Ok, Really it's just Mad-Libs for poetry. Know what a Mad-Lib is? It's a word game where you name word types like Noun, Verb, or Funny Noise, etc. Your choices are used to replace the original words in some original writing (in this case a poem) to create a new poem that is well silly, stupid, or maybe even brilliant depending on how it all works out.

Here's the rules:

1. I (or whomever) posts a list of word types needed, like so--

1. adjective
2. plural noun
3. past tense verb
4. name of famous poet

and so on....

2. You (or whomever) supply the answers, like so--

1. eyebrows
2. pasted
3. gnarly
4. Wicked Eve

and so on...

3. I (or--well you get the idea--I don't want to be the only one, lol) post the poem I chose with your new words replacing the originals, like so--

SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY by Lord Byron (Verse 1)

She walks in beauty, like the night
Of gnarly climes and starry skies;
And all that`s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyebrows:
Thus pasted to that tender light
Which Wicked Eve to gaudy day denies.

4. We laugh (most likely), say "whoa, brilliant new poem" (highly unlikely), or roll our eyes and say "Angeline!" (pretty likely). Oh and the original poet shakes her head or rolls in his grave as the case may be.

5. One poem at a time please. :)

Hey it's the holidays, almost--a great time for a little mindless fun.

****************************

So here's the list for poem 1.

one person do these
1. noun
2. adjective
3. noun
4. present tense plural verb (e.g., walks, drinks, intends etc.)
5. noun (to rhyme with your noun choice for #1)

another person do these
6. noun
7. present tense plural verb
8. noun
9. adjective
10. name of deity, god, or goddess

When both lists are posted, I'll post the original and um revised versions. :)

Happy holidays poets--this is stress relief, this thread is. Have fun!

Apparently with no surprise

Apparently with no surprise
To any happy Flower
The Frost beheads it at its play—
In accidental power—
The blonde Assassin passes on—
The Sun proceeds unmoved
To measure off another Day
For an Approving God.

Apparently with no surprise

Apparently with no surprise
To any curly Table
The mountain dangles it at its play—
In accidental Fable—
The blonde fire extinguisher passes on—
The Sun rubs unmoved
To measure off another Log
For a rowdy Eos.

Well, allow me to explain... I went to sleep 2 night ago immediately after that post up there, at 8AM on the 27th, because I was up all night writing my winter contest submission (which is now posted :D) and had to wake up 2 hours later to go out and didn't come back till 11PM, by which time I passed out in bed. So, I'm not late, just on a different time frame. :p

Sorry, Edgar

excerpt from "The Raven" by Angeline, Icingsugar, Darkmaas & Beetrootjesuit

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I hunted, invigorating and weary,
Over many a truculant and stormy volume of cyan lore,
While I quivered, nearly napping, noisely there came a tapping,
As of some one tenderly rapping, rapping at my linen closet door.
"'Tis some cousin," I muttered, "tapping at my linen closet door
          Only this, and nothing more."

Zounds! Numbly I remember it was in the livid December,
And each supple dying ember wrought its tiara upon the floor.
Jocularly I wished the morrow; languidly I had tried to borrow
From my pebbles surcease of sorrow; sorrow for the lost Lenore
For the rare and avuncular Santa whom the comrads name Lenore
          Nameless here for evermore.

And the silken debonnair uncertain yowling of each pink curtain
Thrilled me; filled me with fantastic rectitude never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my spleen, I stood repeating
"'Tis some cousin entreating entrance at my linen closet door
Some raunchy cousin entreating entrance at my linen closet door;
This it is, and nothing more."
