks take now-a-days...just forget it, it's stupid. Might as well put a gun to your head.

One of my favorite pill-popping, dope smoking characters was the porche driving, ex-literate hippy played by William Hurt in "The Big Chill." Ever see it? He starts out as this pathetic loser with no job among friends that have houses and own companies. By the end he is just a little less of a pathetic loser, but loveable none-the-less.

smoking pot

Now you bring back a memory. It was newyear in Auz. To young girls came in from Taz with two large bags of leaf and heads. There 6 women and only 3 men. When the sun rose over the sea that new year morning we were all good friends. The only problem is the images I have are bizzar. That to write them out into a story would be difficult as my writting skills arent that great.
But if someone would like to help me organise my memories maybe it could turn into a great story.

I have no personal experience with "rave" drugs, but many of my friends do. Not to glorify them, but from what I understand, X was much safer when it was still legal. Now it is often made in some idiot's bathtub. One guy told me that he put things like acid, PCP, strichnine, and even steroids in his stuff. You have to be an idiot to take something like that.

Still, an ex who abused X in her younger days said that she and her girlfriends got terrible boils all over their bodies. Boils cannot be sexy to anyone.

Personally, I do not care to mix drugs or alcohol with sex. In stories, they often seem superfluous, and in life they seem like a way to avoid your partner, yourself or both. Sex is not the time to do that.

i wonder how many literotica readers/writers have combined marijuana with sex. i haven't done it since my college days, but i do remember how enhanced the physical feelings were; how time slowed and sensation increased; however, i don't remember my emotions being affected much.

i wonder how hard ity would be to accurately portray that physical enhancement, especially to those who have never experienced it?

We're definitely not a sight for underage readers, so we could technically add the drugs, couldn't we? I guess most of us just don't think that drugs are sexy at all. i know I don't add them just because I try not to write what I know nothing about...and I don't do drugs so...
Not to judge anyone who does...if it feels good (and if no one gets hurt) then do it...
Basically, we don't write what we don't think fits a story...and sex and drugs are more of a rape story, since a high person isn't of sound mind to make a decision to consent. I think most of us don't think that's very sexy...
Of course, now that it's been mentioned, I might write on...heh-heh

Bluetrain- You see the problem i mentioned the story would be so fantastical and surreal it would be like a Riddley Scot movie. Remember the scene in gladiator where he was ill and floating across the ground with intense colours? That is somewhere near my memories of that super fantastic new year.
The amazing thing was the next morning. No one felt giulty or had recriminations.
So if you have the skill how about a colaboration. But you have to have done it to understand the colour and intencity.

WEED???

I am a 60's child. My characters do acid and coke. And anyone who has fucked on them knows why.

I think that my series, "The Dance", accurately portrayed the physical giddyness, horniness, and slowed-motion feelings of a couple in lust who have just shared a blunt.

~~Excerpt from "The Dance Marathon"

I still couldn't believe what I was seeing. Maybe a part of me still couldn't believe this whole scenario, with the Beastie Boy's "She's Crafty" now playing in the background and the undulating blue light all around us… and a sexy, half-naked woman old enough to be my mom asking me if I want a shotgun from her. Indicating the cigar in her hand, I asked, "Did you blunt that out?"

Nodding yes, she pulled my head to hers with her free hand and began kissing me. "Surprised?" she asked after blowing a lung full of marijuana smoke into my mouth. She went back to the other side of the hot tub and sat down.

I thought about this as I exhaled. Shrugging, I replied, "Mildly. Let's just say you keep me on my toes… but not on the edge of my seat."

She said, "In other words, you never know what I'll do next, but you're not surprised when I do it?"

"Exactly. Now pass the blunt."

She took another hit, then leaned over and passed it to me. Shaking her head, she said, "Well, that's no good… there's gotta be an element of surprise, or what's the point?"

"I never said I was disappointed. In fact, I can't wait to see what's next."

She grinned then, leaning back into her seat. "That's the beauty of it… not knowing what's gonna happen tonight." We sat there awhile just enjoying the mellow effects of the bud, occasionally rapping along with Ad Rock, Mike D, and MCA.

At one point, Lara raised a leg out of the water, pointing her toes toward the ceiling. Running a hand along the side, she said, "Damn, I've got the best fucking legs, even if I do say so myself. I truly believe this is the sexiest leg I have ever seen." Smiling seductively, she added, " Don't you agree, Josh?"

The iridescent blue light from the hot tub illuminated the soft skin along the back of her leg, glistening with drops of water. She was right; I could compare women's legs the rest of my life, and none would come close to the sexy legs of Lara Hauptmann's. But I liked to push her buttons.

"One of the best," I replied dryly.

"What do you mean, 'one of the best'? They ARE the… Oh, that's right! This leg IS one of the best, because it's in a tie for first place with THIS one!" she laughed, lowering her left leg and raising her right. She placed her hands on either side of her thigh, twirling her foot and pointing her toes. "Damn, my legs are so sexy, I'd fuck them if it were possible."

I couldn't help it - I started to giggle. "Shit, woman, you're fucked up! How long has it been since you smoked weed?"

She looked at me and countered, "You think I'm talking shit? I'm not talking shit, you can see for yourself that these are some damn fine legs. Any man who says otherwise is a fucking liar." Looking down then, she placed her hands over her breasts and cupped them, gently squeezing. "And these breasts?" she asked, beginning to pinch and tweak her nipples. "I wouldn't trade them for the world. Pinch my nipples just the right way and I can cum buckets…" She leaned her head back and closed her eyes, continuing to squeeze and pinch her titties, while I tried to keep from giggling. That's when I realized that I was the one getting stoned. My usual vices were alcohol, pills and coke; I couldn't remember the last time I'd smoked bud, so the effects were already hitting me.

Just then, the sampled Latin beats of War's 'Low Rider' began the intro to the Beastie Boy's 'Slow Ride'. Standing up, Lara began swaying her hips to the beat as she made her way over to me. Sitting on my lap, she said, "You think this is some kind of well-orchestrated attempt on my part to seduce you, don't you?"

"Well, I hope it is!" I replied with a grin.

Rolling her eyes and nodding, she said, "Okay, okay… I admit I set the stereo up in here, and I had champagne and a blunt ready for us, but that's it. What happens in the next, oh, 18 hours is anyone's guess." She took the blunt from me and inhaled deeply.

I reached around her and untied the neck of her swim top. I started to lean down and take one of those delicious looking nipples in my mouth, to see if I could indeed make her cum, but she put a finger under my chin and lifted my head up to hers and kissed me deeply, giving me another shotgun of smoke as she did.

I was working on the hook on the back of her swim top as I took the smoke into my lungs. I finally got it unfastened and pulled it out from between us, throwing it somewhere in the room. Taking her by the waist, I lifted her up. I blew the smoke onto her nipples and watched as they went from soft and moist to hard and dangerous, beckoning my mouth to them.

Drugs are mentioned numerous times in this series; the main character is a small time drug dealer who is having a torrid affair with the mother of one of his clients, who believes he is just a friend of her son's. Although the female character smokes pot, she is adamantly opposed to any other drug usage. Their polar-opposite beliefs are what finally tear the sexually charged relationship apart.

An ex once accused me of being a real-life Annie Hall; not being a big Woody Allen fan at the time, I had to agree with him when he explained that Annie Hall would not have sex with the Woody Allen character unless she had smoked a joint first. It DOES enhance sex, IMHO. And that humble opinion made it's way into my first attempt at erotica, because it seemed much more realistic to base the female character in my first story on someone I was familiar with and felt comfortable writing about: Me.

No appologies,
EOD
