I listen to songs, and one song that put a story in my head was Jane's Addiction's "Jane Says."

Jane says
I'm done with sergio
He treats me like a ragdoll
She hides
The television
Says 'i don't owe him nothing,
But if he comes back again
Tell him to wait right here for me or,
Try again tomorrow'

'I'm gonna kick tomorrow...'
'I'm gonna kick tomorrow...'

Jane says
'Have you seen my wig around?
I feel naked without it'
She knows
They all want her to go
But that's ok man
She don't like them anyway
Jane says
'I'm going away to spain when i get my money saved
I'm gonna start tomorrow'

'I'm gonna kick tomorrow...'
'I'm gonna kick tomorrow...'

She gets mad
And she starts to cry
Takes a swing but she can't hit!
She don't mean no harm
She just don't know...
What else to do about it

Jane goes
To the store at eight
She walks up on st. andrews
She waits
And gets her dinner there
She pulls her dinner
From her pocket

Jane says
'I've never been in love - no'
She don't know what it is
She only knows if someone wants her

'I only want 'em if they want me,...'
'I only know they want me...'

Jane says...
Jane says...

My story would be that Jane hasn't been completely broken, she's a drug addicted, stripper, prostitute, it would be the last day of her life.

She wakes up in the morning with a drug hangover, with her John from the previous night, who happens to be a bible thumper who went overboard one night a sinning with Jane. She takes the money from his wallet and then goes through various activities through what she doesn't know will be her last day, running into "learning experience" after learning experience, yet she continues to dream of one day leaving it all behind and starting a "Normal life."

Though there would be some sexual content and violence, it's not IMHO what would be considered an erotic story. Sort of a human tragedy thing.

The perspective I'm thinking is either the police detective who arrives at the crime scene and sees evidence which I put in perspective for the cumulation of Jane's life, or from Jane's perspective herself. I'm thinking of starting out with the police perspective, which would give away the ending, then going to Jane's perspective.

I'm male, and have never written a female character, hard to empathize, I figure if I could write female characters and gay male characters with something akin to realistic qualties I'd be a great writer.

I do have visions of being a famous author one day, and I'm thinking of this as an Ice breaker.

Go For It

I myself have found inspiration in song lyrics, but haven't written anything directly related to the lyrics. Have kicked the idea around a bit but haven't moved forward with the idea.

Post the link when you get something finished. I'm interested in reading it.

"When Petey Met Yuri" starts with Iggy Pop's lyrics, and I wrote the first version in response to the song. I have one that never got finished based on Prince's "Lady Cabdriver" (not much of a stretch there)
I write a lot of stories with music as the inspiration!

The Game

Would like to see a story based on this line....

"Tell me exactly
what am I supposed to do?
Now that I have
allowed you to beat me!"

from The Game - Disturbed
