This thread is closed at least for now!
Running late again, as Jason Muratolo always was these days.
He strapped his laptop onto his carry on and dashed off into the airport. At least the security lines for elite status flyers was always shorter than the norm. His flight was due to leave in 30 minutes and that meant that they were already boarding. He cursed that he was already so late. There was nothing better than getting on early, and settling in while everyone else jostled for space and to buckle in. This was a rare mid afternoon flight for him, so at least it wouldn’t be crowded. Today was a good day, and even though this was a long flight to Boston, he had been bumped to first class.
Jason breezed through security, and made it to the gate. There was already a crush of people in line. General boarding had already begun.
Wait a minute!
There was a slender shapely woman up there in the front now boarding, who looked very familiar. He couldn’t see her face, yet he knew who she was. Jason remembered the first time they had met, at a trade show where he had been exhibiting and she was an attendee. They had ended up sharing a table that night in the crowded hotel bar, and swapped life stories. They had both been married then. That had been ten years ago. Idly, Jason rubbed his now bare ring finger. At least one of them was unattached was now. Their paths had crossed infrequently over the years, yet every time he saw her they connected again as if they were best friends.
What was her name? Jill? Ellen? Claire? Winona? Allison? Jaime? Devon? Kara? Ooooo that Kara. *chomp chomp* sweet midnight basketball memories there. No, she was not Kara. All of those names sounded familiar yet none of them was quite right.
Jason’s turn came to board. He scanned quickly for her. There she was in first class, 2D. Next to some overweight guy with greasy hair and a Sears suit who was trying his best to engage her in conversation. She was having none of it, desperately immersing herself in Katherine Dunn’s wild book Geek Love. She never saw him as Jason slid into 4A.
The flight soon was ready and they pushed back and were airborne in short order.
Jason could see in front of him as the guy next to his friend never stopped talking, even leaning over and touching her.
Time for a rescue! Jason went up front, and handed the attendant his suit jacket. As he turned around he stopped until his eyes met hers. She reacted with a big smile.
“Well hello there stranger! Great to see you again. How long has it been, 3 years this time?” Jason exclaimed.
“More like four” she said aloud. Silently she mouthed “Save Me!”
“Let’s get caught up. 4B is an empty seat, would you care to join me? ” he said.
“Wonderful!”
She got up and he couldn’t help but admire the smooth round lines of her ass in those white linen pants. She was damned attractive. Why they had never even tried to sleep together, Jason didn’t know. It just never seemed to be the right time, for one or both of them.
“So we meet again” they said simultaneously, then burst into laughter together.
