Hi All,

I'm setting up a campout in Rome, GA during the days of Oct 17-21st. It's open to everyone. Just bring your own tents, sleeping gear, food and water. Cliffs will be climbed if available in the area. THe pitons and rope is furnished for any climb. The next camp out will be in Tallageda National Forest in Nov. for the fall foilage.
The creeks of Rome offer excellent fishing, panning for gold, swimming and bird watching. RSVP please for Rome and Talladega.
I just feel it's time the Southeast peeps meet.

Thanks,

LDW

I want to give an update to those who sent emails asking about the campout. Hopefully I'll be able to answer all of your questions.

Rome GA is located in the Northwestern part of the state. It's about a 20 minute ride from the Alabama state line.

I'm bringing an extra tent that will sleep 4 if anyone wishes to use it. So if you don't have a tent and wish to attend let me know. I'll loan you the tent for the trip. I'll be sleeping in a backpackers tent for one.

This is a family oriented event. There will be marshmallow roast and whatever you wish by the campfires. This is for friends meeting friends. One family has confirmed and it shall be family oriented.

The campground is not known at this time. The city tourism office is helping me find a campground that fits our needs and will let me know within the week.

Yes, there is gold mining in Ga. It is called placer gold and runs from 22 to 23 karat. You're not going to get rich, but you'll have a few flakes to take home in a vial. It's going to be panning like the old miners. This is part of the gold belt that ran from VA to AL in the late 1800's to early 1900's. If you find a nugget, it's yours to keep.

Fishing is allowed. But you must have a license. Bass, perch and other species are available. I'm bringing a hikers fly rod.

There are many hotels available if you do not wish to camp and just spend the days and evenings with friends. I am working on a discount for the group if anyone is interested. Please send me a message if you're interested in that option instead of camping. It'll give me more of a sure number to offer to the hotels and get a discount.

I hope I've answered all the questions. If not, please message me. The dates for the trip are Oct. 17-21. There will be peeps from other networks joining us so it's a good time to meet everyone and have a good family outing.

Thanks,

LDW

You're more than welcome to join the campout Brinnie. I'm driving up from south Alabama so depending on where in FL you live we'll probably take the same length of time.
Right now we've got 3 individuals and one family of 4 attending, so it's starting to grow. My yahoo contact info is on my profile or pm me with any questions or comments.
We all look forward to having a good fall foilage outing with cookouts and the works.

Just bumping this thread for you cause I'm excited about our gathering up here in Milwaukee, so I thought you might be excited about yours too!

For Everyone Attending the Southeast Campout here's the info:

The site is the Lock and Dam marina in Rome, GA. Canoe rentals are available, tent pads are available for tenters. Fishing is allowed, with proper trout stamps and license. The Chatahochee, forgive spelling, National Forest is a few miles north and hiking and climbing will take place there. Bring a camera, this is a beautiful time of fall foilage.

You'll be able to drive up to your campsite. So bring a day pack for hiking. We'll always be back to the basecamp in the evening. No need to bring a large pack. Just load it into the car and unload it at your site.

There is a camp store at the site. So food and water is available. So is hot showers and bathrooms.

Message with any other questions. I'll scan the map to the campground and send it out.

Thanks,

LDW
