Stories with 2 POVs - by 2 separate authors?

I’m new to Literotica - hello, all! Seriously enjoying all the writing and reading. So much fun.

It’s possible that this already exists somewhere on the site and I’m unaware (and apologies if so, and could you point me in the right direction?) but I’d like to ask about an idea:

I like the idea of inventing a situation with another author - a time, a place, a couple of characters, a scenario - and then each of us taking one of the characters from that situation and writing the story from that character’s point of view.

It would be a sort of twinned piece. Two distinct author voices, two separate character points of view, same scenario. Does that make sense? Could be published as two separate stories (linking to the other), or as one piece. I think it could be super interesting.

Anyway, does this already exist on the site? Have people done it before?

And, if not, would there be any appetite for this?

Thanks - GuiltyCowboy

Collaborators here typically invent a joint account to post their co-written tales; I'm not sure whether there's a better way to do it.

Personally, I would not be interested in reading that kind of thing. But that's just me.

If you're going to find that, it's probably in Chain Stories. That's where I'd start looking, anyway.

The Quaranteam scenario is sort of a shared universe run by CorruptingPower; he writes the primary story and makes the big decisions, but several other writers play in his sandbox. Their characters do not, so far as I am aware, interact with each other, so that might not be what you're thinking of. But it's a good example of a shared scenario taken in different directions by different authors -- BreakTheBar's Northwest is more grounded, Otterly Mindblowing's Remote Work is bizarre and fantastical, and the main story is somewhere in between.

There are also situations where authors have allowed others to write stories focused on side characters within their work. Brooke's Wild Ride by MisterWildcard is a canonical side story to aimingtomisbehave33's series Senior Year Memories, starring one of SYM's primary harem members. It's not, as far as I know, referenced in SYM itself, though.

I don’t have the time to do it, but may be interested if it was a short story.

My wife and I did this a bit on our thread “our sex diary” … we thought it was fun to post my version a snd her versions were quite different. She was a bit more active when we started.

Sort of like the movie “he said, she said.”

A little like the French film "Histoires de Sexe(s)" (Sex Stories), in which groups of men and women at separate dinner parties talk about their sex lives. The movie tells the same sex stories by switching back and forth between points of view and what actually happened.

Exactly this: https://forum.literotica.com/forums/sexual-role-playing.11/ (or non-sexual https://forum.literotica.com/forums/online-role-playing.10/). Hundreds of people (dozens of regulars) doing this daily.

There ya go. ; )

I've done this with a friend about ten years ago. His/Her version of the same story, a BDSM themed one off weekend together.

I wouldn't recommend doing this with any writer you don't know well as it requires a certain personality type to get it right without writing over each other.

It can be done, and it can be done extremely well, but if there's a mismatch in talent and style between the writers, it will be apparent and the story will drag because of it.

Currently, there are only three writers here I would consider doing this with, and two of them outpace me in writing talent by a mile so I'd never ask them and the third is unlikely to ever consider such an endeavor, but I would welcome it as, while they are a better writer than me by a lot, I think our styles mesh fairly well and would make up for that fact.

Same here, I'd like to find another writer to collaborate with on a story. Good luck with your search for a collaborator.

Collaborations aren't all that common, but they can and do work. Usually, each writer finds something in common with the other: liking each other's characters, for example, or finding common themes. I've got collabs here with three other writers, each quite different, and I know of several other writing pairs. It's not for everyone, that's for sure, but there's no rules as to how it works - you have to figure it out with the other person.

There are many cowritten stories here.
I participated in a story telling exercise including 2 other writers. We took a song, each telling the story from different perspectives.
It turned out to be fun, but also difficult to manage. Each of us having to copy and paste dialogue so we matched. Lots of back and forth.
It is a very interesting process, and requires a lot of cutting and pasting and back and forth. A lot of rewriting sections because everything has to knit together seamlessly.
If you can find somebody to collaborate with, I recommend it.

Hey GuiltyCowboy, welcome to Literotica! Your idea sounds super cool and creative, it’s like a literary duet where two authors riff off the same scenario but through different perspectives. While I’m not sure if it’s been done exactly like that on the site, collaborative writing and shared universes definitely exist in the community. I think there’d be a lot of interest in this kind of project, especially from readers who enjoy seeing the same story unfold through different lenses. You should totally pitch it in the forums or writing groups, I bet you’ll find someone eager to team up! Good luck and have fun writing!

Collaborating on a story like that definitely requires a strong connection and mutual respect between writers, especially when it comes to matching styles and pacing. It’s awesome that you’ve had a positive experience with it in the past, sounds like it can be a rewarding creative process when the chemistry is right. Maybe someday the stars will align with one of those three writers you mentioned! Until then, keep doing your thing, your self-awareness and respect for others’ talents are actually cool.

Thanks to all for the advice and for sharing your experiences. I think it might be wise to take some time to find my footing here, see who I spark to etc., before jumping in.

Also, Erozetta, I saw one of your posts elsewhere - praising a story by D_K_Moon (and specifically the attention to non-visual detail around male masturbation) - and it prompted me to do a short story with that in mind. Might be published sometime on Sunday.

I'm mostly doing short, single scene, stroke stories; and so the idea fit quite easily with that. Anyway, thanks basically for putting that out there. Made me take the first baby step in the evolution in of my scribbling.

Chain Stories and shared universes like Quaranteam are great examples of collaborative writing. They let authors explore different angles while staying within a shared framework. Side stories, like Brooke’s Wild Ride, add depth to main narratives without overshadowing them. If you’re looking for inspiration or a place to jump in, these are solid starting points.
