Contrary to popular belief, the most evil man in human history was NOT Adolf Hitler. But rather a tight competition between Josef Stalin and Mao Zedong.

Mao murdered over 80,000,000 people throughout a period of seven years.

Whom do you think is a worse monster, Stalin or Mao?

to be fair, mao's totals are inflated by the ungodly famine that occurred thanks in part to his policies, but mainly because his underlings were a bunch of chicken shit yes men.

The "great cultural revolution" resulted in a famine which killed tens of millions of innocent people.

Most of the victims of his ruthless reign of terror died from starvation, and not outright individual murder.

I believe that Mao's political regime killed between 49,000,000 and 78,000,000 people, most from famine. This is greater than ALL of the casualties of world war II!

But yeah, Mao takes the #1 spot in terms of the absolute worst mass-murderers in all of human history.

In my personal opinion, Stalin and Mao's regimes were FAR more ruthless than Hitler and the Nazis.

Even the Nazis followed the geneva conventions and treated captured allied POW's relatively well.

Genghis Khan 1162-1227 would put these guys in the shade. He accounted for the murder of 40 million Chinese peasants and another 15 million on the Iranian plateau. His numbers elsewhere were unrecorded, probably because there was no-one left to count.

The difference was that GK killed, not vicariously through starvation famine etc, but as a matter of policy. He routinely killed all the men and boys of a defeated enemy and where a city resisted killed all the females too. He managed this when the population was only 10% of what it was when Mao and Stalin came along.

So ancient and medieval despots and genocides are worse than what was witnessed during the modern era?

Genghis Khan sounds like a pretty bad dude...
