Romantic spankings? I could see erotic spankings, sure, since spankings have been a huge part of sexual play for me, but romantic?

Romantic spankings are done by someone you love very much and trust not to go to the extreme. An erotic spanking can be done by anyone for the thrill. I guess it's like having sex in that for me it's more of a oneness with the other person if I'm in love with him, like a soul-bonding rather than just the physical aspect of it.

Try thinking that just as people are individuals so sex is an individual act.

When two people involved in a Sub Dom relationship, there has to be a greater degree of trust between the parties than is necessarry in a straight (missionary position) vanilla sex act.

I know that my partner not only loves me but she also trusts me implicitly not to take her beyond where she wants to go. She trusts and knows that the moment she uses the safe word, regardless of my state of arousal everything will stop.

By my definition our relationship is every bit as loving and romantic as anyone elses.

I think any discussion about the erotic aspects of spanking has to include the "guilt factor" (for lack of a better phrase).

No doubt, a lot of people grow up with the notion that sex is naughty or bad. Bed behavior results in punishment. In this context a mild spanking by a partner allows for guilt free sex after the "punishment".

I'm sure there are additional motivations out there too. It doesn't take an extensive search to find a whole sub-genre of erotic spanking stories, pics, and personal confessions.

I found the idea of erotic spanking interesting. I combined it in my story with exhibitionist tendencies. The result was kind of fun.

The posts above from Tiggs have provided me with a mental image to play with in the future. I'm sure it will appear in some future story.

I think Axeltheswede has hit the nail on the head.

According to my partner, when we are doing the Dom / Sub bit she feels totally absolved. When she is tied, or in some position of coercion she is not responsible.

She can cum like a tap while doing things that would be taboo in the regular way. Without any element of guilt. As she puts it, there are no disaproving voices ringing in her head.

Maybe I haven't got so far in a (romatic) relationship to allow enough trust to make spanking romatic. At the moment for me it stays a (nice) purely erotic thing in simply sexual relationships. But I guess I slowly get the point and in the future will be able to widen my horizon.
