My mother lives near Ft Riley. She has 'adopted' two or three soldiers to share xmas dinner with us. Other than feeling bad for the poor soldiers who will be subjected to my family... it'll be kinda weird to have complete strangers sharing a meal with us.

So... treat them like guests? Or like members of the family? Best behavior or normal family strangeness?

Just to give you some idea of what these poor people will be going through, I think this Xmas there will be 35 of us at mom's house.

*bump*

becuase, even if it's a top 5 idiotic post, i still wanna know how to deal with my family AND the people none of us have met...

Personally

I would act just like I always do and let whoever else worry about it. I am the basic outcast from my family anyway, so they expect me to act the same no matter what. Hope that was somewhat helpful.:) Just be yourself.:) Later.

Keep it real, be yourself and bring on the family strangeness.
They may appreciate it more????

you probably wont ever see these people again ... so who cares what they think of you ... good or bad ... be yourself and have fun

As one who has benefitted from this program, I would say that do what feels most comfortable to you. The soldiers are, in fact, guests. However, the people who invited me to dinner treated me like a long-lost cousin and that just felt right to me.

Guess who's coming to dinner?

Be yourselves.
They will (hopefully..probably) be grateful.
They have 'family strangeness'es too, just ask them.
Relish your Mom's hospitality.

Be yourself. I too was in the service, and had the chance to have Thanksgiving at a persons home. It was an enjoyable time, and definitely better than eating a semi-synthetic soy based meat source at the mess hall!;)
