Um... Hi. Just popping over from the Author's Hangout where I posted this thread... they suggested this might be a good place to garner support...?

Anyway... here is the post:

Primark stocked them last year, proper steel-boned ones that pulled you in and up and were delicious. FOR EIGHT POUNDS. Stupidly I didn't buy two of every colour like I should have and they don't seem to stock them this year. I just e-mailed Primark to ask them to bring them back this year... Please will as many of you as possible e-mail them too, expressing interest in their corsets... Perhaps we can bring them back by popular demand.

If I get hold of a Primark corset I solemnly swear to post a picture of me wearing it...

ps- I have a burlesque costume to create and no suitable corset to wear. This is an emergency.

they don't serve the US as far as i can tell, not to mention, have you ever tried making a corset? I don't blame people for asking at least 100 dollars for a good one after tying to make my own.

While I can't swear to their quality, Pink Label Corsets has some pretty nice looking ones for $68 or so. I'm planning on buying one from there, as soon as my budget recovers from having to buy new clothes for my children after growth spurts hit.

i think i fell in love with the idea of wearing a corset when i was little and was taken to a rennisance fair.... i definitly want to find an affordable nice one!!

Done. i emailed them.

They probably don't make any that fit me... but if it will help you to get one... good enough. No reason we both should suffer without a corset.

my Master has been looking for a decent corset for me and has never found one..... we've looked in a number of places.. have tried a few on at fetish vending fairs etc... but unless He wants to hand over BIG $$$ to have one custom made to fit my very slight figure.... i might never have one. They don't make them in my size normally. i don't fit the corsets that have built in cups aka bras... i need one of those (damn i forget what they are called at this moment) push ups? shelf corsets? i dunno what they are called right now <insert brain fart here> </end brain fart>

Good thing is that i HAVE gained 10 pounds since quitting smoking... and am still, slowly but surely, gaining MORE..... If the new pounds would shift from my ass thighs and hips .... and land upon my breast bones.... i'll be out of this pickle... and wearing a corset for the first time ever. Other good thing is: We have someone who makes corsets who has said she will make one for me... if i agree to model them for her site. Pfft.... looks like i'll be doing some more modeling. i am like double the FUN! i win times 2! --i like posing for photos and discovered recently that if i can be naked or half naked i like it even MORE. Yeee Haa!! :nana: (we need a corset sporting banana here :p )

Meschantes Meschantes Meschantes.

Her underbust basics start at like, 130 something? She's the favorite of many serious tightlacers. She made H's waist training corset. If she can fit a 56 year old male engineer she can fit girls.

No doubt...
If i could get one for 8 pounds or so though..... even better. ---Because then i'd be getting more than one.. you can bet! :)

*Serious pout*

There are times I hate living at the bottom of the world. Mind you, they probably wouldn't fit me either. I suffer from ... erhmm topheaviness. Somehow I got the wrong tits - mine belong on a 6ft Amazon, not a 5ft 4 hobbit.

Yep.. to the whole world i LOOK like a 32A.. but on the inside i am packing 36DD s .... :nana:

Sinn, you're looking for an underbust corset. Naturally slender people (or those who haven't given birth eleventy-million times... ahem) need to look for an underbust that is *not* designed for "curvy" figures- in other words you can waer a shorter length corset than I, but generally speaking, underbusts are fantabulous. I got my latest one from www.versatilecorsets.com (thanks to Etoile for the recommendation), and I *love* it. I got the Chelsea in silver chinese silk brocade (lovely for those curves), on sale for $258 (with shipping). The customer service is awesome, as well- my corset was tagged a 22", but measured a 24"- they answered emails right away, and redesigned the corset to the proper size for me, at no additional cost (other than shipping), with a turn around of less than a week. I'm already dreaming of what I'll do with a custom one when I can afford it. LOL

I had an underbust trainer by Meschantes for about 6 months, but it never fit properly, they sent laces that were too short for the corset, and the front steel snapped after about 6 months of daily wear. :(

My sister is teeny tiny (size 6 UK, so what's that in the States? 4? 2?) and we found a corset for her at Primark. I had to take it in over the hips, a little, but it fits really well otherwise and gives her a great cleavage with what little she has. Think she's got a 25 inch waist...? Anyway... it is possible Sin00cent...

I'll let you know if they get any in :D

I think we're sisters in figure. I too am a 5'4" hobbit with the breasts of an Amazon and yes, they looked like jelly on a plate when I tried the corset on last year, but I figured out that if I sewed on a bit of extra lace then I could prevent unfortunate accidents... except that they stopped selling them. <pout>

ps- 36DD is no fun. Gives you back ache, you can't find tops to fit and all your bars look like industrial equipment. No strappy tops or strapless dresses. Wanna go halves on mine so we both end up C cups?

I'm a bit top heavy myself so i can't do victorian or edwardian style corsets, they tend to flip down on me. I do wear renisaince style corsets. They have straps built into the corset, like a renisaince bodice.

Like Amm said, good training corsets are expencive for a reason. Enough steel boning alone to properly bone a training corset costs me around $8 plus the shipping.

I bought my first corset at Fredericks of Hollywood. Now this was in no way ment to be a training corset, but I did wear it almost everyday. It was nice and I'm just now at the point of thinking about recycling the boning in it. It's not ment for tight lacing, hell it's not even ment for every day wear, but I did get well worth my $60 out of it.

If this is just for a costume, then you may not need a heavy duty corset. Tho I would recommend you stick to one with steel boning. Even the heavy plastic that I use for bodices after an hour tends to take shape and hold, so if you sit too long you end up with the bottom of your corset bubbling.

if you're really desperate, try ebay. There are a lot of costumers on there who normally do ren fairs. Been thinking about putting my own "custom sewing" add up there but just don't have the energy right now. Besides i kinda like the freedom to make what I want and the post it.

I don't mean to sound like a corset snob, but I wouldn't touch an £8 corset with a 10-foot pole. Even the cheapest of cheap "corset" tops start at about $30-50, which is about £15-25. And those are going to have plastic boning and probably also stretchy fabric. I would be extremely suspicious of anything under $75 (£38) and probably of anything under $100 (£51).

Even Vollers, which is a cookie-cutter factory operation is more expensive than that, although I wouldn't wear a Vollers either. Actual handmade corsets will be even more expensive. That's just the way it is. Materials + labor = expensive, period.

That said, if anybody is looking for a proper corset, I know lots and lots of places to start. Timeless Trends is quite reasonable, she is on eBay. She only makes one style, and it's an underbust, but her prices are good. If you know of a corsetiere but don't know they're reputation, I can probably tell you what they're like.

Sorry if I come across snobby in this...proper corsets are something very dear to me and I hate to see someone wearing something unhealthy.

no no - I agree with you. I thought I'd have to pay at least fifty quid to get anything worthy of the name corset which was why these £8 ones were such a bargain and why I was *so* stupid not to get one in every colour when I found them. I am not a skinny girl in any way shape or form but I laced myself into this thing and it didn;t flip forward, it pulled my waist in, gave me shape and wasn;t stretchy or flimsy feeling in any way. I was thrilled. Why oh why didn;t I buy ?
Stupid Vermilion

Ebay I found something that looked great but it turned out to be complete Sh*t. flimsy, stretchy, badly boned, badly finished appalling.
Every time I think ebay can;t be as bad as I remember and buy something it always ends up reminding me why I think ebay is bad.

Yeah, but...that's what I'm saying. How could something that cost £8 possibly be a quality corset? The steel boning alone should be at least £2.50, and that's leaving out the tips, the bone casing, the busk, the grommets, the lacing...I just don't see how it's possible. I know companies buy in bulk and all, but...it just doesn't sound realistic to me.

I've never had a problem with ebay. I love it! But then I make it a rule not to buy from anyone with less than 1000 sales and less than 97% positive feed back. (so I wouldn't buy from myself if I saw me because I only have 41 sales and 100% positive feedback).

You really have to look for key words. If it doesn't say steel boning, don't assume it is. and if it's velvet, asume it's panne unless stated otherwize. There are some good ones there that make good strong training corsets. I, admitedly, am not one of them. But then I sell bodices and don't try to pass them off as corsets. Vests maybe, corsets never.
