Inhumanity. Boo mentioned that she'd like to see a new challenge and then also reminded us of the anniversary of an event that shook the foundations of reality forever after. Just as the WTC horror reshaped our naive attitude of laissez-faire, so too, did the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki destroy a world full of innocents. I see this as a difficult subject to struggle through but I also have a voice inside me screaming in outrage.

Rwanda, Cambodia, Tibet, Bosnia... back through time, Hitler, Mussolini, the Czars, slavery -- there's always that.

Words must be said, poems must be written.

I think you can submit earlier and ask, using the Notes field of the submission page, for it to be posted on the 7th. At least you can do that with stories. :)

PS: I'm in. :rose:

I'm in.

Perhaps

Same thing as Bluesky... might be out of scope those days.

I'm glad to see that there are others who wouldn't mind an intense poetry exercise. I find writing about these subjects almost cathartic, breaking some of the wires that tie my emotions up. Hopefully, it will free a deluge of quality... or maybe ;) a flood of crap, at any rate, even one decent poem will be enough. Welcome to Inhumanity.

P.S. I always fill in the notes field with the posting date, saying ...

This poem is a response to the Same Title Challenge, <title here>, on the feedback forum, to be posted on the <date here>. Thank you.

Most of the time it works.

P.S.S. to Lauren: Your moderatin' skills are required in a gunfight :p

Count me in, although I have such fun planned for that week I will find it hard to get my mind in a dark place. Guess I better start writing now.
I think this challenge should produce some stunning work.

oh man, I will try. Good challenge.

I wrote one on the massacre of Mai Lai, (sp?) which was taking place as I was being born on the other side of the world.

Maybe I will go back there. I think I wrote it in 7th grade.

OK, I'm game.

I'll give it a shot, if only for the work on writing in a less egocentric manner. Everything can't be about me or I'm gonna run out of things to say.

I can already feel that I will either love or despise the result.

Oh! I'm definitely in. I have a few already shaping up. The dark side seems to be where my images come from.

Thanks, Champ!

*le sigh*

Am I the only one getting depressed as hell simply trying to choose one of the incomprehensible horrors we have unleashed upon each other? Even after limiting myself to recent history?

No, Min... you're not. I'm having a terrible time.

Heres something I wrote just noodlin tho, while I was pondering... Should I throw it out?

"Nestled in her leafy bower
she watched as the great Eye
rose in the east. A shower
woke her mate and he

motioned for her to follow.
Gathering her young in her arms
her heart fearfully hollow
she began her descent.

They gathered at the river
mostly aunts and sisters
and led by the old silver
backed male. The twisted

path led to the stream bank
where, breakfast eaten, the
... "

and I fizzled.

I get depressed without even trying to choose, so that makes choosing a little easier. Just a little though. :(

I find writing something about horror helps to free up the clogged emotion channels. The tears and stomach upset serve as a purgative and when I finally finish, the entire process is completely cathartic.

Boo, the atmosphere in your Diane Fossey poem is extraordinary.. keep going, please.

LOL Champ... I have been reworking it- it seems to want it to be long and I want it to be a shorter piece. Diane Fossey is close but it's actually much much earlier. Picture Donald Johanssen's Lucy instead. My character has the gift of sight, and knows they were much safer in the trees but her 'man' has made a decision and she has to follow. Hence Man's first act of cruelty to Mankind... to leave a life of simple known pleasure to live upright in a world of danger and strife. I see it and feel it but I'm having trouble putting it to words.

But hey! Thanks for the vote of confidence. I need all I can get!

So do I, usually. I think my problem is that in the past anger has been just as strong in me as sorrow and grief. this time the abject hopelessness I feel drowns out the rest. I've spent hours staring at the blank screen and blank page (depending on my whereabouts) and I just find myself sinking further and further until I'm numb.

Sorry for the whining, all, I'm just frustrated as hell.

Oh Min... don't feel alone! I have read of such horrors for 40+ years. (My 1st read was the Bio of Adolph Eichmann when I was 10- my Mom didn't believe in censorship, thank god) But this time I'm stumped. Blank. Empty. And really bummed out about it!

Hang in, Kid... we'll do it! :rose:

I think I am going to be cranky tomorrow....(pondering)

Do you find it works better to schedule it? I'll have to try that. ;)

Thanks, Boo. :rose:

Echoes, I'm jealous. That's nothing new, though. :D

This could be difficult.

Stare into the abyss? O.K. I'll try to write something...but.... Hmmmm, this is a challenge that I would want to write something...good. I would hate to write something that was even remotely cliche. I shall not promise to post, but I will try.
