Stories posted before their dates

I've seen this happen before, but not to this extent. Chapters 6 through 9 of "Porn Star's Daughter," by drscar, are listed on the New roll with posting dates of Feb. 22 through 25. They can be opened and read. They're in different categories, so they're not taking up too much space in one hub, and it may not matter to the author, nor to readers. But it looks like a big oops in the site's system.

I'm about to submit a five-chapter series, all in the same category, and I want them posted on consecutive days, not all at once. I'll mention this prominently in the Notes field. This category gets a big load of stories every day, and I'd like each of mine to have a day of visibility on the hub, and I also don't want to take hub space away from other stories scheduled properly for their dates. If the site folks notice this thread, I hope they can work out a fix.

I keep control of that on my end, spacing submissions as I want them to be posted.

I also wonder if this too-early posting keeps a story on a hub until the supposed posting date passes. I'll look for that tomorrow.

It's not really a glitch if they're in different categories. If they were all in the same category, Laurel would set the release clock a day apart. From what I've seen, she feeds each category fairly evenly, but of course category volumes are markedly different so the throughput and time on page will vary.

If your chapter batch is all in the same category, and you've got a Note to the Editor, you should be okay. Or you can submit them daily yourself, but that won't guarantee a regular release because you won't know what else is in the queue on any given day.

I think people seem to be missing the point that the glitch is the story date being future dates. A story saying 2/25 when we're on 2/20 is the glitch more than them all coming out at once.

True enough, but then there are lots of folk bewailing the current delay in stories at the moment, so there's a silver lining, stories being released early :).

Laurel fixed it. The chapters that had been posted early were removed, and chapter 5 just went live.

It's a Mystery

Author of the stories here.

I did get a response back about the mixup, and at the moment the cause is unclear. The stories were scheduled to go out one day at a time, in different categories, and Laurel is unsure as to why they got posted all at once ahead of schedule.

I *did* get a lot of messages about "Where is Chapter 5", though. :)

I think the staggered schedule may not just have to be that it's in a single category, but also possibly have to do with the fact that it's part of a series. Just a hunch.

It's happened again. At the top of the New roll for Feb. 24 are a story dated Feb. 27 and another dated Feb. 25.

This is probably no harm/no foul, like when a story is listed both at the bottom of the first page and the top of the second, but it suggests to me that things in general aren't under the site folks' control. It's just me, but I'd like to see existing glitches in the site addressed before beta rollouts of new features.
