Stranded - Casting Call and OOC

Stranded

First of all, note this. I want this (in other words, reqiure this) to be a more advanced roleplay. Proper grammar, third person are expected, and posts are expected to be a good size. No chatspeak will be allowed. At all. No three sentence responses. Also, this won't be just sex all the time. Have interesting and creative characters who can develop and have reasonable interactions with everyone over the course of this roleplay.

Good God no!
I made a typo in the title. Great. That just completely destroyed all my credibility on that. It was a mistake, please don't kill me for it.

Now on to the plot, which is a work in progress, which I'd like the members to help me out with.

The year is 2003, the scene is the Southwestern Pacific Ocean. A relatively small cruiser is travelling from Hawaii to New Zealand, making various stops along the way. But the ocean is an unforgiving mistress, and a violent storm appears out of virtually no where. The crew valiantly battles the tempest, but cannot seem to affect the ship's course or damage. Crewmen and passengers are tossed over in the rain and win, drowning in the night.

Meanwhile, the ship has been blown off course, and the winds fuel it straight towards one of the many uncharted maps of the Pacific. This small island has virtually never been seen by humans, as it is surrounded by rocky outcroppings and barrier reefs. The ship smashes into a rock, tearing the hull open, and it doggedly travels a hundred meters forward, scraping along the reef, until it grinds to a halt. The ship leans to the outer side, then slowly rolls into the deep, carrying almost all the passengers with it.

But not all. A guard on the ship, member of the U.S. Navy, manages to keep a clear head, and releases one of the lifeboats, saving a handful of people along with it.

None of them have met any of the other's before. They all come from different walks of life, with different skills and abilities. The ordeal that follows their survival of the shipwreck will be the most demanding of their lives. How will they fare?

---

That's the introduction. I am the Naval Officer. Anyone may apply, as long as they agree to the statement in the beginning of this thread. Hopefully a relatively even male-female ratio will be present.

Anyways, introduce your character, give me some feedback, whatever you want. Just glad to have some people join! :)

Very interesting. Count me in.

Name: Stephanie Jones
Age: 19
Looks: 5'5", red hair, green eyes, and soft curves

Brief History:
Stephanie is a sophmore in college with a major in psychology. She is polite, outgoing, and gets along well with most people. Due to her religious upbringing she has remained a virgin (for the time being). She went on the cruise with her entire family (mother, father, and younger brother) for the summer break, but was the only one to survive.

Vedddddy Intedesting...

Good show my boy...hopefully I can be of service...*hic*

Sir Reginald R.H. Trowbridge, former British Intelligence, now primarily intoxicated. No american alcohol of any kind, except a quality sour mash, EVERYTHING else is fair game.

40, in shape (except for the drunkeness), rugged good-looks, knowledge of everything from explosives to piloting a helicopter. Utterly fearless, resourceful, highly intelligent and totally unreliable. He's got that ethereal and annoying, for those who don't have it, thing that the gals dig. His license to kill was revoked a decade ago but he can still be frighteningly ruthless, given the right scenario. If he thought it was necessary, he'd kill you without thinking twice.

He was of no help during the wreck, he was loaded. Pure instinct was the only thing that kept him from expiring with the rest of the ill-fated ones, joining those in the life boat after it had pulled away from the ship.

Sounds like a cool thread! Hope we can get a couple more guys to join the thread...

In the meantime, here's my character:

Name: Amanda (Mandy to her few friends) Richards
Age: 21
Appearance: A waifish asian girl, slender, short, black hair cut in a bob-style with a single blonde lock above her left brow, several piercings (ears, nose, lower lip, tongue, possibly other places...) and a couple of tattoos in personal places, dark eyes, often listening to music on her iPod. She dresses in bulky black clothes and tends to avoid others.

History: Amanda never knew her birth parents, but she knew she was adopted since her parents weren't Asian. They loved her and took great care of her, but she nevertheless developed a low-self esteem and tended to avoid making friends at school. Her greatest love was always music. Much of her childhood was spent practicing the violin and piano, and she eventually got quite good at both. Her parents couldn't afford to send her to the prestigious music school she wanted, and so instead she joined a local goth band as the keyboard player. She found the goth scene to be a great way to rebel against her parents and society in general,

Althoguh she's extremely cute, she doesn't think she's pretty at all, and had never had much luck with boys, or even girls, for that manner, until she joined a band and realized she was developing a crush on the lead female singer. She kept quiet, thoguh, unsure of how to deal with her sexuality.

When she and her band mates finally hit it big and got a gig playing on board a large luxury liner, she thought things were finally turning around. She planned on testing the waters with Sienna, the lead singer, but she never got the chance. Of course... that liner is the one in this story. When it sinks, she's the only one to survive of her band. Somehow, she managed to save her violin from the same fate. She suffered a bad knock to the head during the evacuation and was knocked unconscious, her hands gripping her violin tightly. She was resuced by the naval officier at the last minute, and will be wakening from unconsciousness soon after the lifeboat reaches the island as the thread begins.

Welcome aboard you three, if you'll excuse my pun.

I see some conflict between you and I, Sir Trowbridge, as my officer will very likely attempt to assume command.

Trowbridge

Exactly...although Reg can be quite easily pacified with the right amount of scotch - lol - he will mostly definitely speak his mind if he thinks our American cousin is about to bollocks up the works.

By the way I'm 100% behind you with the guidlines you set forth in your opening statement. The "blah, blah, blah....and then they fucked" formula becomes powerfully tedious in a very short period of time. I think your parameters will keep us creative with this thread fror a long time. :)

Messalina Bishop

She had been named for one of the "uppity wimmin of herstory" -- as her father liked to say. Never quite living up to the reputation of the wife of the Emperor Claudius of Rome, Messalina Bishop had had a wild youth but finally settled down in her twenties and hit the books (much to her parents' relief) -- ultimately earning a doctorate in Art History/Classical Archaeology and a minor in cultural anthropology.

EDUCATION:

Phd. in Art History/Classical Archaeology from the University of Virginia
Masters from Rice University; Summa Cum Laude.
BA in Ancient Studies from Barnard College, Columbia University; Cum Laude.

Messa, needing a break, and with a passel of things on her mind has decided to take the cruise to get her personal stuff together. Destination: South Island and a possible Class IV pa site funded by someone in the private sector through the auspices of the Te Awamutu Museum. What had caught her attention, though, was that it was on the west side of the island where none to date had ever been excavated.

This sounds like an interesting storyline. Would you mind another female (was thinking you could use a medic of some sort) or are you thinking you're pretty full up and ready to start at this point? I'd love to join but if you're not looking for more women I'll just enjoy reading!

Sounds like an awesome storyline....room for another guy?

Name: J.D. Ackland
Age: 22

A rather tanned and muscular guy, standing at 6'2' - this is thanks to his upbringing in sport. Was about to start his professional career in basketball, but decided to go on a short holiday during the summer - and thats how he was on the boat. Short dark brown hair with emerald green eyes. One tattoo - a large Maori design across his back and shoulders. One piercing, a ring in the top of his left ear. A good looking guy - who is rather oblivious to that fact - an outgoing and fun loving guy. Can be a bit of a party animal.

Was the only one to survive the accident, the group of friends he came with....its unknown what happened to them. Only just made it onto a lifeboat before the boat went down

Four girls, three guys so far, not counting caela.

I'm open for you joining, as any male would... Things will just have to be more creative.

Vikingstone- thanks for your support. About scotch... not sure how much of that they could find on the island. :D We'll have to get creative.

I'll wait another couple hours to let anyone else apply if they want to, then I'm closing it and making the thread.

Room for another? :)

Hi!

Hopefully you have a spare space left on this ship of tears for an engineer! Chose my niche to complement Caela's medic, if she'd still like to be in, otherwise I might bend my choice rather more in that direction. I'm easy - either way, but for now I'll assume a mechanistic lean.

Name: James Duggan
Age: 25
Profession: Assistant Engineer

Originally Scots, but trained in England and America - accent softened to the point where his old friends would have trouble understanding him. Finished University and took this post for a gap year before his masters - interested in both Mechanical and Social dynamics, and thought a post on a Cruise ship might be the best of both worlds.

Cropped black hair, hazel eyes and a lean build. Used to live in the Engineroom and the Bar in equal measure in happier days on the ship. Was up on deck at the time of the incident - which is what saved him, as the rest of his watch (including the Chief Engineer) perished below decks.

Still a little in shock, but essentially a practical guy with a good solid foundation in Mech. Engineering. A rather black sense of humour, but can be great fun to be around. Has only three full packs of cigarettes left and is dourly contemplating his state when both they and the coffee have run out...

Welcome on. It's closed after that. I'll make the post pretty soon.
