Given the rash of spammers the last few weeks leads me to the question: besides removing the threads is there anything else to be done about these imbeciles? I know the guidelines state that if a poster continues to break the no spam guideline his or her isp will be contacted but given I don't know much about computer technology, I don't understand how that would be an effective measure. On the surface, it seems to me the shitheads just make up an alt and continue on.

Note: the above post is in no way a criticism of the mods or site owners as I reckon they have a enough on their plates as it is. It's more a question of curiosity.

I believe that if a spammer makes repeated alts then their IP address can be blocked. Don't quote me though.

i know i've seen IP blocking employed on sites that also use vbulletin (the forum software). i'm quite sure that neither laurel nor manu want to deal with the headache if they don't have to. :>

The reality of the threat is to that persons IP provider can trace the one person or at least the house/apartment that had the account.

If you are giving the IP host a bad name, they can come after you for your "miss-usage" of their contracted services, and they can suspend or terminate your usage.

It wary rarely actually happens, but that's the threat.

What they said. The worst part, spammers wouldn't be around if it didn't work.
