I didn't vote. I just keep checking back to see them all. :)

ETA: Voted on what I can. I have lots of reading to do on the rest. I'm thrilled that some of the people I nominated (ahem, Imp) made it to the voting. :D

Congratulations to the nominees -wowsers, lots and lots of AHer's feature! Yay us!

And can I do my own little, very surprised, happy dance here? I can't believe it but my "Once more through the Open door" is in the Celebrities category! :nana:

Oh this is so not fair...

The NonHuman category is categorically evil... how can I CHOOSE?!?!?

Myth Perceptions 01 / the_bigbadw0lf
Threlan's Gift / Sexxy Vixen
Vampire Seduction Ch. 02 / wishfulthinking
Will / BlackShanglan

You have GOT to be kidding me!??

I wish election day was this difficult, with this many amazing choices!!

Goodness, I feel the same way...
and how can I possibly not vote for Doc's Leaves?!?

This feels like being nominated for an oscar against Jack Nicholson

Ok, a serious question. I'm confuzzled.

First of all: Whee! Congratiulations to all the nominees. :) (what as the non-serious part. You all done good. Celebrate!)

Second of all: First category I looked at happened to be Sci-fi and Fantasy, and it looks like this...

---
A Knight in King Arthur's Court Ch. 11 / brightlyiburn
Daemon & Sunny Ch. 08 / ladyofthemasque
Genie Chronicles Ch. 24 / Joe Brolly
The Solitary Arrow Ch. 22 / mack_the_knife
The Sorcerer's Bride / cymry
---

Now... does it strike anyone else as odd that single chapters in the middle of long stories (or novels, even) is competing against self-contained short stories like that?

Not sure I'm gonna vote because of that... I don't have a bias towards one or the other, and they all contain good writing... but how could I compare them?

If I only read what is linked, cymry wins hands down, because I'm thrown right into the middle of the others, expecting to know characters and situations that I have no idea what they are. If I am to appreciate the greatness of, for instance "Genie Chronicles Ch. 24" it seems I have to read Ch. 1 thru 23 first. And any subsequent chapters too?

Seems to me a competition like this should treat one story like one story, regardless of if it's posted as separate chapter submissions or as one entry.

I'm not sure there is much you can do abou tit Liar. The method for selecting year ends is to select the highest rated montly qualifiers. If you're doing a popular story, chapeter by chapter, you may find yourself nominated for what you don't even consider a particularly good chapter.

I would guess it's a judgement call on the voter's part, wherther or not he will read the whole story and judge the chapter that way or if he will read the specific hapter and vote, reguardless of the rest of the work.

Well, I don't have any pretense to change how it's done now. But maybe to see if I'm not the only one who are unsure how to treat a chapter versus a standalone story. If there's more than me, maybe I could suggest a change in routine for next year. Maybe separate diciplines for them, or something?

And you know, you can end up being nominated for what you don't consider a particularly good standalone story too. The audience has weird taste sometimes. :)

Well I can tell you that on the cats where I read all of the entries, I do not read previous chapters, and if the chapter that was nominated doesn't make sense to me because of that, I'm not likely to vote for it. So, you're right that it's not particularly fair to have them grouped together. But at the same time, there are obviously going to be alot of fans for stories that had so many chapters, so it might even out in the end.

Congratulations to all the AHers! Woohoo! :nana:

Checked them out. Voted for a couple even.

I'll confess to being a little disappointed. Hypothesis is all right, but The Gift is a much better story, I think.

But I'd be prejudiced. ;)

I think it would be worth mentioning to Laurel. Perhaps a special category for an ongoing story with the nominees coming from any cat where a chapter of a story got the monthly nod??

I'm glad I saw this post. I somehow missed my nomination when I read through it, lol. I know which one I'm voting for (and no, I'm not voting for myself. :p )

Congrats to everyone nominated.... happy dance for all :nana: :nana:

You could have knocked me down when I opened BDSM and found my "Out of the Night" Story in the list........ :nana:

No one of any sense will fail to. It will be a consummate honor to lose to it.

I only pray that in the two categories I've got stories in, the really superb works that are also running take the prize (if I don't - I suppose vanity will have its little hopes). Once or twice I've seen some real clangers take awards, and it would be a source of considerable chagrin to me to see that happen when such remarkable stories are up there. Huzzah for great writing, and may it triumph!
