Good morning. :)

I just want to touch base with many of you who are familiar with all thats going on with me, because its easier than continuing to attempt PM's, etc. My computer is still doing what it has been doing every morning since Sunday. I did the defragging, the scan disk, all of it, and still, I have been attemting to do ANYTHING at all online since 6 am. amd have only managed 3 pm's. :( I am at my wits end..with everything else, well...its just...ugh.

With regard to last night, I am OK... it's just a waiting game.

Laurel, I just want to tell you that when I first posted the comment about everything NOT being removed from his post, I was very upset and panicking; it occured to me later that what was left was damaging, but an easier remedy would be for me to remove my State from my location, so thats what I did, versus seeking further assistance from you. When I get my computer in decent shape, and can spend the time doing a search, I will determine if there is more that needs editing elsewhere...thank you so much for your help.

I will be scarce today because it is my son's 13th birthday, and I have to do some shopping and other stuff, plus try to save my computer, if such a thing is possible. Just realizing my first born is now 13, 5'9, 145 lbs and wears a man's size 14 shoe is enough to do me in. :(

If anyone comes across anything with regard to last nights posts that needs editing, please report the post for me. I just don't have the ability to do it myself right now...thank you very much.:rose:

I hope everyone is having a beauty of a day!:)

I'm sorry you're going through whatever it is you're going through. I have no idea what it is but it has to suck. :(

I wish I knew how to help you with your computer problem but I totally suck at fixing these things long distance. I'm kick ass with a computer when I'm sitting in front of it.

How much disk space do you have left?

once again a question or two:

what browser do you use and version? (click on 'help' on top of your browser then 'about')

what speed are you connected at? (2x on the little tiny comp icon on the bottom right of your screen, hopefully it is there)

Do you recall anything happening on or about the time of the system slowing down? change any settings? add new programs? kids messed around with it? anything?????

:(

What is wrong with your puter?? I'm new here, but I'm a computer tech and might be able to help you.;) Hope your situation gets better.

Hi, Intrigued. I'm not sure exactly what is going on with the problem you allude, but I hope that gets sorted out for you. Sorry to hear about that trouble.

As regards your computer, it sounds like your problem is there some of the time, but not all of the time. Some folks yesterday suggested there could be a problem with your internet provider, and I'm wondering if you explored that possibilty? You might try that.

Also, have you tried running any non-internet based program on your computer? Are those running ok?

Anyhow, enjoy your son's birthday, and have a good day! :)

Happy Birthday to your son intrigued!! I know how you're feeling, I have a 13 year old also ....... they grow too fast, don't they??

The first spare moment you have, PM me Sweetie. OK??

I'm thinking of you and sending out all the hugs and good thoughts I can.

Intrigued, whatever happened last night I'm glad it's over, though it'd be less confussing if you could explain, without giving away the info you wanted private what it was.

As to your computer, you should call a technician. Plain and simple. If you don't know enough about them to fix the problem you could very well make it worse. The same goes for having someone help you online who isn't familiar with your system.

Having it fixed by a pro will cost you less in the long run. Trust me, this is what my husband's company does and you'd be amazed how many times a tech says "If they'd just called us to begin with we could have been in and out in 20 minutes instead of 2 hours".

Is this chick a perpetual victim or just likes saying poor me over and over.

Get off your ass, get off the computer and get a damn job.

If a defrag didn't work, and scandisk didn't pick up anything, then it may be time for a reinstall of Windows. If that still doesn't work, then you may need to try a clean install of Windows, or format the HD and start over.

To reinstall Windows:

1) Check to see if you have a directory called "CABS" on your Hard Drive. If you don't, then make a directory called CABS, and copy all the files in the \Windows98 directory on your CD into the CABS directory on your Hard Drive.

2) Go into the CABS directory, and double-click on Setup (Setup.exe) and follow the directions from there.

Installing from the CABS directory is faster, and because all your setup files are on the PC, you won't be prompted to enter your Windows 98 CD again.

** If you don't already have Norton's Systemworks, it's a good idea to pick up a copy. WinDoctor can be a lifesaver when it comes to identifying and correcting problems in Windows and on your PC.

I hope this may help some.

good

to see you survived all the problems, hope the computer problem gets better , as you know there are alot of us here that would miss you if your gone, hope you have a good day with your son on his birthday!!!!:) :rose:

I hope that everything is working out for you intrigued..And a Hsppy 13th to your son..a teenager now

I beg to differ sunstruck. I've helped countless people fix their puter's over the net. You only need a tech about 30 percent of the time. And that's only to fix something, as most things are easily replaced by the user.

So true Bob. Especially for users that just point and click.:)

Thanks again everyone...for those that don't know of my computer ails, I have a thread "Please, I cannot take it any longer" that I posted yesterday that has the whole long story in it...I would link you, but it would take me forever, I'm sorry. Mostly its pages taking a very long time to load, but usually they load about half way, and then stop. I refresh repeatedly, to no avail. I have been kicked offline 3 times also, I just lose my connection . Honestly, I have been trying since 6 am...I cannot get Yahoo to load to do my email...it will get me to my inbox, and then either give me "page cannot be displayed" or just not load at all.

JB...does 31,200 bps mean anything of value to you? Is that what you are asking? MY browser is IE, 6.0

I have to go now, but please, any assistance that anyone offers is so much appreciated. :rose:

Thanks Trish, I just scrolled down and saw your little burst of sunshine!:) Hon, I have to get out the door, but as soon as I can fight my PMs, I will write you, OK?
I really needed to hear from you....thanks dear. :rose:

Orwell....hi there!:) I suppose it could be my ISP, but with such regularity? I mean, this is every morning, for about 4-5 hours. Its almost as though it needs to warm up, because all of a sudden, everything is fine again.
Thanks for your words of kindness...its a very long story, maybe I can catch up with you another time, OK? :)

Gotta go!

What a trauma. Now you can take care of your kids and look for job instead of whining on line all day.

Man I hate posting after unregistered people....

Anyways, Yahoo has been down for a short bit, so that isn't a problem with your computer Intrigued.

She's been having trouble for a while and many people have tried to help her. I'm just speaking from expirience.

I just so admire people that take pot shots and belittle others as "unregistered". (Like I don't have a HUGE clue who it is!)

Unregistered, i will be happy to address you blow by blow, once you ID yourself and speak to me in a manner any other decent human being would. However, I will say this much....

Yes, it is traumatic to have another member post the county in which I live here on the internet for any and all to see. Especially considering I have had my state listed in my location since I joined this site. This is a blatant violation of my privacy, and I did the only thing I could possibly do from a computer, I sought the assistance of a mod to remove the information from his post.

My computer problems, while stressful, are not traumatic. The reason they are stressful is that they have gone on for months, they are beyond my ability to comprehend, and when I followed the excellent advice given by many kind people who don't mind lending a hand to others, I still had the same problems. Yes...this is very stressful. I do not like asking others to help me, but I do not have the knowledge to do any more than my Tech Support had already instructed me to do, they were simply out of ideas. I see many other people here asking for help, but for some reason it is offensive to you when *I* do so....hmmm......

As for your lovely and encouraging words with regard to my employment endeavors, you are not worthy of a reply on something so personal, and something of which you know nothing. Tell me, are you video taping me, bugging my phone, and reading my mail? Please, atleast offer something of merit, maybe possibly something constructive when you feel the need to tell someone else what to do, God......

Oh, I will make your day for you though....rest assured, my time at Lit is drawing to a close.

For the rest of you, thanks for all the advice, I'll work on it when I am done with my birthday plans, and thanks very much for the well wishes, I will pass them on to him. :)

Intruiged,
As a bandaid approach, try NOT turning off your computer at night. Mine stays on 24/7/365 and it is not a big deal.

If she has an older puter, the cooling fan could go out though. They didn't make them as good then as they do now. Old computers should not be left on 24/7, eventually your going to overheat something. JMO:)

Holy shit!

It's only connecting at 31,200??

Sounds like a ISP, phone lines or modem problem to me.

And to think.. I was bitching when I was connected at 53,333..

Well, I personally think she has undergone "Window's decay"....I don't know the last time her system was thoroughly checked, but if Windows isn't repaired or reinstalled every so often, you get a lot of corrupted system files. Over time, even though Windows will continue to work, you will get very sluggish performance.

I would ask:

1) When is the last time some serious system maintenance was done?

2) When is the last time the HD was formatted?

3) When is the last time Windows was reinstalled? clean installed?

She may not have Windows decay, but it sure sounds like it to me.
