Starfish!!!

Not lately, but I know what's been consuming you, and I know you have needed to do other stuff than run around professing love. Besides, I havn't told you that either. :)

Oh, and BTW, I love you too!

I meant to tell you earlier, just so you knew if you ever had to look it up in a book or something, but all of the fun broke out...

That 'mutant daisy thingy' (very cute common name option. :) )....

....is called Treasure Flower or Gazania rigens, sometimes just called Gazania.

I love how they open during the day and close at night.

Have you ever seen the ones that are a mix of all different colors of golds and oranges, and they will have different markings. It is a bit wild, but I think they are neat.

I wanted to ask you if you had to buy all of the stone that you edged your flower beds with, or where they a freebee? I was very impressed with your design choices. You are very talented with that.

*Hugs and kisses you*

Well, you'll laugh. but those stones are a result of many adventures in the middle of nowhere in rural Montana! There's a place here; deadman's something or other, and it has some of the most incredible rock formations. So if any of the rocks have fallen or broken off, I usually snatch them up and take them home! I'll have to take another trip soon... I'm putting in a new bed in the front yard. Thank you for telling me what those flowers were, I hadn't a clue, but they are lovely. Their color is so deep and rich. Although when they fold up at night, they still look mutant. I have more pictures, I'll have to get them out of the digital camera. I think I have a lily fetish, I was noticing how many darned lilies I have. My herb garden is taking over, too. Damn oregano grows like a weed!

I love you! You kick ass in my book *muah!*

Oregano can be very invasive....

I am fond however of plants that will grow in nooks that nothing else will...

Here is a few to avoid if you don't already have them taking over.

Common Yarrow, Achillia millifolium
Catmint (not nip), Nepta fassenii
Lemon balm, Melissa officianalis

These three are pretty bad, especially if you are short on space.

Oh, and you can always grow them if you can make sure to harvest before seed set. That is what I do...

Just dug up a shrub and it nearly kicked my ass, because it was a monster. No more heavy work today.

I am off to cut yarrow now, actually. It's past it's bloom and I am going to kill it all off, because I am lining the inner peremeter of our fence to give us some damned privacy.. Due to silly ass codes, we can only have a privacy fence if it surrounds our deck or fence, which is okay, but I hate seeing my neighbors swimming in their pool each day. I mean, they have to be feeling slightly exposed...

Oh and if I want to have nice backyard sex, it is out of the question. :(

Good thing we can camp out at his folks property by a nice pond in a clearing of the woods. Super nice.... oh wait... I have a pic of one side.... They have five acres of pure heaven.

Montana is amazing. I've only driven through on my round about way to Washington, but the sky there amazed me. I didn't want to leave. Oh, I got and oil change in Missoula, near the University.

Deadman's ???... I have a map in front of me on the floor, and in all of my travels I've only been exposed to that sounds like that is the actual Deadman's Pass on the Oregon trail, which is now crossed by some road I was on, at some point.

I love freebees...
I got 6 cubic yards of shreaded juniper to put down where I don't want anything to grow yet (which is actually a pretty large area, so I am psyched! :)

LOL.... too late! Yarrow, Mint, and Lemon balm have already taken over! Seriously! Wow... how did you know? We have lemon balm in the grass! It smells great when we mow it, though. I found a bunch of recipes for mint and lemon balm, like teas and cakes, and such, so I don't really mind the herbs. I usually tuck lemon balm into the little nooks, too, like between some of the rocks. It looks pretty there, and doesn't seem to mind the small spaces. It's the oregano that I can't find much use for. You can only put it in so many Italian dishes before it gets boring. Our yarrow is pretty, though, we have red and orange. And then there's the Butterfly bush (no pun intended), and that keeps reseeding itself and taking over the herb bed! But the bees and butterflies love it, and it smells really good. Very sweet, but nice. I took more pictures, I'll load them onto the garden thread.

Almost forgot.... lilies of the valley... those things REALLY take over in the right conditions, and they'll even grow in acidic soul, weird stuff, but the blooms smell heavenly, and I like the foliage.
