This is my version of Star Ocean, a sort of alternate timeline of the Second Story with some original characters and locations. Basically, here is what I've got:
After World War III (2012 - 2021), the people of Earth finally came together under the rule of the United Nations of Earth (UNE). By the end of the century, humans had colonized their moon and Mars. However, in early 2097, they discovered that Martians (green-skinned humanoids with varying shades of green hair, green eyes, and pointed ears, kind of like elves and have no body hair other than scalp and eyebrows) had created underground cities after their advanced technologies rendered the surface of their planet uninhabitable.
The Martian War lasted from 2097 until 2109, when the Martians finally forgave the humans for invading their planet and they formed an alliance. With the two races now working together, technology advanced rapidly, and over the next 200 years, they colonized hundreds of planets throughout local systems. They discovered Subspace, created Stargates, and made contact with over a dozen different humanoid races, most uniting to form the United Systems Galactic Federation (USGF).
At some point during the early 2200s, an old scientist named Nicholas Flamel had discovered a powerful energy pulsing through the entire universe after having a near-death experience during a heart attack at his house in England on Earth. Even after recovering, he could still sense the energy, which he came to call the Pulse. Over the following years, he spent every spare moment in his lab studying and experimenting with the Pulse. He was able to open his grandson's (Richard Flamel) mind to the Pulse as well, and together they learned how to channel the energy into their bodies, and in turn, into objects with various effects. These early studies came to be known as Alchemy, and in the last year of the elderly Doctor Flamel's life, in 2236, he opened the Flamel Institute of Alchemy. However, by the end of the century, only goverment-certified Alchemists were allowed, and the Institute had been moved to the USGF Naval Academy in New York City, which was the capitol of the Federation since that is where the UN met after World War III.
Even now, in the year 2307, Alchemists are few, being that most people cannot feel the Pulse. Of the 300 billion citizens of the known galaxy, only a few hundred thousand can feel the Pulse, and even fewer can actually channel it enough to become Alchemists. Usually each year the Academy certifies between 30 and 50 Alchemists.
Three years ago, in 2304, the Federation discovered that just beyond their borders, a race of humanoid dragons existed. They were the D'Raki, and were on a mission to conquer the entire galaxy. They saw other races as their slaves, and upon realizing these other races had touched the Pulse, which they called Zhi'Dori, they declared war on the Federation. Unlike the other races, every single D'Raki could feel and use the Pulse, which they believed was a gift from their gods, the Di'Rhadaith. Though the Pulse, they felt the other races touching its power once they got close enough, and considered it a severe insult to the Di'Rhadaith to use the power.
Now, three years into the Pulse Wars, our characters are five Alchemists who are in their senior year at the Naval Academy. After graduation, the five friends are on a shuttle to join the rest of the crew aboard their assignment, the USS Meteor, a massive battleship. However, just as they are about to enter a Stargate, cloaked D'Raki ships appear, uncloak, and start firing on a nearby starbase. The explosion from the starbase activates the Stargate prematurely and it sucks their shuttle in, sending them many lightyears off course. Somehow they exit Subspace without a gate, their engine badly damaged. They crash land on a distant planet where the people are still in their middle ages.
By using the Pulse on a young girl they meet (which is normally prohibited) to read her mind and learn about their world and language, they are able to communicate with them. The world, known as Expel, has been suffering in the last few weeks since the appearance of the Sorcery Globes, eight large crystals that crashed on the planet and began turning people and animals into monsters.
The girl, Rena, was a strong believer in the Scriptures of Jironus, writings of a great prophet from a time long past. His greatest prophecy:
"When the world reaches its darkest hour and all hope seems lost in the midst of the eight terrors, five great warriors will descend from the heavens, bringing with them powerful magicks to right the wrongs of corruption and restore balance to the world."
If there is enough interest I will add more.
