Stop playing with it and it won't get so big

So I am working on my current story and have most of it pretty much finished, just need to clean it up and fill in a few gaps and tighten the ending. The only problem was that the story seemed a little thin. So I decided to toss in a little sub plot to add a little depth, at least I hope thats what I added.

Anyway, what started out as a little filler seems to be taking on a life of its own. The sub story is suddenly become an equal co-story within the story. Now the original story is pretty much done and has not changed much, but I am constantly adding to the second story. I don't think it would work as a separate story and prefer it as one large story but man when will it end!! I should have just stuck with reading. :D

Et tu, Reshbod?

Ha ha, welcome to your mind. Just go with it, even if it means discarading the original thin story. Don't try to figure out your mind, it's simply what your brain does.

cheers, Perdita :)

Don't get me started...

Once upon a time I tried putting in a subplot in a short story, and ended up with a whole damn book with 7 subplots. Good luck. Remember we call them short stories because they are short, and to the point.

The Series starts here

I started with a simple plot. Then the characters took shape, over and umbrage.

So now I have fourteen stories with the same basic characters and outlines for innumerable others.

It won't be a book, it won't be a trilogy, it will be a never-ending saga.

Only a small part is posted on Lit and those are subject to ongoing drastic rewrites as a character takes shape in another episode and wrecks the previous episode because their actions in the earlier version no longer fit the developed character.

Back to the wordprocessor.

Maybe that's what happened to JKR? She started writing a story about a boy who lived with his evil uncle and aunt and cousin, oh, and by the way, he was actually a wizard...:D

Yeppers

As he lovely Perdita says, welcome to your creative mind friend, fun but frustrating aint it.

I too suffer with this at the moment.

I recently finished a short story and was about to post it here, a quick final editing browse has turned into a massive re-write and additions, God knows when it will be finished now, if ever the way it's developing.

Would the original serve as part one to a multi part story in your case maybe??

pops.............:)
