So this tour company "XL" went belly up. All of the company's planes were grounded because they couldn't pay their airplanes' insurance or fuel bills. Thousands of their customers are now sitting there away from home. Sitting there. FUCKED.

I'm sure the customers shoulda prepared for this. It's all their fault.

Yay, capitalism.

Umm, no, sr71plt wouldn't say that at all. The passengers had contracts with XL, so sr71plt would say that it was XL's reponsibility to get them wherever it was contracted to get them. (Presumably they still have value in the planes they are no longer flying.) Sr71plt does not, in fact, agree with the bankruptsy laws that just let companies renege on responsibilities they signed up for.

As is so often the case, LaJoke is so rabid and obdurate that he is incorrectly ascribing "postions" to others.

Dammit! I thought the package prices looked too good to be true.

Be home soon, I have AmEx. :cattail:

I tend to buy trip insurance for this reason. You never know and the airlines truly don't care.

Don't tell LaJoke this, or he'll start naming you in his dumb thread titles. (I do so love when someone has me on ignore--I can respond to what they post without worrying about them coming back at me. The "ignore" function probably works best in its reverse benefits. :))

That's the problem - by making crap like "trip insurance" necessary because of their irresponsibility, they always find a way to screw people out of more money.

Oh and sr71plt has stepped into his own logical trap.

First he says customers who put their money in a bank should do all kinds of convoluted bullshit to protect their money or else they're idiots. Now suddenly he's doing a 180. Suddenly now the company shouldn't even be able to go bankrupt and shrug off their obligations.

IQ 71 boy would be fired from his job if he told a customer they deserved to lose their money for any reason.

sr71plt is so incredibly ignorant and uneducated that he's unfit for any job beyond digging a ditch.

No company should ever be released from their contractual obligations. Banks should be forced to give customers their money when they go under, and these stranded customers should never have been left out there like that.

Trip insurance is just a scam designed to put more of a burden on customers; in fact, XL should have been forced to buy trip insurance for customers, and factor it into the ticket price.

Again, sr71plt, you're a total flaming idiot. You should have seen this thread and walked away. Instead you just trounced yourself all over again. You're a liability to any employer you work for.

Naw, you just can't see the difference (which doesn't particularly surprise me).

In the case of the banks, the contracted deal was that the account was insured to $100,000, and it was easy to divide deposits to stay within the contract. It was the depositors' own stupidity that led to their loss--and you have suggested that the other depositors in the bank should make up for their stupidity by covering their self-caused loss. (You never did seem to catch on to the many times I said lifting the insured rate to $250,000 would be a good move--I guess because it didn't suit your rabid argument.)

In the case of the travel, the contract was that the passengers forked over money and the airline gave them the contracted service. So, it's obvious to me that the travel company is responsible to make good the contract. Other travelers who protected themselves (by taking out travel insurance) aren't being asked to make up the loss in any way.

Apples and kumquats--but apparently a bit beyond your comprehension. As usual, you are suggesting that "someone else" is always to blame and that people are zombies--shouldn't be expected to take responsibility for themselves.

Asking an airline to pay for their gas upfront in cash: Priceless

So, I'm not the only one who finds Mr. Consonants to be an arrogant, sermonizing hypocrite. Good.

Would have to research the airline issue better, but I do like seeing someone else trade barbs with him for a change.

Though, personally, I advise you to just put the preening preacher on ignore.

Oh, now you've done it. You've failed to give the numbers equal billing--and they are very upset. :D

I already have. I was just mocking him and his clueless ass with this thread. I guess he figured he was doing something by coming by and trying to defend himself, but as usual all he did was shoot himself back down.

You do make a pretty pair, I must say. If this is an odd-man out game, I'm delighted to be the out. :)

Well done. Glad to see someone else get his goat. :D

I pissed him off because I am passionate about issues that he does not approve of anyone being passionate about.

I'd love to tell him to his face what I and most of America think of his sorry ass.

All of America on my doorstep? I wonder if we've laid in enough beer.

And I for declaring my economic nationalism. :D For me, the very survival of America requires that the excesses of globalization be curbed and yesterday.

Not to mention that I want to find alternative sources of revenue to free the middle class from the income tax while improving infrastructure. Apparently, my tariff idea didn't go over very well. :D

Yes, he's remarkably callous and unprincipled for a supposed free thinker. Hmmm....wonder what that makes him? He'll attack plenty of others, but God forbid someone should hoist him from his own petard. ;)
