State-Specific Forum Categories?

I think creating state-specific categories would be a good idea for those wanting to chat with a more local group of people.

Would that be possible?

In the Playground - as I'm sure in other forums - there are state, region, and country specific threads. While two (UK and the Aussie threads) are fairly popular, most of them sort of fizzles or are posted in sporadically, so you may want to check those out.

I am not sure, however, if sub-forums are worth it, though, but I'm sure someone will have a better answer.

i'm reasonably certain that having locale-based forums isn't a good idea in most parts of lit. a lot of the forums don't have enough participants to sustain the idea and it would likely lead to fragmenting of sparsely-populated forums even further.

Agreed. The other thing I wonder is how much of a pain in the ass it'd be for the site owners. I'm sure creating the boards would be relatively simple, but then you have to find people to monitor each board and not many want THAT thankless task.

IRC, it took a bit of lobbying just to get the Fetish Board. It took off like gangbusters, but then it seems like there was a large segment of Litsters that were backing it. It would seem that there needs to be a pretty compelling reason to create sub forums for the owners to go through the hassle.

In the age of the internet, state specific forums would kind of be a waste of time unless you are talking about personals forums. The interaction from here, there, and everywhere adds a lot to the discussions and if there were say, a forum specifically for Wyoming, it might not get enough action to keep it alive and those people may leave altogether when now they can be just as loud a voice as from anywhere. Sorry Wyoming. I didn't really mean to pick on you.
