I don't know if you guys have seen this or talked about it already but you should check out this website:

http://www.blogchalking.com/life/ms/forced-sex/

I went there and found two of my stories ripped off (posted without my permission or knowledge) literally word for word. No effort was even made to disguise them.

I am a little peeved off but, at the same time, I'm also flattered.
The guy thought well enough of them to plagiarize them. Didn't he? :p

Just thought that, if he ripped me off, he would rip off others too.
It might do you well to check and see if one of your stories isn't there also.

I haven't thought of what I'm going to do yet. Haven't even tried to contact him yet.
I was thinking that he should make a $50 PayPal donation to my favorite website and put my name (psuedonym) up as the author I'd give him permission. What do you think? ;)

Thanks for the heads-up.

I wouldn't hold out any hope of getting a monetary settlement of any kind. The best option is to ask to have the story removed and if you don't get any response, PM Laurel with all the information on your story and any communication you've had with the story thief -- Laurel's lawyer has a lot of experience with cease and desist orders.

Plageurism is something we all have to deal with here at Lit. It happens quite often.

A random websearch will frequently pull up somebody's stories from here that have been ripped off. We all know the procedure now. We write to the owners of the site telling them that they are reproducing copyrighted material (once it's posted here on Lit, we have copyright ) and should remove it forthwith. Provide them with the date you published on lit, as well as a link to the story. Then you need to PM - not e-mail - Laurel with all the information and links and let her deal with it. They deal with this kind of thing all the time.

I really didn't think there could be a money settlement. I was mostly just being silly. (That's what ;)'s are for. Right?)

I'm not really peeved. Like I said above: Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Right? It was more like an "Aw! Shit!" moment than being really pissed.

Judging from the rest of the site, it's probably just some shithead who doesn't know better or really care.

I'll write him an e-mail. Tell him to take my stuff down.

Thanks for the tip about PM'ing Laurel! Wouldn't have thought of that one myself.

Finally, like I said, if he ripped me off the rest of those stories are probably rip-offs too.
Just thought others would like to know so they can go check.

This is *sort* of related...

Everyone always recommends that you google your own titles or excerpts to see if anyone has been ripping your stories off... but when I google my titles and excerpts - even my writing name - I get nothing!

I do not exist on google...

Did you remove the safe search option from google?

If that is set on filtered results you won't find a whiff of porn.

;)

I don;t even know how to turn the safe search *on* :D

*ie - no copy/pasting of my stories etc...

**prize may not comprise of actual prize, merely a suggestion of a prize... a whiff, if you will.

okay first when you click on google search in tiny writing there is advanced search and preferences... when you click on preferences it will let you chose what is okay and what isnt...

And well damn
A Slippery Silent Night is on another site.
Flattering yes... Legal? Hell no

I have asked the site to take it down (space fucker.com)
and I have asked the taker to remove it as well...

I will give him this though - he did credit me as the author... Thats rare it seems...

So I guess that makes me a "real" author now??? heheheheh whatever

Yes you do! I googled 'The Spirit of Althimus Ch.01' and it referenced lit.

I've been plagiarized, too

I did a search on a key phrase out of chapter 1 of "Kim and Me" and lo! there are some squid who've decided to steal the first page or so.

http://www.phone-sex-hotlines.co.uk/britishstory/britishstory1.html

I sent them a note asking them to remove the story. We'll see if they bother.

Addendum: probably the same group have also stolen the entirety of chapter 5 for a manufactured sex blog they're running. That one, I left a comment on the article saying "Hey, go read the whole thing at Literotica." I'll see what happens with both approaches.

your way more advanced than I am in the search

I just googled christabelll + stories and got 23 pages = with only one
"stealer" found.

How'd you do that key word thingie???

What is this porn-a-licious.com/go/182 that shows up when I Google my ID?

It shows a Literotica page inside their frame.

It's a concern if you have publishable material - I'm always looking for stories, but I won't adapt them unless I get the authors permission first - I have somewhat high standards - having more to do with the particular demands of the medium than anything. I've only actually contacted on author who writes some pretty extreme stuff - unfortunatly one of the characters in her story happens to be Superman and I'm not quite sure what kind of risk I might be running there - parody, which it is in a way, is protected, but it more often boils down to who has more money for lawyers.

Fortunately, being a guy and a longtime student of porn, I can pretty much make it up as I go along, but I do prefer to collaborate when I can.

Thing is, I'm looking for stories for practice mainly right now, but if they're good enough, I might try to sell them, and if they're on the internet, as many here have attested to, they're gonna get ripped off, there's almost no question of it, it will happen.

Harder in my case, because I'd have to do an image search, and presumably, anything I get ripped off will probobly end up on a pay site where they're always in a crunch for content.

Bummer, because I like to get feedback, and the sites I belong to that are sequential art oriented also thend to be "all ages" sites where I can't post pornographic/erotic art - more unfortunate still, these are the same people with an eagle eye for spotting rip offs of other members art, so I miss out on that added protection as well.

Ideally, I'd like to put 48 pages or so together and try to get a GN published by Fantagraphics or something, and I don't want a bunch of half assed crap I did for practivce floating around the internet, or worse yet, getting sued for it if I decide to do that Superman piece.

I suppose technically, I can't be sued if I don't make any money off it, I'll have to look into the law on that.

Is it a hotlink to Lit or a copy of Lit's page on their server? If it is the latter, PM Laurel with the details -- Lit's story formatting is copyrighted or trademarked as well as the plagiarism of the story itself.

Hotlinking to Literotica pages inside their frame is a different legal problem and Lit's owners have agreements with some sites to allow that kind of linkage.

That sounds like the kind of thievery Laurel is especialy keen to deal with -- pay sites that use fragments of Lit stories as teasers (false advertising.)

In the case of Superman, any Disney Character, Harry Potter, and several other popular "G-rated" characters, you are very likely to be sued if you publish a moderately successful work that involves them in X-Rated situations or portrays them contrary to the "character canon."

DC Comics, Disney, and JK Rowling are very sensitive about their characters' images and will sue whether you make any money or not.

I guess it's a hotlink, since it leads to a copy of the current "New Stories" page with their frame at the top of the page.

That's probably not something to worry about then -- although letting Laurel know about it wouldn't hurt, I guess.

It's hard to place that kind of copying between misrepresentation and advertisment.

That's kinda what I figured. Fortunately, Harry Potter holds no particular fascination for me, nor do any other copyrighted characters or public figures, and the only reason I considered doing this Superman story is that it's a specific fantasy of the authors.

I can use a doppelganger, won't be quite the same, but definitely safer from a legal standpoint, even if I have no intention of publishing it - the chances of it eventually finding it's way onto the internet are probobly good.
