Okay, here's how this works.

This is a Same Title Challenge. The title will be Sleeping and Waking.

Entries are due no later than the NINTH of JUNE. Ideally, UYS can then print them out in some form and have all of our work and attention and wishes along as Ron goes into surgery. Attention is energy, and paying attention to a graceful sleeping and waking process for Ron WILL make a difference. Wouldn't it be cool if his hospital room could be wallpapered with kind, true poems that lend him energy as he recuperates?

I'm not going to get all legislative with this. Contribute as you can, as you like, as often and as well as you can. No commitment necessary.

Who's in?

abracadabra and similar sentiments,

Sorry but the hospital have scuppered your deadline they have brought the operation forward to the 28th May ... sorreeeeeeeeeee

no worries. i'm still on it.....just pop a battery in my back and i'll be good to go:):)

Sleeping and Waking

fear has no blanket in this bed
only welcome dreams of comfort
bless your rest

pain finds no welcome in this room
only clarity of pain-free vision
moves through the door

love waits your waking
her smile brightens corners
where fear and pain lurk
keep them at bay

Sleeping & Waking

Drift into peaceful sleep and see the dream unfold. The dream is of distant beams of light.
These beacons beckon you from across the pond, currents flowing from all over the world. Threads stretched and multiplied, the very fibers of our being embrace you in warmth and love.

Awaken from beautiful slumber to feel the strength of unseen hands and hearts.
Extended family doesn’t swim in your gene pool, but walks by your side, so you never walk alone. Enveloped in a quiet grace, it is with grace you will dance.

:heart::kiss::heart:

Sleeping & Waking

Souls at work while your body rests
We flit about, even behind closed lids
Walking cosmic corridors, mission for a friend
Angels unified in thought and prayer
Emanating light to shine on your path
As you high step your way to fighter’s stance
Her light and hope shines in your eyes
The lamp to your feet, she will guide your new steps

*goes away to have a think* but right now I don't get it and if don't how do I explain it to Ron? Would someone point me in the right direction please?

We paint our prayers
together, swirl many hues
of hope in this dance
of words kaleidoscopic,
patterned in a quilt
of commonality, our energy
enlaced, threads joined
brilliantly until we cover
him in poetry. Sleep gently
in the shimmer of your dreams.
Wake gently as the sunlight
streams about you.
Lech l'shalom.

Sorry, Spell ... I'd venture to say I didn't read the direction very closely, so please don't feel I was being flippant (yes, despite the name, I can be sensitive). I saw the title, and what I presented here is just what came out. Trust me, I won't be at all offended that you don't want to use it.

My prayers are with you and your family.

Again, my apologies,

Take care,

David

Sleeping and Waking

Sleep tight and think not
of those things rummaging
through the dollhouse of night:
Chain gangs of foxes mining
trash. A quartered moon leering
at the undressing city. The late
night bus fumbling through dark
like a mole. Wake and read
what they wrote on your skin
when you slept. This poetry
is yours alone.

Sleeping and Waking

Sleep soft, my dearest man.
I wait, awake for you to return.
The hours spent by your side
Send healing thoughts your way,
Send precious good vibrations
To carry you through and back to me.
If it could not be me instead,
To bear the burden of this night
I'll not sleep till you wake,
Keep the dangers from your bed,
Hold them off, make them wander
Somewhere other than here.
Sleeping there, you fight your fight,
While I, awake, whisper words
To myself, to you,
To the beast itself,
And to the higher source,
To see you through this time
And bring you back to me.

You guys are the tops and I don't know how to thank you enough but I tell you this it's goose bump time too .. I was going to pen one of my own about not sleeping myself till he wakes again!

Sleeping and Waking

Don't worry that you don't dream
of me; I'll be here when you wake.
The slumber of not knowing takes
you deep where sugar cakes and cream
swirl inside your coffe cup with steam
seduction tickling your nose, open
your eyes and see how I smile and then
know I love you even more than it may seem
to be when my impatience dulls the beam
of sunshine casting light upon your pain.
For then my guilty heart will always remain
yours to guide as a coachman steers a team
to a stable where nourishment and rest
heals the weary and love will sleep invest.

Sleeping & Waking

Sleep to the lullaby of her heartbeat
Drumming sweetly for your ears alone
Wrapped in the melody of your song
Be not disturbed by the cares of the world
Orion in her sky of darkest nights, by day
Celestial brilliance that rivals the sun
Waking, you shed light on her world
Together you radiate the luminosity of one

:rose:

Counting into it, step
over the threshold with two
feet lifted and you've come into the room
with no walls, just breathing.
Under eyelids you paint trees
from the steady hiss of lungs
and there friends sit, ankles dangling
whispering what you knew:
that you are not alone, they have waited
for you to notice. This is why
the trees seem to laugh at your jokes,
at the peek-a-boo gown. Love
remains. Finally it is this
that pulls you back, love
touching your thin sleeve
caring for your dry mouth
and waiting for you on this side, too.

Hi Annie,

I know tomorrow is fast approaching and I'd like to let you know that Ron and you are high on my list of good thought recipients. You'll be able to spend as much time by your hubby's bed as you wish, but don't forget to take care of yourself.

Last summer I was at the bedside of my relative who had surgeries lasting over 2 hours every other day as they attempted to rescue a right arm that was beyond saving. It's too easy to forget and neglect our nourishment and fluid uptake while we worry about them. Drink lots of water!

They won't let anything happen without you, darling. Take the time Ron's asleep to eat a little, pray a little and nap, A LOT. Are they considering an epidural? That's sometimes a better route than a general anesthetic simply because the patient can be in charge of their own breathing. ...

Blessings on you both. Here's to a happy jig in a month or two... you won't be able to keep up with him after surgery, y'know. :p. :nana:

Ron doesn't know how frightened I am it's mostly you guys I have told and now I don't even know if I can visit him that much as I won't be able to drive and it's up to his brother who is in his 80s how many times he can take me in as it isnt a close hospital ... his first family don't look as if they are going to make the effort and I won't beg and get a refusal. He has the operation sometime Wednesday afternoon and I expect I shall be on here way into that night probably playing games so I don't have to think or dream if I sleep. Worry gives me dreadful dreams

He had an Epidural twice before when they were hoovering out his knee, the first time was fine and he had little if no pain afterwards but the second time he was paralysed from the waist down for longer than was expected and he had to be kept in hospital for 3 days I think it was and then had a lot of pain afterwards which he never really got over and then they decided on the new knee

Sleeping and Waking

Under and over the waking world
the rainbow serpent coils
through the Dreamtime
and guides you
toward visions more real than real.

Listen, look: you are seeing the beginning
of the world, when the dreaming serpent
imagined the creation
and out of night brought the sun,
brought fat-bellied frogs
and sweeping trees
and the kicking beasts
and the ways we sing
to one another in the dark.

travel the songlines across this landscape
the silver rivers and sacred stones
painted with spirals, the crossroads
where Baiame teaches boys
to be men. It is his doorway
you reach, and enter
to wake to this place again.

Whisper his name
and come through
a boy to a man
a man to a new man
a man to a new man
and on for the years
more, before, with a start
you awaken at last.
