Running late again, as Jason Muratolo always was these days.

He strapped his laptop onto his carry on and dashed off into the airport. At least the security lines for elite status flyers was always shorter than the norm. His flight was due to leave in 30 minutes and that meant that they were already boarding. He cursed that he was already so late. There was nothing better than getting on early, and settling in while everyone else jostled for space and to buckle in. This was a rare mid afternoon flight for him, so at least it wouldn’t be crowded. Today was a good day, and even though this was a long flight to Boston, he had been bumped to first class.

Jason breezed through security, and made it to the gate. There was already a crush of people in line. General boarding had already begun.

Wait a minute!

There was a slender shapely woman up there in the front now boarding, who looked very familiar. He couldn’t see her face, yet he knew who she was. Jason remembered the first time they had met, at a trade show where he had been exhibiting and she was an attendee. They had ended up sharing a table that night in the crowded hotel bar, and swapped life stories. They had both been married then. That had been ten years ago. Idly, Jason rubbed his now bare ring finger. At least one of them was unattached was now. Their paths had crossed infrequently over the years, yet every time he saw her they connected again as if they were best friends.

What was her name? Jill? Ellen? Claire? Winona? Allison? Jaime? Devon? Kara? Ooooo that Kara. *chomp chomp* sweet midnight basketball memories there. No, she was not Kara. All of those names sounded familiar yet none of them was quite right.

Jason’s turn came to board. He scanned quickly for her. There she was in first class, 2D. Next to some overweight guy with greasy hair and a Sears suit who was trying his best to engage her in conversation. She was having none of it, desperately immersing herself in Katherine Dunn’s wild book Geek Love. She never saw him as Jason slid into 4A.

The flight soon was ready and they pushed back and were airborne in short order.

Jason could see in front of him as the guy next to his friend never stopped talking, even leaning over and touching her.

Time for a rescue! Jason went up front, and handed the attendant his suit jacket. As he turned around he stopped until his eyes met hers. She reacted with a big smile.

“Well hello there stranger! Great to see you again. How long has it been, 3 years this time?” Jason exclaimed.

“More like four” she said aloud. Silently she mouthed “Save Me!”

“Let’s get caught up. 4B is an empty seat, would you care to join me? ” he said.

“Wonderful!”

She got up and he couldn’t help but admire the smooth round lines of her ass in those white linen pants. She was damned attractive. Why they had never even tried to sleep together, Jason didn’t know. It just never seemed to be the right time, for one or both of them.

“So we meet again” they said simultaneously, then burst into laughter together.

“What was his name??” Abigial Thomas wondered silently as she gave her rescuer a wide grateful smile. She can remember everything about him, from the way he smelled from their first meeting down to how he combed his hair straight back at their last meeting. But his name totally escaped her memory.

It was about four years ago when they first met. Funny how that bit of information flew out of her mouth. Abby hadn’t thought about him since then. Though through the years, they’ve met by chance and he always felt like a long lost friend.

“Let’s definitely catch up.” She announced and then leaned in close to whisper. “I owe you a drink. Bloody Mary, right?” They both laughed aloud. All heads turned to theirs. They drank how many Bloody Mary’s that first night???

Brian? No.. he was that guy from HR who was totally enamored by her and risked his reputation by hiring a rookie for the coveted software sales job. Abby was ever so grateful to him for allowing her foot in the door without a lick of experience. He wanted her badly. Abby tried. They dated. She’s always been too loyal, but as her success grew, she outgrew him.

Charlie? No… he doesn’t look like a Charlie. Whatever it is, she’ll soon find out. She was famous for being able to pry information from people without them even knowing it.

The attentive flight attendant brought their cocktails. “Cheers!” They clicked their plastic cups simultaneously.

“So… how’ve you been since we last met?” He asked, his voice low and sexy. Good god, he smelled just as wonderful as their first meeting!

Their first meeting…

Abby was the newly sales consultant for the largest software company. Hundreds of applicants wanted it. Over half would have paid money for a mere support position just to get their foot in the door, but somehow Abby convinced Brian that she was the right person for the job. Recently divorced Abby had something to prove. More than anything, she had to find out her own worth. So she dove head on into her career. At the time she didn’t know a thing about software sales. A quick research on the internet proved that Abby knew less than she realized. Driven, Abby maxed out her credit cards on a new wardrobe and all the sales materials available at Barnes n’ Noble. After learning all the geek speak, she braved forward to seminars. That’s where she met the tall handsome stranger sitting next to her.

There was a growing crowd around his booth. His captivating baritone voice had everyone’s rapt attention. Abby was curious. Her long lithe body squeezed through the suits and their eyes clicked immediately. His grey eyes twinkled at her. Her body came alive. And he knew it. Still he didn’t miss a beat. She waited silently until the crowd melted away until it was just the two of them….

“Want to help me pack up?” He asked. Abby was put off. Why would he discount her so easily? She could have been a potential customer. Still she helped him..
