Spontaneous gender change!

Now, then... I know it's not exactly an original plot device, but bear with me here. The idea I had involves a guy who goes to bed one night, and wakes up a woman. The character in question would basically act exactly the same as they would as a male. A good few minutes of freaking out at first would be appropriate, I think... something along the lines of just looking down and going, "Where did those come from?" Then, looking into the pants and screaming "WHERE'S MY DICK!?!?"

I post this here because, while I'd love to write this myself, I'd also like to come up with a reason for the transformation, and beyond saying something like "A wizard did it", I'm drawing a blank. Also, I'm not sure what section this would go in. I was going to write it with the main character eventually in a relationship with another woman, and figured lesbian sex, but I'm not sure if that's the right section or not.

Well, those are all the details I can think of for now... if I think of anything else, I'll post again. Lemme know what you think!

You are right: original it's not -- there's a plethora of books and movies on this theme. What makes them consider-worthy is why the change occured and the effects of it.

Curiously, this may readily be solved. Whilst largely unacknowledged, gender changers are not too difficult to find in nature. Both plants and animals undergo gender swapping in given conditions. Sometimes it is a once-only occurrence ; other times it can be multiply done. A simple google search can be most informative and the results adapted to your story's requirements.

Like the premise and would love to read it.

One story I read in this subject had it that the reason was the result of a science experiment and this was an unforseen circumstance.
