Attention all authors. I was browsing other sex story websites and came across http://stories.xnxx.com/ . There I found Jessis "Emails to Amy", Fins "After School", Kross' "Paybacks A Bitch", Tresdandres "Rendevous", TryAnythings "Slut", and scarfaccios "The Short List". These were all stolen off of lit by the same person claiming to write them. I urge everyone to go to http://stories.xnxx.com/ and see if their story is another stolen story. I am researching other stories to see if they are stolen as well but can not do it all. That is why I am asking all authors to please look.

I am not in any way trying to advertise for this site. This site does not even seem to care that there are stolen copyrighted material on their site. Since they have not banned Nikki and removed those stories she claims as her own. If you do believe this to be advertisement please contact Fin, Kross, Tresdandre, TryAnything, Jessi, and scarfaccio to confirm that I am telling the truth.

If you do happen to find your story on the site, please let me know so I don't have to check it and report it to the site. I will update more stolen stories if I find them.

There are some threads on Authors' Hangout on this same subject. I didn't find any of mine but there could be someunder different names. Nobody likes to have this happen and there are remedies.

oooo i didn't know where else to put this thread, so i just did it on here. do you think i should post this also on the authors hangout?

Thank you for posting this!

Please PM Laurel immediately with this information. Include all links.

She will contact the site owners and she will make sure they remove the stories.

Stay vigilant!

:)

I checked. None of mine have been stolen.

How is that supposed to make me feel? My stories are not worth steeling? <sulk>

:( This morning I finished a chore I have been working on for a while. Through googling, I found 36 stories of mine that have been ripped off and sent Laurel the list, including the sites. I'm not sure what she can do about it.

I'm reasonably sure that I didn't find all of them and I am not so vain as to think that my stories are the only ones that get ripped off. An odd thing is that, as I did the googling for phrases in the stories, sometimes I would get responses that said the stories were on Lit, which is to be expected and sometimes I wouldn't. Theoretically, every phrase shold show up as being in a story on Lit. There are many faults in the method but there are good qualities also.:)

stolen....

I just read over the thread, i checked the site listed and none of my work has appeared, but now i am a bit paranoid as my works have been stolen before, the thief was published with MY work and he recieved the glory, it was really painful to see this and i hope that everyone will keep a sharp eye out for their works on other sites, if it is stolen report it to the site where it appears and demand compensation or the story be pulled, it really sux to see your work in print with anothers name, and since it is print, the reminder is always there,

Web-searching for my own stories throws up something interesting. At first it looked like some had been stolen. It turns out only to be the first few paragraphs (searching for later phrases doesn't find anything), and inaccessible -- the address with the sample redirects to a pay porn site.

Also, the content of the story is irrelevant to what it's used on. They stick catch-words like "gay male" or "fucking pussy" randomly into the text. So it looks like they've just snatched any old text in order to fool web searches.

I don't like them pinching any of my stories for this purpose, not one bit, but at least in these cases it's not publishing them and stealing credit.

If you find one of yours appears to be stolen, check for phrases further down in the story.

They are publishing them, though. Not on paper but on the internet. People who go there need to pay to read it and you don't get any of what is paid. Whether there is a byline or not you are still being ripped off.

Well no I don't think they are. I don't understand the strategy, but I think the story doesn't appear anywhere on the site. It's just a few opening sentences that they've stuck in meta tags or something like that.

How do you know that the stuff on xnxx isnt posted by the original author? What does it matter anyway if there is no money involved. I suggest that you beat the theives to the punch and post your stories on xnxx yourself. I post on xnxx and only recently found this site. There are a lot of people that surf that site, i don't know if this site has more?

If someone named "Nikki" is posting the stories there as her own work, but they are posted here under several different "names," there are only two ways to look at it. Either "Nikki" has several different handles here, or she has stolen the stories. What do you think the explanation is?

What does it matter? You can't be serious!!! It matters tremendously! As an author, my work is my work. I don't care if I've never been paid a penny for it, it's still mine, and although I'm sure there are some who just slap down a story in an hour or so, I work very hard to write the best that I can. If someone came along and took it to pass off as their own, I would be highly pissed. What right would anyone have to do that???? Whether you realize it or not, even the stories posted here at Lit have copyright protection, skippy. It doesn't matter whether you've been paid anything for them or not. So, it matters. It matters a lot.

I've only lightly looked over that site, so I'm not an authority on it, nor do I claim to be. However, with the incidence of outright theft that goes on even here, where Laurel does her best to help us out, I really don't think I want to post my stories anywhere else. And, I'm also willing to bet that this site gets a good bit more traffic that most. Another plus is that although there are some stories here that are pure crap, there is also a community of people who honestly care about the stories they write, and I don't see that at most erotic story sites. From what little I've seen at that one, it doesn't even come close to Lit.

My two cents......

I agree, Cloudy. I have looked around some on the site in question and didn't see my name or any story name that I recognized. Even so, there might still be some under a different author's name or by a different story name. I have found at least 36 stories of mine that have been stolen and I PMed Laurel with the list. I haven't heard anything about it since then.

One of the things that bothers me about the pirating is that, although almost all of my stories are about gentle, mutually pleasurable sex, the site will describe it as "brutal rape" or some such thing.

I'm truly sorry about the rant, but attitudes like the one expressed by JohnMorrison get to me like nails on a chalkboard. No wonder people think it's fine to grab something that an author has worked very hard on, and post it elsewhere as their own thoughts, feelings, and expression. Just the thought of someone saying "what does it matter" pisses me off like you wouldn't believe.

I was just saying that it is your work, but you put it on one internet site. Does it really matter if another internet site puts it up too? I know you the author didn't choose to put it on that site, but your story is now getting to more people. I don't understand why someone would steal a story like that. But think about it, if the theives steal stories, there aren't many places they can submit them to, so why not submit on xnxx. I started on xnxx and have gotten lots of really good feedback, they don't have message boards and vol editors, but i have talked to several people that found my stories on the site, and two of them have helped me with my stories. The only thing i really don't like about that site, is the abundance of incest and other weird stories, and they get very high ratings too.

If I choose to put it up on another site, I suppose that's my choice. What I objected to was your assumption that it didn't matter if someone took another's work and posted it as their own because "more people are reading my work." Hello??? If someone has posted it as their own, then no one knows it's mine, do they? And someone else is basically taking credit for the work that I've done. Since that kind of thing doesn't seem to bother you at all, I'll send you my address and you can send me your paycheck every week.....how about that? Doesn't matter if you're the one that actually did the work, after all.

What? You don't like that idea? Well, here's a newsflash - stealing someone else's writing is the exact same thing.

That's theft, pure and simple, and it will always be wrong. There's absolutely no way you can ever justify it.

And you say you write stories yourself? If so your attitude truly baffles me.

I've had quite a few of my stories stolen and posted on other sites. I always search for them, I always report the thieving sites to Laurel, and it is always taken care of.

Copyright infringement is no small matter. You won't get much support for your views in the Author's Hangout on Lit, I'm afraid.

And, as for your assertion that your work being posted on other sites without your permission gets it out to more people?

I just sold several of my stories. THAT'S the way in which I want to get my work out to more people.

You go, girl!

And, congrats, by the way....just in case I haven't already said it. :rose:

I think you already have but thank you again!

(I'm still doing cartwheels!) :)

Im just saying that if there is NO money involved, what does it matter. And your paycheck analogy doesnt work, since you dont lose money from someone posting it on another site. If they do steal your story, just e-mail the webmaster of the site they post it on and tell them that the person stole it. I am a writer, and i would be mad if someone stole my story, and made money off of it. But if they just put it on another free site, what does it really matter? Maybe i just don't think its a big deal because my stories haven't been stolen, maybe i will change my mind if that happens.

Okay, I'm going to speak v-e-r-y s-l-o-w-l-y for you....

It matters because it's called "copyright infringement," get it?

IT'S ILLEGAL!!!!!

That's why it matters.

downloading music is copyright infringement to, but most people do that.

But that doesn't make it right. And I wouldn't say "most", not by a long shot.

Sorry to butt in here, but I just have to.

Most of us here at Lit - yourself included, I am sure - pride ourselves in our writing and work hard to make our stories as good as possible. Not often blood sweat and tears, as such, but it's often a labour of love.

We wrote those stories, they belong to us - they are our property to do with as we please. It is up to us to decide where, or if, they get published.

It just smarts a bit when somebody comes along to Lit (or sends bots) and rips off stories, sometimes wholesale, purely for the benefit of themselves. They quite often use our stories as fillers on often trashy porn sites.

Yes, and they are being prosecuted for it.

But that has nothing to do with this.

There are reasons a site will take stories. They are attempting to attract viewers, more counts, ad surfers, web traffic, or even to get people to join their site. That is how they can make money off our hard work even when there is no money involved.

The point is, it doesn't belong to them. They have no right to take it without asking.

And it is illegal.

It's not always the site. Sometimes somebody will copy a story from this site and post it on another site and claim it as his own. I had one story, "We Swank It Up with Pamela", that was stolen by two persons who posted to another site that is similar to this one. I don't know why they did this but I contacted the webmaster and told him about it. He emailed me that he had deleted the stories and apologized for the theft.

This is the site if anybody wants to look for anything there.
