To fill the Atlanta seat Tom Price vacated to become Secretary of HHS.

Nate Silver predicts the Democrat, Jon Ossof, will get the most votes, but not a 50%+ majority (three Republicans are on the ballot), and a runoff election will be necessary.

Georgia Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff smacks down Trump over ‘misinformed’ tweet.

With only one day left before the special election in Georgia, President Donald Trump attacked Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff in a Monday morning tweet calling him a “super liberal” who wants to “protect criminals, allow illegal immigration and raise taxes.”

Ossoff shot back with a comment of his own calling the new president “misinformed.”

“While I’m glad the President is interested in the race, he is misinformed,” Ossoff said, according to Ben Jacobs‏ at The Guardian.

“I’m focused on bringing fresh leadership, accountability, and bipartisan problem solving to Washington to cut wasteful spending and grow metro Atlanta’s economy into the Silicon Valley of the South,” he continued.

With 11 or so Republicans opposing one Democrat the hope is that Democrat will get 50 % of the vote otherwise he will have to run off against the Republican with the most votes.

Which is probably what will happen, and the district leans R. Still, Ossof does have to seem a real shot and will certainly make it to the runoff, at least.

there are actually 4 dems running, in addition to Ossoff.

I hope Ossoff wins, most of his ads are "elect me because I....."

Most of the repub ads are " Ossoff is a stinking liberal"

If by some miracle Ossoff is elected, just look at how fast he dumps the campaign bullshit and races to the left.

It all depends on enthusiasm, which is notoriously hard to poll (especially in a special election). I'm not sure there are enough fired up Dems and depressed Republicans for Ossoff to avoid the runoff.

It will also be interesting to see what the total D vote is compared to the total R vote. Ossoff is getting all the attention, but there are some other Dems running too, and he should win over most of those in the runoff unless they're from the Jill Stein "I would never lower myself to vote for anyone who might actually win" segment of the left.

* ... am not Donald Trump.

A lie of omission. He's not running 'for' something, he's running against something and no matter how much money they throw at the election (Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton), how many stars leap into the fray (Hillary) or how many powerful party members get behind the candidate (JEB!) not being for something (Hillary) gets your ass beaten (Hillary, JEB!)...

Additionally, most of the Republican ads are being directed at each other just like election featuring Donald Trump...

Update:

While President Donald Trump has only taken to Twitter to rant about the Democratic frontrunner in Georgia’s runoff election to replace Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price, Republican voters in general seem to be coalescing around a single alternative — former Johns Creek Councilman Bob Gray.

A new poll by zpolitics and Clout Research found that Gray has support among 17 percent of voters, compared to 15 percent for former Secretary of State Karen Handel, according to a report by zpolitics. They are followed by former State Senator Judson Hill with 10 percent, former State Senator Dan Moody with 9 percent, businessman David Abroms with 3 percent, and former Trump Diversity Coalition leader Bruce Level with 1 percent.

I seriously doubt that Ossof will win. The district is overwhelmingly upscale and Republican. I lived there for 8 years. I'd wager that there are more houses on golf courses than anyplace else in America. Most of Atlanta's professional athletes live in this district.

The extreme southeastern corner of the district is slowly turning black/Hispanic. The district is still 70% white.

Georgia Dem: No issue I don’t live in district

Apparently his promise to move back into the district is sufficient??

Democrat Jon Ossoff dismissed concerns Tuesday over the fact that he doesn't live in the Georgia congressional district in which he's running for a House seat.

"I grew up in this district; I grew up in this community — it's my home. My family is still there," Ossoff said during an interview on CNN's "New Day."

Ossoff currently lives just outside Georgia's 6th Congressional District with his girlfriend, while she is attending medical school. He said that he has been transparent about the fact that he doesn't live in the district and pledged to move back to the district as soon as his girlfriend finishes school.

Then how did he qualify for the ballot?

Wow, I just looked up the qualifications:
  1. Over 25 years of age
  2. Been a citizen of Murica for seven years
  3. Must live in the state they are running in

They do NOT have to live in their district, but traditionally do.
I recall bomb-throwing wingnut Larry McDonald (who died in the Korean Air 007 crash) didn't live in his district. I don't think Newtie Gingrich did either.

Also the Supreme Court held that states CANNOT add/enlarge additional requirements for running.

Whelp, perhaps I was a tad pessimistic about Osoffs chances!

Breaking: Ossoff (D) wins 61% of Fulton's in-person absentees. Again, it's almost *precisely* what he needs to be on track for 50%

North Fulton County is 1/3 of Georgia's district 6, and is one of the whitest and most affluent counties in the state.

Going to be REAL interesting to see how gentrifying redneck shithole Cherokee County votes. (Miles lived there, that's how redneck it is).

It looks like Ossoff is going to barely fall short of a majority, though he's leading the field by a whole lot.

The good news for him is that he's overperforming his polls a bit, and the Republican option is going to be Karen Handel, who has proven to not be a very good candidate in several previous races. Also, the guy who ran most explicitly as a Trumpkin is losing bigly.

The bad news is that the runoff is two months away. That's a long time to sustain current levels of Dem enthusiasm in a red district. And if Trump looks marginally less disastrous by summer, they might be able to hold the seat. (Of course, there's a not tiny chance he will look even worse by summer.)

Karen Handel is the sentient pile of feces who attempted to reshape the Komen Breast Cancer foundation into her own anti-abortion playground.

If she forces a runoff, I will gladly contribute to anyone running against her.

Independents and sane people will put Ossoff over the top in June, but it will be a lot of work. He still has to earn it.

Trump is doing him a favor with the name recognition they way CNN did for Trump (and they are doing now) by never shutting the fuck up about the asshole.

The Trump robo call was all about the "Nancy Pelosi's group" boogeyman coming to get the people of Georgia. Can Pelosi be a boogeyman when the Republicans control 33 Governor's Mansions, both chambers in 32 states, including 17 with veto-proof majorities, the House of Representatives (+24), the Senate (+6, and Pence), a majority on the Supreme Court and, last but certainly not least, Donald J "Never Met Lie I wouldn't Tell" Trump in the White House?

ETA: Trumplethinskin weighed in for the 9th time:

Donald J. Trump‏Verified account @realDonaldTrump
Despite major outside money, FAKE media support and eleven Republican candidates, BIG "R" win with runoff in Georgia. Glad to be of help!

I see Trump has gotten used to referring to the person with the second-highest number of votes as having won.

Why did Democrats waste 8.3 million dollars trying to keep a woman (or "HOR" <sic> as ypu call them) out of the House of representatives?

Ossof didn't win?

Obama's Organizing for Action.

Uygur's Justice Democrats.

Why didn't they ensure Ossof's victory?
