If you don't know about Star Trek, keep on moving. I am not going to explain everything about it. This is a game that takes place upon the USS Federation Starship Excalibur. This is linear with the true Star Trek timeline thus far, though from this point on it will be seperate from any future movies or series. If you want to play, PM me with a bio and image and request an inviation. You can pick any enlisted rank or officer rank up to Lieutenant Commander. If you want info on ranks and departments onboard a starship, look it up on one of the millions of star trek database sites. Enlisteds spend three to six months at Starfleet Academy, officers spend four years (eight years for doctors, science officers, and psycologists). Or, you may choose to be a Starfleet Marine aboard the ship for advanced security.
The current year in the Star Trek Universe is 2382, which has been linear since the beginning of TNG in 1987, which was the Star Trek year of 2364. Here is a chronology for you, however, this was last updated six years ago: http://www.trekmania.net/conference/chronology.htm
Pretty vague, I know, but really, most of us who will want to play this will be Trekkies anyway. I will be playing three characters. One will be the Captain of the newest galaxy class starship, Excalibur. I will also be playing the chief engineering officer and a young ensign fresh out of the academy. I need an XO (Executive Officer/First Officer) and a SO (Second Officer/Chief Operations Officer), so if you are interested, let me know. My characters will be posted shortly, as soon as I'm done with my dinner.
As for background, the Excalibur is a new ship, and is docked at Starbase Zeta IV, which is in orbit around Earth (Zeta II is in orbit around Mars and Zeta III is in orbit around Jupiter. Zeta I used to orbit earth until it was destroyed by a rogue Klingon vessel, and Zeta IV was it's replacement). According to Earth years, it is June 21st, 2382. The stardate for that is 238221.7. The year, the date, and then following a decimal the number of the month. This is not exactly as it is done, but it gives it a bit more stability. Science officers have developed date translators for species of worlds that have different cycles than Earth's. These devices effectively translate the stardate based on Earth's cycle into other formats.
