The next one in the spotlight is another HT regular, Eilan.

I consider her a friend, yet there is a lot I have yet to learn about her.

So, have at it, and as always here at the HTC, keep your arms, hands, and belongings in the car at all times. :)

Oh, and silverwhisper's rules apply:

The ground rules:
1. questions or simple comments only. this is not a place to argue with someone, challenge them or attempt to engage in debate. save the arguing for another time.

2. don't be an asshat: don't ask deliberately embarrassing questions, or stuff that treads on the sacred. the purpose is to get someone to open up, not shut down.

3. have fun. try to think of engaging questions that will get someone talking.

4. anyone can ignore or refuse to answer questions they don't like, without explanation.

5. when this thread's run its course, Eilan should review the original thread and select any of the people who said they would be willing to be spotlighted.

Does maddbradd read your posts here?

If you were a sex toy, what would you be? (Might as well jump right in.. :D)

Do you miss teaching?

Ooh--questions! I'm getting ready to go pick up my youngest daughters from their after-school program and I have to go to a couple of soccer games, but I can answer these before I leave!

Does maddbradd read your posts here? To be honest, I have no idea. I know that he lurks on occasion, so I post with the assumption that he might be reading. He always sends me a dirty PM on my birthday.

If you were a sex toy, what would you be? The world's biggest double dong! :D

Do you miss teaching? Some days, yes. I miss the non-spousal adult interaction--not necessarily with the students, but with my colleagues--and I miss witnessing those moments when a student finally "gets" it. But other times, like when my friends tell stories about blatant cases of plagiarism and people texting and web-surfing during class discussions, I don't miss it at all.

Now for the questions :D

~ What would you change about the world around you?

~ What author springs up the most controversy?

~ How do you put everything in perspective?

~ What's your favourite Hallowe'en candy?

Do you have any tattoos? If not and you were going to get one, where and what would it be?

What is your favorite dessert? and what is your favorite desert?

Where would you go on your dream vacation? How long would you stay and what would you do there?

Would you have blown Ed McMahon for ten million dollars while he was still alive?

Who is your favorite South Park character?

Why no avatar?

Given your mixed feelings about teaching, have you considered substituting now and then to get a balance between being around the kids in the age group who are easiest for you to teach, and not being caught up in the politics again?

Favorite movie? Howards End

Favorite book? The Mists of Avalon. Not particularly literary given my background, but there you go.

Favorite music album? Fleetwood Mac's Rumours.

Favorite composer?
It's a tie between Beethoven and Chopin. I can play more Beethoven songs.

Favorite artist? Dora Carrington

Least favorite genre of art? To be honest, I don't pay much attention to art, and I never took an art history class, so my knowledge of art is pretty pitiful. This isn't really what you're asking, but the college I used to teach at received sculptures from some semi-well-knownish sculptor. I hated seeing those things on campus. One looked like a giant car engine and the other looked like a ball of yarn made of barbed wire--I suppose it was, wasn't it? I just didn't get it, I suppose.

When was the last time you had a REALLY dirty thought about a complete stranger? Tell us about it. This doesn't involve a specific stranger, but at my most recent book group meeting, we were talking about charging money for sexual favors without providing sexual contact. I've found recently that the idea of humiliating my partner really turns me on, though it's not something that I'm interested in doing with my husband. Not that he'd be interested, either!

At an amusement park, carnival, or fair, what's your favorite ride and/or activity? Probably the Ferris wheel because I've become a wuss. I would have answered this a lot differently when I was younger. My husband and I went to Cedar Point a couple of summers ago, and I was excited about the big coasters because I used to love stuff like that, but they sucked. :(

If you had to have one avatar for the rest of your life, for all accounts you have anywhere, what would you have? I think I'd get a pic of myself doing a yoga pose, maybe Upward Facing Bow.

What color spotlight would you like? Teal, because it's my favorite color.

Whats the one place in the world you want to go to? England. Nowhere specific. I won't fly, so it'll never happen.

How old were you when you met your first "love"? 10.

Where did you come up with "Cuntabulous" lol I think I saw it on another of my online haunts and decided to steal it. I've also been known to use "Fucktacular" and "Condescenderella."

What position do you prefer? Spooning or any position that has be on my side. Guaranteed orgasms!

Is your name really Eilan or is that just a screen name? It's a screen name. I got it from one of the books in Marion Zimmer Bradley's Avalon series.

In your book club which book or author caused the most discussion/disruption? Making History, by Stephen Fry (yes, the actor!). It's about what might have happened if Hitler had never been born. The main characters use a machine to go back in time (in a sense--it's difficult to explain) and prevent Hitler's conception. Things don't work out exactly how they planned. We had a really wonderful discussion about this book.

What's your ultimate de-stressor. My yoga classes, hands down!

Conversely what's the one thing that flips your switch and brings you crashing down? Ohio State football? :D

Favourite kids movie? E.T.

Favourite character? Kids' character? Probably Charlie Brown. I really identified with him when I was a kid.

good choice, bg!

eilan, let's begin with the usual suspects and work from there...

1. what is your favorite word?
2. what is your least favorite word?
3. what turns you on [creatively, spiritually or emotionally]?
4. what turns you off?
5. what is your favorite curse word?
6. what sound or noise do you love?
7. what sound or noise do you hate?
8. what profession other than your own would you like to attempt?
9. what profession would you not like to do?
10. if heaven exists, what would you like to hear god say when you arrive at the pearly gates?

You can have either a personal chef, or a housekeeper. Which do you choose?I would absolutely choose the housekeeper! I don't like cleaning on the best of days, and with kids who immediately undo what I just did, it gets to be demoralizing.

How did you get to be so hawt? :D I bust my ass in the gym. Unfortunately, there are no workouts that will improve my face. :D

Did you date a lot in high school? No. Girls with braces, huge owl-eyed glasses, and bad perms don't generally get lots of dates. I did eventually grow out of the awkwardness somewhat and I ended up with a couple of boyfriends, and I got to go to the prom as a freshman and sophomore. I had this idea that I was so ugly that if any boy liked me, it must have been as part of a prank.

Do you have a sweet tooth? Sometimes, but I've always been more about the salty stuff. I could cut out sugar and not even miss it.

Thank you.

What would you change about the world around you? I'd like to stop everyone from being so divisive. Like in politics, for example.

What author springs up the most controversy? I think the "controversial" author who has touched me the most has been Judy Blume. I don't think she's the most controversial author out there, not by a long shot, but her work ends up being on those lists of banned books pretty regularly.

How do you put everything in perspective? By reminding myself that it's not always about me, no matter how much I'd like it to be.

What's your favourite Hallowe'en candy? Smarties or Sweet Tarts.

Do you have any tattoos? If not and you were going to get one, where and what would it be? No tattoos. I don't see myself ever getting one.

What is your favorite dessert? and what is your favorite desert? Tiramisu!

Where would you go on your dream vacation? How long would you stay and what would you do there? As I said earlier, I won't fly, so my options are limited. I'd probably just move permanently to somewhere warm.

Would you have blown Ed McMahon for ten million dollars while he was still alive? Is that what people used to have to do to claim the Publisher's Clearing House prize? I'm not sure Ed McMahon had that much money when he died. I'd hate to deprive an old man of what was left of his fortune. So as appealing as the prospect of that much money might be, I'd have to do the right thing and turn him down. :D

Who is your favorite South Park character? It's so hard to pick just one, but I'd have to go with Mr./Mrs. Garrison.

Why no avatar? I took the old one down and forgot to put another one up. I have avs turned off, so i didn't even notice.

Given your mixed feelings about teaching, have you considered substituting now and then to get a balance between being around the kids in the age group who are easiest for you to teach, and not being caught up in the politics again? Yeah, I have considered subbing. My ex-husband keeps telling me I should sub in his district. I think I'd prefer to go back to teaching at the college level again, though, because I could have a more flexible schedule that way. Even though all my kids are in school now, I have the Mommy Guilt thing going on.

what is your favorite word? Right now, it's twunt.

what is your least favorite word? Obstruction

what turns you on [creatively, spiritually or emotionally]? Intelligence and openness to new ideas.

what turns you off? Ignorance. Stupidity can't be helped, but ignorance is a choice.

what is your favorite curse word? Shithelldamnassfuckmotherfuckercuntbitch!! Yes, that's one word, and it's particularly useful when stubbing toes, banging funny bones, etc! :D

what sound or noise do you love? Rain on the roof.

what sound or noise do you hate? Gum-chewing and lip smacking.

what profession other than your own would you like to attempt? Professional conspiracy theorist.

what profession would you not like to do? Anything overly physical or dirty.

if heaven exists, what would you like to hear god say when you arrive at the pearly gates? If there is a Heaven, I don't, in all seriousness, believe I will be going there. However, if an administrative snafu lands me at the Pearly Gates, I'd love to hear God say, "Don't worry. The Phelps family didn't make it." :D

i wasn't aware you don't fly. if you don't mind my asking, why is that? I've developed a fear of heights that I didn't have when I was younger, which probably also explains why I no longer like amusement park rides. I know that, statistically, I'm far more likely to die in a car crash, but I don't like the idea of falling to my death from a gazillion feet, getting flown into a building, etc.

easily the most entertaining response ever to that question! :D

that's interesting, i didn't think that phobias developed later in life than that. i don't suppose you have any theories about how that came to be?

also: what are your thoughts on the canon and the study of literature?

that's interesting, i didn't think that phobias developed later in life than that. i don't suppose you have any theories about how that came to be? I think it's really more of an anxiety about motion and height combined. I can be on a roof or other high place as long as I feel stable.

what are your thoughts on the canon and the study of literature? My own graduate program was, for the most part, centered around the Dead White European (okay, British and American) male. I think we shouldn't disregard the "classics," but I'm also glad that times are changing.

what sound or noise do you hate? Gum-chewing and lip smacking.

Holy hell, I can't stand loud eaters, either.

If I'm ever arrested for murder, it will probably be because of someone eating or drinking loudly.

Do you drink coffee? If so, how do you take it?

tea?

What are some classics that you just can't stand?

Favorite kind of chocolate, or combination of chocolate and another ingredient?
(*Prepares to offer a Lindt truffle if it's the answer*)

What is it about bending your body into uncomfortable (but oddly erotic looking) poses that brings about such relaxation?

Have you used any of the poses for or during sex?

How did it turn out, successful or reduced you both to a laughing mess?

Have you ever got stuck and need help getting up?

What's the most embarrassing thing you have done that you were seen doing?

Got one where no one saw it?
