If we start a petition, maybe the moderators might be prompted into doing something about the annoying spam threads that are becoming more and more frequent on this otherwise wonderful forum...

please post a message to this thread, doesn't matter what it is....so long as you sign up to the cause

if you find the thread is down on some mad numbered page, you should bump it also...

so here we go...My name is Paul and i agree we should get these assholes outta the forum!

I agree Paul! Let's get them out as soon as they post.
But here's a thought, if it bothers you that much, and the volunteer mods are busy, and or, overwhelmed, maybe you should volunteer to be a mod yourself. This way, you can be a part of the solution. :D

*volunteers to be a mod*

I agree, these SPAM THREADS are a pain in the ass and are spoiling this lovely home away from home that we call LIT.

The problem is how do you stop it.

1) Ban the thread starter? he/she will just sign up with a new user name

2)Prevent and block all hyperlinks and img posts from threads. wont work as a lot of people use photobucket and other sites to host their own amateur pics.

3) The only solution is for anyone who spots a spam post to report it to the mods and not post a reply.

I think that it must be one or two people who are starting these spam threads, cause there has been very few in the past, but lately there are a lot.

SPAM SUCKS!!!

Just ignore them. Simple.

True, but it is so annoying to open a thread thinking it is a new amateur one only to find out it is spam.

we need to be able to ban the IP of the thread starter

Banning the IP probably wouldn't work, it's all to easy for people to use proxies to get around those sort of rules. The simple answer would be to delete the threads as soon as they appear. Alternatively, every thread submitted by a user with under a certain amount of posts would have to be authorised by a mod.

Well there is another solution that i can think of.

But that would involve a lot of work on the part of the Mods.

What could happen is each time you try and create a new thread, it doesnt appear until such time as a mod has "signed it off" and approved it.

The only problem with doing that is that it might cause a lot of new members not to bother to start up at all and find another forum to post on.

So yeah, Spam sucks and shouldnt be on LIT, but stopping it wont be easy

banning ip's only work if they arnt on dail up mind you most ppl arnt these days i say just keep reporting them and not even looking most you can tell from the name what they are

Double Bump!

And a suggestion - how about not allowing people to post at all until they have reached a minimum amount of posts? It would be annoying for the genuine first-time posters, but it might cut out a whole bunch of the spammers.

I hate spammers. I hate them so much.

Exactly ....
Its the people who keep replying and bumping
the spam threads back to the top all night long ,
night after night . Which in most cases are the
new folks who wouldnt know spam threads.
Yet they chase them around the boards like
a fat kid needing another cupcake .

In most cases , they'll die off in a few minutes ...
not the new folks but the spam threads ..

my 2 cents ...
