I am recently eighteen, very fresh to the site, legally, but have been reading for quite a while now. I begun to write story stories and done some very in depth role-playing with my girlfriend. She is very encouraging in my writing and is willing to help me in any way she can. That having been said, I would like to ask some of the writers, or even the readers out there for some advice or tips that might help me get a story or two published on the site. If you've bothered to read this far, I'd atleast like to know you stopped by and took the time, post and talk to me maybe?

Hello Nicholas, i wish you well in your writing. i too am still new though i've been reading here for years. i've met alot of wonderful people here. people are always willing to help including me. my hand is always out in friendship. i been writing a long time but have only published poems. good luck, looking forward to reading your work.

Thank you very much for the well-wishing. I've written some rather racey stories, msotly for my girlfriend though. She says she thoroughly enjoys them. I'm not sure if it's because she's fairly new to erotic literature or because of my writing ability. I'd like to think a bit of both.

But thank you very much phoenixangel, I'll also be looking forward to reading a story or two of yours. Right after I finish your poems. [:

I've only written one story thus far, but I've edited countless others. And that's my main advice to you: Make good use of the resources here (and elsewhere, if necessary) and edit, edit, edit!

There's so much for writers here on the board, in the Writers Resources and How To sections of the main site, in very skilled volunteer editors and beta readers, etc., that there's no reason to feel lost, alone or put out less than your very best work for people to enjoy. So, definitely take advantage of what Lit and the web have to offer you as an author! :)

Mostly there are two things you have to worry about to get your story posted to literotica. You have to have the spelling correct and you either have to say the ages when the character is in doubt on age, or make them indeterminate aged.

Less known is the fact that the editors can and will on occassion call your grammatical errors into play for rejecting you. Usually best to find an editor, there are many around, simply start a thread in the editor's forum and hopefully you will get at least one offering to edit for you.

Also take a look around somewhere there is a listing of the rules on stories that can be accepted and those that will never be accepted. Best to learn those before you do a masterpeice of dog and woman sex or something equally not gonna be here. ;)

Thank you Erika, I think becoming a beta reader would require more time and dedication than I can really put forth at this time. As a college student, my stories take a while because I'm busy with multiple different things. Thanks for the advice though Erika, I'll make sure to put it to good use. [:

Thank you too, emap.
As much as everybody loves the dog and woman stories, I'll try to stay away from those.
And I will look into that list of things, it would suck to write a whole story, on any topic and have it be rejected cause I didn't read.

Thank you everyone for the advice.

I meant get yourself beta readers to give you feedback on your work before you submit it. Anyone who enjoys the subject matter and is willing to give you solid constructive criticism can beta read for you, so maybe your gf can be one and you can pick up a couple more here in Story Feedback or the Editors Forum. I found Lit friends (both readers and authors) to be the best for a variety of reasons, but your mileage may vary.

nicholas, you might do well to poke around on the author's hangout or the story ideas forum if you're looking for test readers.

if you've been reading, you're already familiar i presume with the various lit categories. i suggest that when you're ready to submit your story (and the approval process usually takes around 1 week before you hear anything), give some thought to which category and understand the kinds of loopy comments you might get: the loving wives category in particular appears to attract some very strange comments.

What he said.

Also, what I did was that I had several authors who were published on Lit multiple times to read over my work and to offer insight. It helped me to tailor my writings better to my target audience.

my advice, jump right in.

Make sure that your stories are interesting, spelling is correct, and then just submit them.

It does help to have someone else look over them first.

Unfortunately, I have not yet found that one person I can trust completely to proof read but you seem to have your girlfriend so that is a start.

You will also get feedback on your stories. Read them and really pay attention to what they say. If you get some negative feedback, don't take it to heart. Let that challange you to write better. Positive feedback is good and let that fuel you to do better.

Lastly, what is your motive for writing here. For your pleasure or the pleasure of others? Let that also guide you, however you answer.

I'm with Angel - jump straight in and give it a whirl! By all means ask for comments in the story feedback forum (once the story's up on the site) and if you want to, you can ask if anyone's willing to edit your stuff in the editor's forum.

But I'm willing to bet that most people here just submit a story and hope for the best - certainly the first time anyway. Don't get too hung up about numbers of votes and reads - they increase as you post more stories and develop a readership.

The nuts and bolts stuff about how to submit a story here, well, first of all, go to your member's home page. If you don't know how to find that, it should be here: http://www.literotica.com/members/submissions_view.php once you've logged in. Then go to 'submit' on the left hand side of the page and follow the instructions from there.

The cut and paste box is by far the easiest way to submit your text though it will strip out anything like italics. There are ways and means of getting them in there if you want them - by using HTML code <i> and </i> - like this <i>word</i>. The real benefit of submitting via the cut and paste box is that it then takes on average 3 days for your story to be approved. If you submit a word document (or similar) it can take upwards of a week.

Try not to submit paragraphs any longer than say 6 to 8 lines in length because huge blocks of text are harder to read on a computer screen than they are on a printed page. Your readers will thank you (well, maybe not literally, but they'll be grateful) for including more 'white space' - it makes it easier to keep your place.

Make sure you always preview the story before you submit it to make sure lines of text are where they're supposed to be, etc.

What else? Think carefully about the category you submit under. Take a look at the stories in various categories before deciding which one yours fits into. 'Loving Wives', for example, is not what it says on the tin... :D

Oh, and once you've submitted the story and it says 'pending' in blue on your submissions page - don't click on that 'pending' link - it sends your story to the back of the queue (unless, of course, you want to pull the story back because you've realised there's something wrong with it).

Anyway, 'nuff of me. Get submitting!

I'd be willing to read your story and give you my opinion.

Thank you all for your advice. There really doesn seem to be a common theme her though. Have other read your work. My girlfriend is currently the only one reading the wooks, because I mainly write them for her benefit. I suppose that answers another of the questions. I would really like to please others as well as explore and expand my ability to write.

Once again, thanks for all the tips guys. :]
