Splitting Longer Stories

I don't think I've found any guidelines about splitting longer stories.

I'm ready for my first submission, but it looks like it will weigh in around 15000 words. Is that too long for this site? Should I split it into multiple posted parts?

I never had a problem with that kind of length before (said the actress to the bishop).

You have two options:

If the story is easily splittable, then you can split it into chapters and post them one at a time. These are kind of like episodes though and the story really needs to be written with this in mind. For example you need a sex scene per chapter if possible.

The other option is to post it under the novels and novellas section. I would probably lean toward telling you to post it using this option since you are asking.

I don't think a work is a novella until about 30,000 words.

I'd submit it as one story with a separate note to Laurel where you'd like the story to be split into "pages." Then, cross your fingers. She usually amenable to polite requests.

15,000 words will be posted to display as about 4.5 to 5 pages by the script that handles posting stories. (Aproximately 3400 words per page.) There are several stories that run longer than that already here, so the site can easily handle that length.

Unless your story is already structured in chapters then you should probably post it as a single submission. Posting it as shorter chapters might increase readership on some parts, but probably not on the entire story.

FWIW, there are shorter stories posted in the Novels and novellas category so it would not be out of place there but it isn't so long that it would be out of place in another category either.

Thank You

Thank you for your advice! I guess the main story areas are the way to go. Now, I need to pick one!
