Sperm plastic

Anything that reduces global reliance on petroleum products is a step in the right direction.

I'm having trouble conceiving how a supply chain could be developed to produce a meaningful amount of plastic.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the method requires salmon sperm in particular. Salmon just happen to be a handy source of DNA for research because salmon produce a lot of sperm with a high concentration of DNA, which I expect is why they've been used here.

To industrialise it, if commercial salmon sperm isn't enough, one might do something like genetically engineering bacteria to produce the required DNA.

I can't imagine what was going on in the mind of the scientist who first came up with the idea to try this. And then have to explain to his colleagues that this was his next big experiment.
